Gretzky isn't called 'The Great One' for nothing. Throughout his 20 year NHL career, Gretz broke 61 records, 58 that he still holds to this day. Absolutely insane.

  • Imagine Gretzky with todays technology, todays development and todays non hitting barely fighting league? I could only imagine how well he would do. He would still dominate.

    • Gretzky quite literally shaped how everyone plays hockey to this day. Its the kids who understand that every player is a modern day gretzky it just takes a lot more work and confidence in your game to stand out. McDavid is the prime example of standing out, I think McDavid is on par with Gretzky it is just harder to score on goalies in the modern day. How goalies played was very questionable until atleast the mid 90s imo.

    • You realize Gretzky barely ever got hit and never got in fights right???

    • There was a reason, Dave Semenko, Dave Hunter, Marty McSorely, etc. You touch Gretzky you paid a heavy price. @@seanhart9706

    • @@janzkee Why is it harder to score today? Didn't the players get better as the goalies got better? Players actually score at basically the same rate today as they did back then. There are just fewer goals because of the fewer number of powerplays today. Look at the powerplay goal percentage over the last few years, pretty much identical to the second half of the 80's. If we had 2-4 more powerplays in today's game, we would see scoring rise to 80's levels. Just like back then, today's goalies wouldn't be able to do anything to stop it.

  • One of my favorite records is #39, longest point streak from start of season, because he averaged an even 3 points a game over those 51 games. Obscene.

    @HughJorgan1@HughJorgan1Ай бұрын
    • That streak will.never be broken Mario got to 46. Wayne had 153 then got injured

  • I hate when people argue that the game was so much more relaxed in the ‘70s and ‘80s, so of course he dominated the game. Then I ask why don’t more players from that era have almost 3,000 regular season points like Gretz? The man knew the ins and outs of the game and ruled it.

    • Right? The game wasn't easier back then lol it was a bit different however. If Gretzky was starting today he would still end up the greatest

    • i gotta ride shohei on this one, gretzky was an amazing athlete but otani in 2020 was the best hitter and pitcher in baseball by a lot which is essentially him being the best forward as well as the best defender in hockey at the same time. to put on perspective, he wouldve won the mvp of the season if he was only a fielder or a pitcher seperatly but he did both which is just crazy. feel free to debate it tho im open to it.

  • I think you might have missed one (there were a lot of numbers in this video :D ): Longest home point streak to start a season (40 in 88-89 when he had a point in every home game for the Kings). I only know this one because MacKinnon has a shot at tying or beating it this season (He has a point in all 35 home games thus far)

  • Mario was a much better player! and if he played with the talent around Gretzky had early in his career, he would be the great one. La Magnifique fits Mario, cause he just made defenceman & Goalies look silly.

    @rob16727@rob16727Ай бұрын
    • Mario played with much better talent than people think he did. When you have to use the word "if", your case may not be very strong. Mario would never have scored as many points as Wayne if Mario played for those Oilers. The Oilers didn't get a lot of powerplays and the only way Mario could score big was because of the number of powerplays the Pens got. Mario had a limit to his scoring that Wayne didn't have.

      @dannycarlow8204@dannycarlow8204Ай бұрын
    • 🤣 Mario had more Hall of Famers playing with him than Gretzky did in Edmonton. Just because you repeat something you heard others say doesn't make it true. The year Gretz scored 92 goals, his wingers were Dave Lumley and Dave Semenko.
