U.S. Empire in Overdrive: They Can’t Win Wars But They Can’t Stop w/ Vijay Prashad

2024 ж. 23 Нау.
89 710 Рет қаралды

Vijay Prashad joins the show to discuss a new publication from the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research and Global South Insight. “Hyper-Imperialism: A Dangerous Decadent New Stage,” argues that the era of the U.S. Empire's total economic and political reign over the world order has entered a new stage; one marked by Western decline, emergent Global South nations, and a Global North that can only over-extend itself militarily to cling to power but has no vision to offer the world’s people. Vijay Prashad is the Executive Director of the Tricontinental Institute.

Best I know of currently is the One Small Town initiative, based on the principles of Ubuntu Contributionism. It's a way for people in a community to unite and share the wealth they all help create, not for the corporations at all, for the PEOPLE, for the planet!

      @70AD-user45@70AD-user45Ай бұрын
    • Easy to slam dunk on the Trudeau buffoon, but I guess that's still good to criticize the party in power. I would hope that Canadians aren't sleeping on the backwards, Israel supporting opposition party, PP and the Cons. That's the bigger political concern, is not that Trudeau is obviously bad, but that he's so bad people think "lesser of two evils" voting for Pierre and the Cons is some sort of answer. It is not. I don't even put much hope on Canadian politics, quite honestly. Federal vote not likely until late 2025, so lots can happen between now and then, including the US Presidential election. Time to really look at community building out of the structurally violent capitalist system. With One Small Town, this system change for the people, by the people is possible. Political movements can be galvanized better if the community is supporting each other in having their needs met. Brings both left and right together, actually. The voluntary and free contribution to One Small Town Co-Operative means we can do more for ourselves, but also demand better policy support from the political leaders.

For example, Burkina Faso is rapidly putting its state resources into massive infrastructure projects and strengthening its ability to defend itself against insurgents. They have quickly struck cooperation agreements to strengthen each other’s supply chains and build on the strengths of each partner. I get the sense that they know what they want tomorrow.

They need to provide political stability so commerce can thrived and bring in new FDIs. Belt and Road initiative is a good choice abeit not the only option out there. Money needs to be found to provide infrastructure investment and basic social services (health, education, public forum). Ruwanda is a good example to study, remarkable turnaround after the genocide.

  • *Eric Prince's (ex-Blackwater/Iraq) recent statements with regards to re-introducing colonialism, because, of course, he cares soooo much about black African lives, and corrupt African rulers...* The modern "prince" WILL find his tools: nothing in the current system will stop him. In fact the OPPOSITE is true, in that forces from within will even aid him in "fighting corruption," just like imperialists set out to "fight slavery" or the "primitive beliefs" (sic.) in Africa, 100 or 200 years ago. Why? Because just like 100 and 200 years ago, majorities were either too stupid to notice how they were being employed as tools, or too greedy to care. History will rhyme again, because it rhymed in the past, and it will rhyme in the future. _Consider well the seed that gave you birth: you were not made to live your lives as brutes, but to be followers of worth and knowledge._ (Dante's Inferno) Eric Prince *will* find the "brutes" he needs to "fight corruption" and millions will "not know" their ignorance, will avert eyes in complacency, will simply cheer in indifference... The subsequent "muddied waters" (strategy of power) will offer opportunities for systems of gain: the opportunists, the merchants of death, the robber barons, the freeriders...as if we have not seen this all happen before.

Africa was not an colony all its life time , the same thing for the rest of the word. History does not repeat itsef , it is just the prepertrators of this dark part of history are still with power , but they are losing it now , and are getting very desperate . They have shown what they want to do and that is for each country to develop without Western interference utilising their own natural resources. So of the moves they have carried out so far by removing mining licenses and nationalising some natural resources so they have a vision. But to achieve their goals they need to stop the western destabilistation campaigns using their paid and supported terrorists.

He has already presented a newly developed gold-processing plant (developed in Burkina Faso no less), it's an industry that makes sure more money stays in the country. He has also invited other African countries to process their gold there instead of selling it raw and cheaper to the West. He has also invested in the development of agriculture. So I would definitely not say that he doesn't know what he's doing.

In 2008 through its Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Canada is the first settlers colonial country to have begun a formal process of healing its past by acknowledging and apolgizing for the suffering inflicted on its indigenous people. This process is ongoing, and certainly for a long time. Canada's politics can be quite miserable in various ways, but this process called Truth and Reconciliation is a great hope for the future of the country. I ❤ Canada.

They even outright said they would give up Bin Laden if the US could prove he was responsible for 9-11, knowing full well it was the US who was behind 9-11. So they weren't being cooperative at all, they were very defiant. And they proved that was the right strategy because it only took 2 years of compradore corruption after that defeat, for the Taliban to re-launch a serious resistance in 2003 that would eventually succeed in 2021.

  • The reason the US didn't send Blinken to Yemen, is that the Houthis had just used force to take over Yemen from its legitimate government, a war that caused over 377,000 civilian casualties. The Houthis showed they are willing to use force to achieve their objectives regardless of the cost. In this case, they were willing to used missiles and drones against any ship that was passing thru the Red Sea in spite of international laws the prohibit such actions. Yet, for some reason, the speakers think that it is the USA that is the villain because it wants to uphold international law by using force.

  • Questions for Vijay, Rania, Eugene (and for us all) - Is anybody with competence to look at these things setting out to model the economic, social and political dimensions and timelines for: (a) Devising and implementing a process for calculating reparations debt based on a range of factors including long term historical through to the most recent contemporary offences, and the identification of extant culpable parties that may be states, corporate bodies and individuals ('tracing the poisoned fruit' so to speak)? (b) Conceptualising political processes at the community and state level through to regional and global levels for legislating and declaring reparations debt on culpable states, corporate bodies and individuals? (c) Devising a framework for classifying odious or toxic debt owed by sovereign nation states, corporate bodies or individuals to financial institutions whether sovereign states, national or international or private lenders? (d) Conceptualising political processes at the community and state level through to regional and global levels to legislate for and repudiate odious or toxic debt either by negotiation or unilaterally? (e) Marrying up (coordinating) the declaration of Reparations debt with the repudiation of odious toxic debt, implemented either on a piecemeal basis by individual states or groups of states, or in a fully concerted act of regional or global alliances? (f) Identifying the military and security conditions required to safeguard communities, nation states and regional alliances in the eventuality of declarations of Reparations debt coordinated with repudiation of odious toxic debt? (g) Formulating arrangements, agreements, treaties and pacts required to achieve military and security conditions to safeguard communities and nation states in the eventuality of coordinated declarations of Reparations debt with repudiation of odious toxic debt? Perhaps this kind of comprehensive study and planning is needed as part of the 'staging' for dismantling Western imperialist hegemony, dismissing unipolarity, establishing multipolar (or multi-nodal or polycentric) systems of global interaction, that seem to be the main items on the practical agenda.

  • historically - when the money lenders caused a debt crisis, in way or another, the debts would be partially or fully canceled and or the lenders and associated groups would be exiled … We have a situation today where the debt burden is enormous, and has added tremendous friction in the economy. Further, the lenders have captured key aspects of the government. This situation is not feasible nor tolerable for the majority of people. Yet politicians are unwilling to take on the debt challenge aside from calling for austerity … 😕

  • Though I am not a frequent viewer, I am disappointed that in such "a very latest update" - either the Hosts have not been keeping track on the latest update on the Sahel Alliance [Mali/Burkina Faso/ and Niger] - which ignores the actual latest [e.g., Capital Program Planning or enterprise resource planning {ERP] for enterprise project portfolio management [EPPM]/ life cycle development for MFG/SCM] agenda strategies on the ground in the Sahel Alliance. E.g., Prashad posits that the young rulers of the Sahel Alliance are without a governance agenda [e.g., a Transshipment agreement with African two port sovereignties] is a disappointing oversight [Track 15:30 -15:44] on the laps of Prashad and the podcast Hosts.
