First PROBLEM With My 2023 Nissan FRONTIER Pro-4x *TIME TO TRADE?*
Is it time to think about trading in the Frontier for a Tacoma? After owning my 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4x for a little over a year we have the first fail on the truck. My Frontier has quite a few mods but I don't think this would have been caused by any of that. What do you think? #nissan #frontier #nissanfrontier #2024 #mods #2023

I had the same problem on my 2022 sv, I took it to the dealership and they resealed it. No fighting no questions from the dealership.
2017 Frontier 146,000 miles no leaks.
Too many 4x4 owners keep forgetting its a truck not an UBOAT!
Same thing happened to my 23 soon after I bought it. Took it to the dealership and was quickly taken care of. 14k miles later and no problems since
Yeah I'm thinking whoever or whatever is in charge of putting it together initially isn't set up properly
I just found your channel… Fellow Canadian here I’ve seen a few of these and it looks like they did a real crummy job when they were assembled… The dealership should look after it but The upgrade will be good also plus you get to choose the fluid you want to use in the rear end… I’ll look forward to seeing more of your videos
Nissan makes great trucks. I love my 2020 Titan pro-4x
I removed the tail pipe from my 2023 P4X. Remove the tail pipe back section first.. reinstall the frame bracket for future use someday, this way it does not get lost. Measure 3" out and mark for the cut from the weld at the muffler where pipe meets muffler. I used a sawzall. Straight cut down it cuts easily. Debur inside and outside of pipe, install the 12" down turn pipe.. push it on all the way and use a clamp to tighten it up. Dumps before axle and has plenty of room, and it has a decent tone when you get on it or rev engine. Also removes 10-11 lbs of weight. Walker 41809 Exhaust Pipe Spout 2.5" Inlet I.D. 20.00,, Heavy Duty 2.5 Inch Muffler Clamp 10.00 AMAZON.
Check your breather on your diff. Make sure it is flowing air. My relocation filter was starting to clog.
I'll check it out
happened to my 2020 pro-4x, put the black arb cover on, easy change
ARB diff cover #1. Super easy. The gasketing sealer is also easy to replace. I think I used the Permatex brand from Canadian Tire. 10 years on my Titan Pro-4x and no issues.
yea it a common issue. but an easy fix. from the factory the gasket used on the rear diff is terrible. i immediately changed my cover to a billet one with a dipstick and got it re-gasketed the right way and no leaks or issues.
I had mine overheat, only in 4X4 though. I suggest testing your 4X4, same with anyone else who has one of these. It was fixable at a dealer, but you don’t want it overheating when you actually need it. Like in a snowstorm or in backcountry
I recommend using a service like Rust Check to protect your truck. I use them here in Maine
I’m just wondering how much it’s actually leaking. My diff looks fairly similar and when I change fluid, I still get a good bit out, it’s definitely not low when I change it.
I got a 2012 sv I did a m226 axle swap and the first thing I did was get rid of that crappy diff cover and got the red arb cover and some gasket maker.
I remember watching a video on aftermarket diff covers not providing the proper fluid transfer or flow vs the OEM especially if your towing etc. May want to look into that just cause it says ARB doesnt make it better could be worse.
If you replace the diff, please post the part number and link to where to you ordered. A video of you replacing it would be awesome
I'll definitely do that
It only takes a few drops of oil weeping past a seal, spread out, and look like the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
I'll be doing the same thing soon. My cover is seeping but not that bad yet. Only have a bit over 12,000 miles on mine though. You going with the red or black cover?
I went with red. I figured if I don't like it it's easier to paint red to black than the other way around haha.
My rear diff cover is a little stained too but doesn’t drip, but mine is a first gen ‘04 and is 19 years older with the original gasket and until it drip’s, it’s staying. Renault could do a little better job. Considering a lot of my gen are hitting 500, 700 and 800k miles maintained it’s got a looooong way too go.
Pull the diff cover and re-seal with a ultra gray or black, ck venting tubes for diff housing and you will be good for awhile.
I had the same problem with 2014 tundra. I took it to 2 dealerships to have it repaired while the truck was under warranty and both refused to fix it. They said it's normal. One dealer tried to upsell me a brake job. The truck had only 43k miles on it when I decided to sell it.
Yeah most dealers are like that from what I heard. I figure do it myself instead of wasting time at the dealership
My 2013 Xterra is doing the same thing. Factory sealant is junk. Probably didn't wait for it to set up properly. Plan to use Lube Locker gasket and properly torque the fasteners. Didn't want to use the ARB cover. It weighs a ton and no real benefit beyond the looks. Also make sure your relief valve is operating as it should. It could cause wheel bearing seal leaks.
Yea I always trade in my truck when the diff cover weeps ,the trany or engine is next there all connected, the arb cover will fit late model trucks, looks grate on my 2022
Mine is ordered. Should be here soon.
I'm hoping you're kidding never know on the comments 😂
Not familiar with any brands, but Gale Banks video about diff covers
No gasket please, just sealed with ultra grey
Dana must skimp on the RTV with the diffs. I’ve owned two JK Wrangler’s and the covers leaked just like this well with in a year of owning them . I ended up upgrading the diff covers instead of fighting with the dealer.
That's my thoughts exactly. Not worth the headache
I was looking at buy a frontier. Before hand I looked at a ton of used ones just to see how they were holding up generally speaking of course. I have yet to see a used 22,23 frontier that didn’t have leaking axles, either around the diff cover or the tubes and pumpkin. Even saw a few leaking from the pinion seal. All the ones I looked at were less than 10k miles. Probably covered under warranty, but still made me pause on buying a new one.
Understandably so. Just for reference, my 23P4X currently had 24k miles on it. This is the first I’ve heard of the rear diff issue. I literally just checked my undercarriage yesterday after some offroading. Didnt see anything at the diff or axles, and I specifically checked the rear diff and sway bay for rock damage. No fluid.
@@KB-fy7gn Sweet action. Do your rear doors have any issues? That was another thing I noticed on about half of them, rear doors wouldn’t shut right. Of course the dealers all said they’d “fix” it if I bought it.
@@turtledunkknucklebaby8089 Initially, yes. It’s the weatherstrip for the door. They’re great at sound deadening, but when the truck was new the seals were also new, and nice and “plushy”. Just had to make sure to close them properly.
Had my 22 Frontier Pro-4X for 2 years now and over 40K miles and my diff has no leaks. Ot sure what’s going on with yours.
Wow what state are you in that corosion is bad.
My D41 2022 Frontier Pro-4x also has a wet rear diff cover. Dealership here in Utah does the videos in the online portal for review while they diagnose and do any maintenance. It was something along the lines of "Rear diff cover is wet, not dripping. Not a big deal." lol looks like I'm getting an ARB as well.
That's what I figured mine would do as well. Best off just to upgrade and forget it
@@CanadianCruisin Looking over their site (I'm somewhat layman when it comes to this sort of stuff), which cover would I get? Does the Frontier Pro-4x have a Dana axle of a particular model? There's about 30 covers to choose from it seems.
@DanielGloverTheGreat ours is a Dana 44. They come in red and black. Part Number: 0750008 for the red and 750008B for the black is what it shows on the Z1 Offroad website. It could be different straight from arb though.
@@CanadianCruisin you rule. Thanks for the tip!
Interesting. For years I bought nothing but Datsun trucks and really liked them. I lost a rear end on one with really low miles. It was the only trouble I ever had. When I say low miles it was like just out of coverage.
Other than the leak I've had no issues so far. Hopefully it's not a sign of things to come
This seems like a super simple fix...and at the same time - change the gear oil!
Nisssan has had diff issues with their trucks for decades and not fixed the problem. Why would they fix it now. Poor quality differential
Damn I’m gonna check mine, have 5,400 miles on mine, thanks for the heads up! You probably said earlier in video but how many miles are on yours?
I have 15k km whatever that works out to in miles lol. Not very much
@@CanadianCruisin 9,320 miles lol
@dethtopedophiles3870 yeah enough that is shouldn't be leaking yet haha
@@CanadianCruisin yeah no shit, definitely something you’ve brought to my attention. Gonna be keeping an eye out on mine now. Good luck and do an update video with the new cover please
My 2023 is not leaking with 32,000 miles. Pro-4x
I think that looks like a JK Dana 44. I wonder if you could use one of their iron differential covers.
I think the jk diff has a 8 bolt pattern instead of 12. It is still the Dana 44 though
Damn! That underside looks the same as my 2012 Pro-4X.
Left overs with a new body thrown on top lol
This has been an issue with the frontiers since 2005. Nissan's lack of quality control is beyond belief. They are still using the same defective axle and no fix to such an easy problem to address. My 2012 Pro4x had this issue and it was fixed under warranty with only 20k miles.
Should be a warranty fix.
I have the same issue with my 2022. Wet on both sides. It’s getting worse slowly.
My arb cover should be here tomorrow. I'll post it and let you know how it holds up
ARB diff cover!!! Was this a video just to show your wife that you need it?? 😂😂😂😂 Im going to put one on mine!!
The trick is you just don't tell her 😂
For the amount of money their asking for these trucks, you shouldn't have to go out and buy another diff cover, I get that you were going to change it anyway, but still. I'll stick with my 2016 4runner. Good luck with the new cover.
What do you think of the new 4runner?
Can't say I'm sold on it, I find it looks to much like the Tacoma. I always felt the 4runner had it's own identity which separated it from anything else out there. Maybe it might grow on me, but I still have a great sense of pride with my 5th Gen. As they say, there's something about owning a 4runner. Thanks for asking.
I thought this was why the rear differential breather kit was created.
I've got the breather kit but didn't seem to do much lol
Where are you getting the gasket?
its rtv sealant iirc
You can either use rtv sealant or lubelocker makes an actual gasket for it which is supposed to be a little better.
@@CanadianCruisin thats super interesting and a much better option imho. which one did you end up getting?
Clogged vent can cause pressure and eventually leaks
I upgraded the breather already
Seriously most enthusiasts change out rear differential because they know what they are putting the vehicle through factory is different then modified you have modified and factory can’t take the stress simple fix
So you are not going to have your vehicle fixed under warranty?
If it wasn't for youtube I'd probably get it fixed. But im able to show people and make more videos to help people out so I'd rather go that route.
How did you notice it if it wasn't dripping on the floor??? Sounds very suspect
You can easily see under the back of the truck with the lift. You don't even need to tilt your head
Where do you get the tail gate letters
I ordered them on etsy. Just search 3D lettering and there are a few options
Amazon
Ford does this brand new off the lot
Sure, good luck with yotota😂

Toyota has trans mission issues ! Dude all that corosion under a new truck is horrible , by the look of the corosion your gaskets are probably shot. 😮
Tfl busted a front diff on a taco🤣🤣
Why post a video and threaten that you are going to buy a Toyota ? Buy one and move on . Good luck....
Oh yeah, the equivalent in Toyota will only run you around $70,000.
@@markgobuffalo6490dude no kidding
Documenting issues is all well and good, but it beats me why you haven't gone to the dealership for a warranty repair to reseal it. The question would be, will it be a recurring problem, making a video then would make a bigger impact. I had mine, barely 3 months old. I'd be interested to know what the dealership says.
I was planning to upgrade to the arb cover anyways so might as well do it now instead of waiting
1st…I just read the title….watching now….lets buy a raptor. LFG
Nah
Raptor one day. Not yet lol
Didn’t know this was an issue. I’ll have to check it out when I get home
Bruh just get a new cover from Z1 and call it a day.
no big deal,
Oh no, a leak. Better buy a whole new car
Nissan will gladly fix the problem i’m pretty sure. Unless you have a shitty dealership. They charge Nissan. End of story Get it fixed
That isn't how it works exactly
Toyota has their problems.
It would take a lot for me to trade it in for a tacoma haha.
Click bait video, you can drive the truck for years like that.
Man your trucks undercarriage looks horrible for a year old
It's dirty. It's a truck lol
Never buy a useless pickup. You will only be dissappointed...
I tow a travel trailer with my frontier, does great , guys with tiny units need big trucks..
To me that's a design flaw. Under torque that sealer isn't doing its job you don't need to fail dramatically while on a trail ...my 2c.
Yeah it definitely shouldn't be leaking like that. I havent even done anything to crazy off road yet either
Aren't these Dana axles?
They are. Must be the leftovers for Nissan lol
