To me it wasn't sad and still isn't, I just played what I liked and it was so easy for me came naturally. Still love it over 10+ years later.

  • Why do we feel at most ourselves while listening to sad, melancholic music? There is no pretense in deep introspection, only brutal honesty. In a strange yet hallowed way, the clarity that comes from this pained interlude comforts us and clears our minds. Life is made of the things we've picked up along the way. Some belong and some don't, and when a sentiment crosses our path (as these melodies endlessly invoke), we immediately know which is which. The contrast reveals us to ourselves as we reach into the darkness and draw out light. It's an odd path to peace but one that is as old and sure as time itself.

  • To everyone who's studying/working with this music: Checklist: • A bottle of water, at least 1 liter. Your brain works better if it has enough water and drinking helps you to concentrate💧 • Your charger. You sometimes don't even notice that your device's battery is going down, so better have it plugged in all the time🔋 • Your headphones. You will be able to focus more with headphones, because it blocks background noises. Also, if it's a late night study session, you won't wake up anyone🎧 • a tea or coffee. Coffee keeps you awake, green or black tea can make you feel more awake as well.☕ • Your study/work stuff: your laptop/tablet/phone , a few pens, paper or whatever you need.⌨ •Anything else you could need, what about a heat pad, a blanket, a good lamp, your pet so you have a study buddy 🐈 Reminder : After an hour, you should stand up and walk a bit around. Better stop the music or put on different music for the break. Open your window, even if it's cold outside. Fresh air will make it better, trust me. You could also lay your head down on your desk for ten minutes and listen to a podcast. Or, if you have to read a book, listen to the audiobook of it. You can also listen to the audiobook while doing another thing, that's even better than listening to music while reading the book. I hope y'all had a good day, if not, that's okay too. Remember to take care of yourself and try to get some sleep tonight 😴🧸 I didn't write this but I wanna help others

  • I watched as the rain fell, the coffee warming my hands. My aching heart calmed down as I watched the beauty of this world, and for a moment forgot how ugly it had treated me. The soft music playing comforted me like a hug and I smiled closing my eyes as I brought the cup to my lips taking a sip. My books had been with me for a while but my mind wouldnt let me focus on them, but right now maybe because of the comfort I was feeling it brought me a sense of urge to start my studying. I grabbed the pen which was sitting next to my plate of cookies and I started to read, word after word, writing down notes after notes. After a while I had realised the pain had left and a feeling of accomplishment had replaced. I took a sip of my now refilled coffee cup and let a breath of relief. I was happy like this, this is who Im supposed to be and everything else was just a mere distraction, so I do what I do best, I push the distractions away and continue my warm rainy days.

  • She never understood how one could go from being so lovely and extroverted, to becoming a depressed introverted soul. Life became confusing. She couldn't tell the difference between reality and the voices in her head telling her everything she knew and loved was wrong. Her life wasn't messed up and nor did she have any psychological issues that she knew of. She had already entered puberty when she was thirteen and yet nothing had felt like this than it had before. Her life had never seemed so dull than ever, and yet no one had yet discovered or realised the fact that Arielle Davis no longer existed. Only the outer shell of Arielle Davis remained and yet no one dared to ask or care about what happened to the one who had inhabited that shell. One would think that just because she had always worn a beautiful smile upon her face she was happy. However, if you had looked closer, you'd have noticed the sad eyes that rested upon her happy face. You'd have noticed that her smile never reached her eyes, nor that she had become relatively quiet. It was almost as if she was waiting for someone to notice that she had stopped talking. That she was silently screaming to be heard. Yet the only trouble was, she had no idea why. Her once pure soul, tainted with an unbeknown-st feeling of loneliness and heartache. It gave her more feelings of loss and sadness that she didn't know she had. But what's more is that she lost more than her family and friends, she lost herself. It caused her to ask herself who she was as she questioned her identity as a human being, and as Arielle Davis. (arielle davis is not a real person, i literally went to name generator and got this.)

  • "Magnus Bane! Welcome!" The middle-aged Shadowhunter shook his hand, almost wringing it in his enthusiasm. Magnus grimaced at him, eyes drinking in every detail of the city he'd loved, left and returned to. The man was still staring at him with something akin to awe in his face. Magnus barely noticed. He was sweating, heart beating erratically despite everything. They walked in silence for a bit. Silence that was about to be broken by the Shadowhunter who had read about this man in his textbook. He had read all about the legends of the Dark War- Jace, Clary, Simon, Isabelle, Alec and Magnus from the time he was a child. It was on the tip of his tongue to ask him, 'You really did know all of them Sir? You really saw the Dark War unfold didn't you?' He checked the impulse and replaced the need to talk with different words, "We appreciate your invaluable assistance with the Southern wards Sir. I will be accompanying you and be your contact for all your monetary transactions with the Institute." He spoke all of this very fast, feeling unable to stop staring at Magnus outrightly. They walked till The Institute, the New York Shadowhunter Institute came into view- dreary as ever. Magnus sucked a short breath in. Alexander. This place had once seemed like their home. The halls had rung with the laughter of his children, their family. Were they really this imposing even then? Rafael. Isabelle. Clary. Jace. All of them had lived here. All of them were gone. He had lived here. Loved here. Mourned here. Mourned his husband. Mourned his son. He saw the marble steps leading to the seemingly imposing facade of the building. A monument had been built there, to commemorate the Dark War. To teach the next generation. Madzie had built it, impeccably. From the angle he was standing at it was almost painful, the degree to which she had captured Clary's stubborness, Isabelle's fire. Jace had always held his head that way, with arrogance on his face and nobility in his eyes. Simon, with his teeth bared, yet a warm expression on his face, as if he might be laughing at the face of danger. Alexander. His was the only statue Magnus had found lacking on the day of the unveiling, when the man had been next to him in person. Today, it seemed life like and solid in a way that his memories were slowly ceasing to be. He forgot that there was no sign of the little scar on his eyebrow in the stone, or the pronounced divot of his nose. He just looked at the determination, the nobility of the man who had changed him entirely. He drank the stance he stood in, mirroring his Parabatai as if their hearts still beat as one in battle. Magnus felt as if he wasn't real. His stomach swooped as all the memories assaulted him, as fresh as the scent of the grass he stood on today. " -I don't want them to say, 'Alec Lightwood fought in the Dark War' or even 'Alec Lightwood was Consul once.' I want them to think 'Alec Lightwood loved one man so much he changed the world for him.' Will you marry me?-" "- Rafael I'm so proud of you. Of course your Papa and I will attend. Do you even have to ask? He wouldn't want to miss this for the world" "Yes Simon, Izzy will love this ring." "It's okay Biscuit." "I'll look after our son, love. Let go, it's okay. I'll be fine." No, he wouldn't be fine. He wasn't ready. But he also wasn't cruel enough to tell it. "I can see Jace Magnus. I can feel him again. You promise me, Magnus? You promised me my heart's dearest wish once" The heart monitor that was beating weakly spiked all of a sudden. Anxiety. "Promise me Magnus. I want...I want you to live. To love again. I love you, alright? Al...Always" The heart monitor was still beeping. Sleep. He was just sleeping. The Institute Infirmary. A weak smile, a last smile, "Aku Cinta Kamu." "Papa I'm scared" "It's okay sweet-pea. It's okay. I'm here for you and Dad's waiting for you on the other side. I'm right here, ju...just like old times." "Magnus, look after Sasha and Simon for me will you?" "It's not okay Simon but you've to send her off. You've to go there in the front now. You've to tell the name of the departed." Simon stared back at him, utterly wrecked with desperate tears in his eyes, "Magnus I can't. How do you do this? My little girl...gone. Magnus please don't let them burn her. I want to see her once more. Please Magnus-" "Magnus-" "Magnus?" He tore his eyes away from the past. From the statue of the heroes of the Dark War. Six people standing shoulder to shoulder, responsible for the upliftment of Nephilim and Downworlders alike. The people loved them. Once. Hailed them for having brought peace back into the Shadow World. He saw himself, set in stone and standing next to Alexander. He knew he would see Rafael's name on the plaque next to it. Apart from these statues, only a box remained, of all his closest friends- of his family. And his treacherous memories of course. A nagging voice told him that the next time he set foot in New York, none of this would remain. The Institute. The life's work of so many mortals he had loved, and outlived. He took a deep breath, holding it in for a bit longer like memories behind his closed eyes. Like water in his fists. Like smoke amidst his fingers. Then he let it go, watching the wispy remains meld with the elements. Somewhere deep within himself he reached for the strength that had let him have all of this to lose in the first place. He opened his eyes and pasted a smile on his face, it was just a tiny bit easier than the previous smile. "Of course. Lead the way to the wards. I offer ironically priceless services..." Life went on. This was stuck in my head. It's from The Mortal Instruments. Thought I should share it. Maybe I'll include it as a snippet in the fanfiction I'm writing. Do tell me if you like it?

A friend and a foe It speaks to you from head to toe Wondering where I went wrong I held myself, An emotion so Strong Under The Night I danced to my content Nor with sadness nor with fright The beat of the howling torment Fragment of pieces A sweet nostalgia of kisses Fragment of time As all ends with a rhyme - DotN

  • *Alone in my study I sat, pen in hand, writing away at my quote strewn journal. Whilst the deeply dreaded afternoon heat heightened my melancholic mood. I missed the gray winter mornings, how my Trenchcoat, black & sweeping, would share with me it’s desirable warmth as I made my way to class, book in hand. Now those cold comforting days were no more, replaced instead by this filth we call humidity, or more commonly referred, summer. At least I could still write, confined within my room, aided by air conditioning, & this enticing string of classical pieces. Yes, I shall continue to write, in a vain attempt at distracting myself, for maybe then, perhaps, this much resented season shall pass without another word, & I will finally be able to enjoy the beauty of winter once more, to feel the aged fabric of my dearest Trenchcoat, to breath the cold white air, to read my books as I stroll to class. Perhaps soon. But for now, I’ll sit, alone in my study, pen in hand, writing away at my quote strewn journal. Whilst I dream of a better time in a better place, wasting away in the dreaded afternoon heat.* -𝙰 𝚍𝚎𝚎𝚙𝚕𝚢 𝚞𝚗𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚍 𝚂𝚕𝚢𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚒𝚗

  • And so it has begun. The endless turmoil of never being able to put words to paper; never being able to decipher the everchanging emotions and conflicting thoughts. Pen hit paper yet all that was left was but a splotch of ink. Anxiety came forth as fingernails were chewed down to stubs and bled profusely. A lone figure paced back and forth, pulling at hair strands that came loose one by one. Red coated the floors on which they paced, faint sounds of the squelching splashes echoing throughout the almost empty room. A knock was sounded at the front of a door in the corner and all the deranged being could do was flee. Glass was smashed when the door was finally opened the candles had long gone out yet the scent of death permeated the air. A harsh draft came through the window and in the corner of the room lay the body of the same being, bloody fingertips gripping a stained jagged glass embedded into their neck.

  • She smiles softly with a dark chuckle as she watches her eldest and dearest friend, the love of her life, throw back his head in a full-body laugh as he talks and jokes with her frequent tormentors, the same group he'd always come to her defense from. Her hands tighten into fists as she bites her lip, trying to hold back tears. The sound of paper crumpling spooks her a second before she relaxes her hands again and glances at the letter she'd come to show her friend: an invite to attend a mysterious college she'd never heard of nor applied to but had somehow gotten a scholarship to. She wanted her friend's opinion on the matter since they had always talked about going to University and getting an apartment together. His betrayal stings deep in her chest, to see him standing there still talking and laughing with those that had sought to make her life hell. In that instant, she's decided. She'll accept this odd invitation and she'll get over him. It might take her some length of time to forget and move past all the good they had however she's determined to harden her heart, to be more cautious with those she lets in, to do what is best for her before all others.

  • I'm pretty new to writing so this isn't very good.. But it's the prologue of my book, so anyone who may read this, enjoy! 😃😃 "They were back. She caught a glimpse of them from her desk and immediately dragged her chair to the large, dusty window. It had been days since their last appearance. Aryen fumbled with the catch and swung the window open, stopping it just before it hit her paint splattered wall. Leaning through, she wrapped her hands around the cracked wooden frame and waited. They drifted through the faraway trees surrounding her family home on all sides before finally stepping away from the cover of the forest. The dim evening sun caught on their pale dresses and hair, making them almost seem to glow. In the sunlight the mysterious creatures always reminded her of the beautiful northern elementals she'd read about in her father's books. She saw them in her dreams almost as often as when awake. For some reason, despite her efforts, they never set foot past the iron gate guarding her home. A chilly breeze whipped her own crimson hair about, howling in her ears. She ducked back through the window and hopped off of her chair, rushing out of her room and down the stairs in search of her mother. There she was, sat at the dining table, a pile of letters before her. One hand clutched a note and the other, the edge of the table. All thoughts of the faceless creatures fled her mind. She was never shaken, least of all by a piece of paper. "Mama? What's wrong?" she whispered. She did not answer, eyes rapidly skimming over the page, expression growing more and more worried. "Mama.." she tried again, approaching her. Finally she glanced up, drawing a surprised breath. She truly hadn't noticed. "Goodness, you startled me. What is it, Yen?" "I- Are you alright?" "Of course, sweet girl. I promise." She insisted. "Now tell me what has you coming down here in such a hurry." Aryen knew better than to keep asking. Her mother would be fine, as she always was. Whatever had her looking pale as a ghost, it was nothing she could help with at only six years old, she assured herself. "In that case.. They came back! Look, look." She pointed out the window to see dozens of them, gathered just beyond the black iron gates of the courtyard. They spun in slow circles, smooth, veil covered faces turned to the sky. Her mother looked through the tall windows as requested and gave Aryen a sad smile. She knew by now that she couldn't see them. Every time Aryen had tried to bring her mother outside to meet them, they would disappear in a puff of smoke and what could only be described as a ghastly wail. It made no sense. Her mother must think her insane.. If only she could see them. The whisperers. That is what she'd named them. They never spoke in words she could understand, only whispering into her mind in an ancient and very odd sounding language. In the nearly two years since she'd first seen them, the whisperers had never actually spoken. It made sense, she supposed, as they also did not have mouths. "That's lovely, Yen." That familiar look of concern was back, showing in her bunched brows. Someday, Aryen knew, she would see them. There would be no more confused looks and concern. She would understand "Go play outside with them.. I must get through these letters." And just like that, it was gone. She returned to the folded pages in front of her without another word. She sighed and trudged to the door, letting it fall closed with a soft click behind her. Her pace quickened as she reached the courtyard until she was dashing across the grass and through the gates. The whisperers turned their heads, floating over the grass to meet her. This close, the tall, faceless women appeared almost frayed at the edges as if they lived beyond reality. Flowers bloomed where their feet should be and the sun shone brighter when they left the cover of the trees. Aryen held her arms out as she reached them and took two of their hands. She was spun around in circles and led around the grass in a slow, sweeping dance. Their whispers echoed in her mind as they braided her hair, telling her stories she could not understand. She picked the colorful flowers they grew for her and they wove them into a crown, gathering around her as they always did to place it upon her head. Aryen sometimes wondered if she was secretly a queen of spirits, like in her fathers tales. She never saw the whisperers fawning over anything else, other than a stray cat that had wandered past one day. Just as she was about to ask, the sound of a carriage rattled down the stone path leading to her home, pulled by two horses. The driver was dressed head to toe in black, and she could just make out the ornately carved armor of the Templars beneath his cloak. The voices in her mind quieted in an instant. Each and every one of them stood, eyes only on him now. Aryen had the feeling that he was not welcome here. The carriage driver did not stare back at the dozens of faceless things, likely unable to see them just as her mother was. He only glanced at her as the carriage rolled past, scowling at her with her muddy dress and crown of flowers. She glared right back. The Templars were, indeed, very unwelcome. That never stopped them from appearing whenever they pleased, much like the whisperers. As the carriage pulled into the courtyard and stopped, the driver hopped from his seat and opened the door. Two others followed him to the steps of the manor, dressed in black as well. Her mother met them at the door, standing still as a statue. From here she couldn't hear them but knew whatever they were discussing was not pleasant. It never was. Perhaps one of the letters had been from them. It would explain her sour mood. Aryen hadn't realized she was staring until one of them looked right at her, waving his hand in her direction. The others stared too. Her cheeks burned red and around her the whisperers hissed. Dread twisted in her gut. Something was not right. Only minutes later they were gone and the whisperers were staring at her in a sullen silence. Like they knew something was coming, but also knew she could not understand them. They stood together as her mother stormed through the gates, reaching for her hand. For the first time in two years, they remained when her mother was near. Far above, clouds covered the fading sunlight. The world itself seemed to darken as anger washed over her. Not her own, but the whisperers. "Mama, what's happening?" she cried. "It's time for us to go home. Come inside, we are leaving tomorrow." She tugged her towards the gates. "No, wait! Mama, stop, please!" She pulled back but it was no use. The whisperers followed after her. No flowers grew under their feet now. Instead, grass rotted and flowers died. The moment her feet passed through the gate, the crown of flowers on her head blew away in the wind. One touched the black metal and let out a terrible scream, vanishing before her eyes. Droplets of rain fell as she was dragged back into the manor. Before she knew it she was in the dining room again, her mother angrily shuffling about in the kitchen. Papa knelt before her, a steaming cup of odd smelling tea in his hands. "Drink, child. Drink." She hesitantly took the cup from him and brought it to her lips, taking a sip. It tasted wonderful, like honey and fruit. Delighted, she kept drinking, taking sip after sip. She felt so warm and.. Tired. Aryen's knees were so weak, and her head was spinning. This couldn't be right. "Mama?" she whispered as the edges of her vision went black. The cup fell from her hands only to be caught by her father. Tears lined his eyes and spilled down his cheeks. "I'm so sorry, Yen." "What's.. happening.." she slurred. Aryen caught one last glimpse out the window before she collapsed into her father's arms, eyes drifting shut as she fell asleep. The whisperers were gone."

These are the words that linger at the back of her mind. The day moves slowly like a calculated stalker trailing each step of his next victim. The clouds are but thick fog hovering above, menacingly daunting- haunting. She sighs. She misses him. He, that's but a distant memory, a phantom, perilously haunting her sanity.". That's all I got. • the first song makes me wanna put on a brown hat and a dark brown overcoat as i venture out in the streets carrying my briefcase and umbrella while the rain pours down hard and i head to the investigation site for a huge robbery. hmm female sherlock holmes vibes. Edit: so i wrote it :) She woke up quite early. The soft chirping of the birds outside marked the beginning of dawn oustide the windows. It was densely dark and with the heavy clouds forming above, she knew it would be raining soon. Since it was winter, the bare trees looked as if they were forming an eerie potrait with their wretched branches extending out. Yawning, she headed over to the room where her comfort resided in and upon entering it, breathed the smell of the splayed out papers on the brown and yellow rug. The book stacked shelves decorated each wall and a huge bunch of unsolved files were bundled up at a certain corner giving a sense of mysterious ambiguity to the room. She pulled the hanging switch for the lamp which immediately illuminated the cold arcane room in a dim golden light. Heading over to the board which had faces of multiple different people plastered all across it, she took a marker and circled a certain house on Pitch Street. . The pins, acting as the pillars of the thread which were connecting the separately placed pictures, now overcrowded the board signalling the owner that the board had reached its capacity. "I need to buy a new board…", she hummed. She saw a flash of light outside the window which was soon followed by the harsh sound of thunder. It only took a few seconds before the heavy drops of water started brutally hitting the glass windows. She silently chuckled and nodded in agreement with the rain. "Seems like today would be something different". No sooner had those words left her lips than the black telephone on her messy desk began to ring. Smiling, she headed over to the desk and picked it up to hear the worried voice of her friend. "Holmes! I Need your help!" "As usual my friend, what is it?", she asked while staring at the ticking clock on the wall. It read 4:30 a.m. "Miss Carlson Dawn reported a huge robbery just a few minutes ago. She said that she hired specially trained guards and herself had placed unique security precautions near the ruby which only she could decrypt", Holmes nodded to herself as she stared at the map pinned on the board. "However, she woke up to her safe room busted open and the 100 year old ruby missing from its glass box", Watson's frantic voice made it clear to Holmes that she will be dealing with someone powerful. "Is this the same Miss Carlson who appeared on the telegraph for her discovery of old artifacts and jewels?", Holmes asked and upon hearing Watson's 'yes', she smirked. "Well then i'll be seeing you soon" "W-wait how? You don't know the place...." "Oh my dear old friend, when will you learn my tricks", she chuckled again as she imagined Watson's confused face. Putting the receiver down, she headed to a drawer beside the tall shelf which smelt of burnt birch wood. The beautiful carvings on the wooden drawer did give a majestic look to it, but that wasn't what Holmes focused upon. She tapped the corner of the drawer 3 times and heard a click come from the shelf. Heading over, she pulled a few books out and opened the secret encasing in the walls and then smirked, "got it". --- After tidying up for her venture collecting all the necessary files, she exited the room with her packed suitacse. Heading down the stairs, she went inside the empty kitchen and gulped down her coffee in one go. She regretted it. *"The taste couldn't be savored but oh well. I need it for my humane functioning"* She took her large brown trenchcoat and the deerstalker from her rack and grabbed the pair of gloves from the side table. Opening the ebony coated door, the welcoming scent of the earth hit her nose and the cool breeze caressed her skin. She took the peach umbrella from the side and left her house. Before heading down the streets, she checked her mail but fortunately they were empty. Moving ahead, holmes noticed there weren't many carriages or even the fellow people on the streets today. *Probably because of the heavy rain*, Holmes thought as she hugged the coat tighter to her chest. The wind was now stronger and the day, a bit more gloomy. She didn't particularly dislike this weather but it sometimes posed trouble. The pitter patter sounds of the rain falling on the umbrella and the steps through the wet footpath seemed comforting to Holmes. The brown buildings covering either sides of the roads looked wonderful. After all, England had its special beauty. The brownish yellow ombre color of the bricks felt royal and vinatge in every aspect, as if they were the residing flames of a burnt out candle which were speaking a secret tale. After treading a few more steps, she saw a standing carriage by a streetlamp. It was too early for a vacant carriage to be this close to her house and she did find this odd. She called out to the driver. "Where ya headed to, maam?", the driver asked. He was an old man. Maybe 50-60 years old? "Pitch street, Miss Carlson Dawn's house", she replied waiting for him to open thr door. She saw him hesitate his movement and then proceed to open it. Climbing in, she heard him say, "Ah! The famous earth digger's house? I heard she got robbed", he scoffed. Grabbing Holmes attention. "Well quite sad for her huh, she looked pretty ambitious", he said while grabbing the reins of the horse. "….really? I must disgaree with you, good sir. I feel that she deserved it", Holmes said as she pushed the hat on her head further, trying to cover her face. "Y-you do? Well good grace, I must say you have an excellent insight Maam", he said in a relieved voice, believing he found a person who shared his thinking. "Why do you say so? You just said it was quite unfortunate for her", she probed him further. "I-I mean it is. It is sn unfortunate accident since she had spent so much for it to be scurely covered but I don't think she was deserving of that founding, right? Her chief, Mr.Glowsfellow seemed much more capable in my regards", he said. Holmes raised her eyebrows, pondering about something and then slowly smiled. *We might have just gotten a hint, Watson.* Sorry for any errors and for the rushed ending. Also if you liked it, i have a tumblr @smilesofcry (its usually just anime reader :"( )

  • I love this playlist. Really helps with me think and write, So I wrote this (pls dont judge my writing) I sat near my window in my tiny apartment, pen in hand, gazing out to the waters of Venice on this peaceful autumn day. The bright sun that hid behind the buildings casted a faint red glow on my room as soft drizzle started and spread around a misty fog. The drops got bigger and the rain got stronger, drumming against my window. I set the fireplace and sat back down. The nice cold whether along with the drumming rain filled the room with a peaceful ambiance that calmed my soul. I grabbed some paper to write my story, one that reminds me most of what I am and I played some classical piano music to help. Many wouldn't understand this lifestyle. They'd think I am wasting my life in my room, accompanied by no one and surrounded by nothing but books and paper, writing poetry and learning history. In truth, I know, it may seem strange, how we spend most of our days writing and studying. But, in time, I hope you'll understand. We have strong passion for knowledge and classical writing. It makes us who we are. You could say it calms our soul. The peaceful cold autumn/winter mornings or the misty rainy days are best for our writing, and though I do not speak for all, I must, at least, let you know, that we love to write stories and poems and to study about history. It is who we are.

  • "𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝔼𝕟𝕕 𝕚𝕤 ℕ𝕚𝕘𝕙" “The end is nigh, my friends.” Her strong and confident voice poured out into the small crowd of 13. Quiet yet excited chatter immediately started as the group realized what this meant. It was everything we had been waiting for. Instead of engaging in the chatter, I stared out at our leader and met her steely gaze. Each time this happened, her grey eyes seemed to encourage some sort of perseverance within me. They stirred up a strength I never knew I had until we had met. She was only a year older than all of us, yet as she stood there, her long raven hair cascading down her shoulders, she seemed wiser beyond any of the professors at the academy. But something different happened this time. Normally our gaze ended with an agreement, something that we both recognized and then looked away at the same time. This time, she broke away and something I had never seen seemed to take place underneath her silver orbs. As she looked back out to the crowd, it seemed to disappear, being replaced by a cold and mirthless look. “I-- no, we have worked long and hard for this.” As soon as she spoke, the crowd seemed to hush, her voice captivating their attention wholly. “ The Academy has held dark secrets for many centuries, and tonight we reveal them.” A cheer and whoop were heard with some giggles afterward. The corner of her lips seemed to quirk up to a smile, but suddenly the act seemed to stop. Something was off with her, but I couldn’t tell what. We were what she called a coven of witches and warlocks. According to Old Law, warlocks were practically unheard of yet somehow she had managed to recruit a couple to join in this. At first, we were all hesitant to join when she found us. We were young and scrawny; vulnerable. Somehow, she still saw the potential each of us had and gave us an option and one way or another none of us were able to refuse it. “Meet at the Gallows later tonight, 1 am sharp.” I had zoned out to the bulk of her speech, but that had caught my attention as it had everyone else's. Nobody went to the Gallows. It was a restricted section, deemed by the Academy faculty and anyone that did go… well they never returned unscathed. Often the returnees could be heard screaming at night from relentless nightmares and eventually left the Academy. Everyone in the crowd held their breath. Did she really say that? “I know it is a lot to ask for, but we’ve accomplished so much in so little time. We are strong enough, we just have to believe in ourselves. I’ve already arranged a distraction so we don’t get caught. I understand if you don’t want to go, and you have every right not to but the more of us there are, the better chances we have.” She seemed to take a deep breath as her fingers fumbled with the sleeve of her coat. “I’ll go.” My voice slightly trembled, but I knew we had to be there for her. She had given us so much and it was only fair that we could give this back. “Count me in.” Another voice called out and suddenly she smiled as one by one, everyone agreed to go. “I’ll-” She suddenly hesitated. “I’ll see you later tonight. Good night my friends, may the moon watch over you.” All hesitation was suddenly gone and she stepped off the platform and disappeared back into the dark hallways of the Academy. I couldn’t help but feel a sinking feeling in my stomach as the rest of us filed out. Still, I was going to go. ~ She smiled from the shadows as her fellow students dispersed. Unknowingly, they had brought a light to her life and had shown her things that she would have never dreamt of. But it no longer mattered now. Averting her eyes, a hollow feeling in her chest seemed to rise as the memories of the vision lurked in her mind. The vision was short but to the point. Her body was not made for the power she carried. It was vast and magnificent, but it was also tearing her apart, day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute. Every day when she woke, she could feel herself succumbing to it. Her body was becoming weaker and she knew it wasn't long until she was gone. She was simply a vessel and tonight she would be delivering the power to them, her coven. Once she let go of herself, once she died, it would surge forth and go disperse itself into the coven. They would be able to do it. They would be able to do what she couldn't. She just had to die for it to happen. The end is nigh.

  • I went to music school and this reminds me of a room I found up in a tower of the building our performance hall was in. You had to open an old wood door with a skeleton keyhole on the top floor and go up a circular staircase to get to it. It had old, faded, water-stained greenish-blue paint, the ceiling was easily 20+ feet high, the floorboards creaked, the windows had warped single-paned glass in them. The room was heated by an old radiator, there was a movable wooden staircase that went up to one of the windows, and it was lit by a single bare lightbulb hanging by a wire from the ceiling. In the center of the room was the dusty console of a pipe organ, and the pipes sprung up the back wall. The room feels like nobody has set foot in it in decades. I brought my cello up there once at night and played Bach; the music played itself, I've never played so effortlessly. It was like a cellist much older than me was guiding my hands around the fingerboard. A student was murdered in the other tower in the 1960s, and there are rumors that she haunts the hall, playing an unseen organ at night and locking doors behind people. Realistically it's probably organ students coming up to the tower to practice, but there's some kind of magic in that room. I hope that the organ really is playing itself. I was in a whirlwind of a love affair then. They played the violin, and for the short time that that door was accidentally unlocked, we would sneak up there between rehearsals and play music. I would sit on the stairs under the window while they leaned against the organ and the Bach G minor violin sonata bounced off the walls and ceiling. Sometimes I would take out my cello and play the Bach suites... something about that room required music as confectionary as Bach's works for solo strings. That room ran a fine line between being unnerving and being welcoming. It was like it was possessed by a wild spirit of music who was madly in love with the magic of playing purely for oneself, mocking the beauty of the hall below and its 2,040 seats waiting for a critical audience to inhabit them. I've never played as well as I did in that room, my hands guided by that spirit, my sound echoed and amplified by the cavernous ceiling... my eyes locked with my love's. I was too much for them in the end: too unstable, too melancholy, too prone to believing the worst about myself. I still love them deeply, even though they're a different person than they were then. I'm a different person too. I hope they still love me. Every part of this story is true, by the way. Let me know if you know where I went to music school and I'll give you directions to the room. I'm putting this comment on a few DA playlists because I want to find a like-minded person at my old school to pass this secret onto... but they can't be just anyone.

  • I wish i had a childhood in a cottage, playing with bugs, running before butterflies, tripping over and falling to the grass and having mom and dad asking me how my day was everyday after school. I wish i had a bike, pedaling through the streets and entering libraries, borrowing books and reading all of them in like 2 days, talking to my pet cat just lying on my bed while listening to calm music. I wish i had a cool and gentle dad who loved me and took care of me, just like, you know, being there for me. I wish i could just put on boots and warm clothing and go out with my pet cat in the autumn walking through a forest. I wish i could sleep and dream my life was just like that and never wake up to the real life again

  • So I have this idea for a story but I'm not sure if I should start it or not. This is the only thing I have come up with so far: The rocky battlefield was stained crimson. Red was all I could see when I peeked out of the wooden box I was in, daring myself to know what had happened, even for an instant. The ground was littered with bodies, blood running out of them in pools, like the shining lakes my mother would take me to. They lay, their eyes wide open yet unseeing, unforgiving, silently chastising me for hiding like a frightened child in a box while they died for me. _But what was I to do?_ I wanted to scream, loud. I really was just a frightened child. I had immediately closed the lid after, my breath coming shaky, my small, young body shivering. The box we were in was filled to the brim with fruits, our bodies buried underneath to keep ourselves hidden. My fingers grasped the warmth of someone else's amidst the cold unforgiving skin of apples and oranges. I did not know whose hand I was grasping for comfort. I could only hear my terrified breathing, only see the darkness of the box. For a full night, I and the other child remained in that crate. I felt as though I was suffocating. I wished to be out of the box but I knew what would meet me out there would be far more unpleasant. Every so often we would hear the faintest sound of what seemed like steps outside of our box, a faraway voice barking orders. When I felt the impulsive urge to lift the lid of the box once more, I would force the hazy image of the red ground that sat right outside of our fruit box into my mind to suppress myself. So much red. So, instead, I would press my back on the wooden box and take deep breaths to calm myself. Not once did the child beside me question my constant movement or silent muffles. They gave me only what they could. The warmth of their fingers - the only comfort they could provide. - - - - - - I don’t remember much of what happened after that. All I remember is that the next morning the wooden lid of our hide-out had been opened, letting in sunlight our eyes were not accustomed to. It was both blinding and freeing. But I was not happy. I had barely suppressed a scream as I threw my small body - half-buried under fruit - closer to the other child. I don’t know what I expected to do. I could finally see them. The other one. He was a young boy, my age, with light brown hair and soft blue eyes, wide yet unwavering in the face of the man who was staring down at us. I forced myself to tear my gaze away and look at our savior - or killer - I had not decided yet. I remember now that General Camerido had had greying hair and stony eyes. He had a gold ring on his left finger and a long sword sheath at his waist. I noticed that when he pulled us out of the box and told us to walk beside him to where our boat was waiting. Santa Perfuga. The general had not in fact, come to kill us. If you can, lmk what you think I'd like to know if this has any potential before I start it because, I tend to hit a writer's block if I lose motivation ;-;
