30 Facts You Didn't Know About Top Gun: Maverick

I don't know about you guys, but I definitely didn't see Top Gun: Maverick as being the highest grossing film so far of 2022 and potentially the best as well! And for that reason I figured I had to make a video on the sequel 36 years in the making.
Hope you enjoy and don't forget to leave me a like and subscribe for more, have a good one people!

    • They said the same about a top gun sequel. Depending on when it come out, it rooster could be old enough to be respectable instructor. Hangman could be great for any role he gets. They could use the f 35, who knows. They just need a different, amazing mission. Probably some sort of rescue mission or a new war. It would be difficult to match top gun maverick. With the crap movies these days, I’d look forward to it.

So the f35 could attempt a bombing mission, then get swarmed by hidden enemy planes on the ground, without enough missiles to take them down. Or not see enemy stealth fighters and get in a dog fight that way. I’m sure a great director can come up with better ideas then me.

  • I was in AirForce pilot training when the original was released. It stayed in the base theater for at least 6 months and served as inspiration for every test I had to take! As sequels go its hard to find a sequel better than TG Maverick. Tom Cruise was right in waiting, AND delaying the release until after theaters opened up after the pandemic shutdown. Although Cruise truly understands the value of story over just ringing up easy cash, I truly can't imagine a 3rd installment. I think it's better to end at the pinnacle of accomplishment.

  • You managed to get the very first fact wrong. Everyone got to choose their own callsigns EXCEPT for Hangman since they re-wrote his character for his callsign to become part of a sub-plot in the movie. During an interview, Jay Ellis said the cast went drinking at the Officer's club at the real TOPGUN school in Fallon, NV. Lewis Pullman had his cell phone on the bar, and Jay Ellis called him out to the bartender who then told Lewis that he had to buy a round for the bar. Lewis was embarrassed, but paid the tab, but then Jay Ellis felt bad and paid him back the next day...hence his callsign, "Payback". Monica Barbaro got so drunk that night they thought she might have had alcohol poisoning and said she basically spent the night on the bathroom of her hotel room. Everyone said she arrived downstairs the next morning like nothing that happened and someone mentioned she "arose like a Phoenix"...hence her callsign...which honestly, no offence, makes your #4 fact sound really made up. Like you just watched the movie and put 2 and 2 together? Otherwise, it was a pretty entertaining list.

I'm old enough to remember the first Topgun movie. I knew a guy (A second class) when I was in the Navy who was onboard the USS Nimitz when they filmed scenes there; he said Tom Cruise was not a personable kind of actor. The soundtrack for that movie was one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard EVER.Today I live some distance away from the bar "Kansas City Barbeque," but I still go there: and yes, the barbeque is that good! When I lived only five blocks away from the bar many years ago while working at the shipyard, I never knew it because of working all the time. One year I was going to Seaport Village for the first time and walked right by it! I go now once a year or so, and watch the movie every 10 years or so also. Kelly McGillis not being in the second from what I know just makes sense. By the way, yes we do have that craft, (not specifically that exact plane model, but yes nontheless), and yes the location imagery for the target was accurate. Chech Iran sites on Google Maps for a a rectangular box in a bleached out area of Irannear the Caspean Sea. Its there. The coordinates though were fake. I forgot to mention that the mission they practiced is the intended strike plan by Israeli Forces with the help of U.S.Forces. "Operation God's Wrath."

  • The comment about the darkstar is true to an extent on the speed. We actually have technology now that is pushing that envelope. As a matter of fact in 1967 the X-15 which was classified as a fighter jet reached 4,520 mph ATG. That means that 56 years ago we were only about 3,000 mph away from Mach 10. There is no set speed for Mach as altitude, pressure and other factors affect it. Mach is the point that the speed of sound is broken at those particular factors. The average is about 700 mph.

  • What *everyone* talks about: - The SR-72 "Darkstar" is only a mock-up prop for the movie and cannot fly, practical effects were used to have the jet fly over Mojave Desert up to the skies. Reaching Mach 10 isn't impossible for in the 1960's, the North American "X-15" hypersonic aircraft can reach up to Mach 6.7 and rumors speculated that the SR-91"Aurora" was the second to achieve Mach 6 only in the 1980's and is completely hidden within the hangars of Area 51. What *nobody* ever talks about: - The final battle between Maverick's stolen F-14 Tomcat and the Rogue Nation's SU-57 Felon's are all practical effects and CGI. Meaning the enemy fighter jets were only digital models while the Tomcat was a real jet being propped inside a hangar with green screens surrounding it for practical effects.

  • 12:20 Wait, you say they could only do one take, but the BTS shot is very different from the one in the film - none of the actors nor the car is there, so this is clearly a different shot. Of course, I also don't see the roof lifting off in the BTS one, so perhaps this is a practise run and the one they filmed was lower and thus was strong enough to lift the roof and "destroy the set" as they put it.
