Well the pm and npc models aren't going to change but there will always be mods for those, and the weapon models with definitely change seeing as they are ripped straight from rust lol
With the current way things are its really easy to change models to your liking and the weapons are placeholders from rust.

i’ve never noticed how important the thump sounds were when you were killed and your body hits the floor in gmod, until i saw how completely silent s&box was, it feels so off
S&Box looks good but we are just used to Gmod with Source/HL2 looks so we like Gmod more but I think S&Box can achieve great things such as VR with Source 2. I still like the good old Source look though

@@kaijuhunter_02VOD it works, but it performs pretty poorly on larger maps + a lot of features and interactions feel a but clunky. Still nice to have that mod though. But i think the new engine has a lot of potential. Looks, performance and features for native vr support.
Gonna differ from the hivemind of commenters saying Gmod is better (don’t worry, I have well over 7000 hours on it, I love the game) and say that I’m hopeful for what s&box will have to offer, especially with Gmod’s amazing modding community.

S&box is pretty good for a game that is yet to release and probably won't until mid 2023 or later. Just hope people know that S&box is not a game that is finished and things can change in the process of it's development, and that Garry's Mod is basically a finished game.
On top of being finished gmod has a lot more comunnity suport and modding so S&box is gonna feel a bit barren at first
I'd say late 2023 or early 2024, s&box needs a lot of polishing and that could take a good bit. Performance is horrible and considering how well optimized default Source 2 is it's slightly worrying, then again Garry has never been good with optimization so I'm not sure why I'm surprised.
It's still odds me that they only allowed modders in and we still haven't seen much out of that decision

Original source has been going since the really early 2000s and its STILL being used daily. That's how good it is.
The Source engine released with Counter Strike: Source, Half Life: Source and Half Life 2 in 2004. So no, it hasn't been going since the "really early" 2000s. Still one fuck of a longlasting engine though.

S&box looks bad since it doesnt have valve assets to use (Except HLA), also S&box will be easier to code mods, so it will get ultra-realism animations, weapons ripped from other games, huds, etc... Very fast when it comes out.

@@nnikitov57 Since S&box uses a more flexible and modern engine, its easier to do things like realistic cubemaps, larger maps, HD models, procedural generation, algorithyms, Directx 12 features like Ray tracing, etc...
I'm excited for what S&box has to offer in the future with the source 2 upgrade. I just wish it and the tools wasn't so exclusive still. Garry's mod by itself is fun but it's biggest strength is its community mods. Sandbox needs those if they want to really be Gmod2. And it really feels like they need more people with the mod tools in there to behind growing its future workshop so when it does come whenever it may be it can hit the ground running with a nice list of ready mods.

Garry's Mod was only popular because of how early it was introduced to allow user generated content, as well as being easy to incorporate other loved games because it used source, so TF2. It's only continued to live on because competitors like Roblox were marketed towards children, and shit like secondLife was targeted towards fuckin' aliens or some shit. Now, nostalgia has wrapped around it like moss and weeds.

@@williscri yeah, you can google it, it's done by him and his studio "facepunch", which is why there's also things from Rust (yes garry's team also made rust) though i'm not sure if there are still assets from rust, i haven't kept up with s&box very closely in the last months, but if they wanted they could just put rust models since it's their own game
@@chelo8874 the current rust assets are temporary and will be removed once new ones are made they tell u not to use them because they will be removed before the game launches.

Imagine if s&box had an option to turn on hl2 props, entities etc and turn off the realistic graphics - and once it fully releases to the public, I really do hope many people will make these kinds of addons - and I'm pretty sure the version of source 2 that s&box uses allows garry to update the engine :)
Knowing S&Box ins't planed to be like GMod (yes it uses the base concept), S&Box is meant to be a devtool like Unity or UE, also S&Box's Source 2 fork is in heavy development, we need to wait some more time to make a more fair comparison. I think S&Box would really start moving when Garry swaps Rubikon with Jolt physics or something else, so it would break free from the _Valve time_ XD

@Freesmart gmod is one of the most popular sandbox games of all time and it's 18 years old. S&box is in beta and runs on the source2 engine (first official game made on source2 was Half Life Alyx in 2020)

S&box needs sounds, toolguns, and character models that's similar in tone to gmod but enhanced, updated and original. Well character models are but sounds of the tools are a huge part of gmod. (Just saying)

That's a bad idea The source assets are just half life 2 assets ans im not too sure how legal that is (dont quote me on this) Also I think they're very different engines judging from this video alone In the site itself it says that porting mods would require to rewrite code so I dont think thats possible Also Garry said that s&box wont be gmod 2 and he doesnt want it to be gmod 2
@@CloudyChair it would be just as legal as Garry's Mod afaik. If not Half-Life 2, Alyx models, if Valve allows for it. Judging from a few tutorials, porting things to Source 2 isn't that hard, S&Box still supports Lua as well. I get that he doesn't want a Garry's Mod 2, but Garry's Mod without the limitations of Source 1 would be a dream, why not take advantage of how well known Garry's Mod is? Otherwise it will take a miracle to surpass it.

In case people are concerned, sandbox is still in alpha/early beta. Sandbox is barely even complete, it's super buggy all around. I was able to get beta access and found that some game modes were super polished while others were bare bones. Keep that in mind as the game will likely not be released until very late next year.
