I Can't BELIEVE I caught giant sheepshead on CORN!!
In this video I head out kayak fishing for sheepshead with a secret bait that I have never used before! As soon as I started dropping this bait around a bridge I started hooking up with sheepshead and used this sheepshead rig to catch a BIG Sheepshead!!

Man I appreciate the heck out of that!!
I live in Fort Walton Beach also
@@user-bt6zr4br7m It's such a small world...Who knows, we may have run into each other one day
Canned/frozen corn has always been my solid go-to since a kid. It is versatile and it seems darn-near everything seems to go at it at least once.
🙌
Never thought of or tried hominy as bait for a thing. But it makes sense, too. Loving the ideas.
I can't believe any self respecting fish would eat tasteless hominy.
Aquatic life senses are different than human senses. ;)
What state are you fishing in
I fish out of Ponce Inlet FL. Our go to baits for sheeps are the typical fiddler crabs, sand fleas and shrimp. But dang, now I'm adding canned corn and hominy to my grocery shopping list! Thanks for the idea.
😂 🙌 🙌
If it's ok to ask , what was your results with the corn and or the hominy?
I fish the new Smyrna bridge fenders with corn and do pretty good but no luck at the jetty, kinda strange
From Buffalo New York , I have used canned corn for years it’s really cool seeing you use it too. I catch monster carp in neighboring creeks for fun when I’m not going after big Smallmouth Bass on Lake Erie . Great stuff man ! Awesome content !
🙌 awesome brother!!
I grew up in the City of Tonawanda
Im new to Buffalo and reside in cheektowaga. I plan to use this concept
Trout love the sweet corn bigtime as well.
@user-bi9jj6gz1q sea trout ?
I live in north central North Carolina and fish every where I can, fresh and salt water. I started fishing for sheepshead several years ago and enjoyed the content!
🙌 🙌
Super fun to watch! Great job out there testing the two kinds. I learned something new!
🙌 thanks brother can’t wait to see what you do with the Hoodwinks!!
@@southernsalt thank you sir! I’ll try them on our shallow flats. Clear water should be good for the colors I picked.
Recently moved to the Panama City, Florida area. I've been out fishing a few times but still haven't caught my first sheepshead. I'm adding corn to the shopping list and will give it a try on my next trip to the bridge. Thanks for the video!
Let us know how you do!
Caught my first sheepshead in PCB on the Jetty in St Andrew. You live in a great spot!
@@AngryChiropractor Thanks for the tip. I'll certainly check that out.
They are very abundant, get very big, and tug hard. They eat mostly barnacles from pilings but will hit most anything dropped in front of them. Fresh dead shrimp works fine. No need to buy expensive live bait for them. Most people don't like to eat them, but that mindset is slowly changing.
@@kevinstogner9477 Are there certain times to fish for them? High/low tide? I've been to the bridge several times trying to catch them. Ive used fidler crabs, shrimp, sqid but got nothing.
Cut ya a small piece of pool noodle and zip tie it on the handle close to the net or to the string handle. You won't lose it again. As per the pool noodle fool I am...LOL
Or... Pop the cap off the end and give it a squirt of insulation foam and turn the handle into a bobber.
Yep that would of saved me lol
Much better option. @@gregkirchner1108
Just a 4 ft piece of Paracord tether will get yet net back every time.
Shoepeg corn is not as soft and stays on rhe hook better, we brine it with salt to dehydrate it and then soak it with pink shrimp sent to catch the heck out of the Kokanee up here in WA state, give that a try.
Hey I am from Alapaha, Ga. I haven’t fished very much the last few years but I stumbled on your fishing videos and I love to fish but work gets in the way. I’m getting close to retirement so I may get more active in fishing. I love the taste of sheepshead fish. I also love the simplicity of your equipment and low budget boat.😂❤😂
I've caught a ton of rainbows and browns with corn. Catching sheepshead on it is crazy.
🙌
Great vid.enjoy all your vids. Tried Earth worms for sheepshead and caught a limit.great idea saves you money and it works. Looking forward to your next video 😁👍🐡🐠🐟🤙

From Indiana but have a place in Astor, FL and love to chase the sheeps in the Daytona area. We tried your nightcrawler trick a while back and it worked! They were all small but caught sheepshead, mangroves, and puffers on the worms. 😂
Heck yeah very nice!!
Ooooh I was way off!!! Can’t wait to see how this goes!!!
Very interesting. I will use fresh corn when i get out fishing and on a sibiki. Good video.❤
I bet a sabiki would work well
Brilliant Nate! I will try both corn and hominy, plus the worms the next time....well, the first time that I try for Sheepshead. I'm in Tallahassee and will try to get down to the "Old" St George Island bridge. Probably my favorite fish to catch around here is Flounder!
Awesome let us know how you do!!
I agree. "Come for the sweet corn, stay for the hominy".
You are the first person I've seen that lets the fish bite an waits a min before you set the hook something new to me .I'm from Lancaster SC good video
I like to feel them have a constant tug on the bait before I set the hook.
My dad was great at getting good hook sets on Sheepheads when others (like me) were missing them left and right. Especially in fast moving tide changes at choke points like the Oregon Inlet at the OBX in NC. He would say the secret was “setting the hook before you felt the bite”. He also often rigged it drop-shot so the weight was below the hook, sometimes using 1/8 oz above the leader and a split shot or 1/16 jig head below, with the hook swinging off a 3-4” dropper loop between the leads. It kept just enough tension on the line that he could feel anything. He’d say stuff like “oh there’s one sizing up my bait right now…he’s thinking, he’s thinking, he’s staring really hard…”BAM hook set. And my brother and I NEVER SAW THE ROD TWITCH or line move or anything that indicated a nibble.
Used to use this trick of canned whole corn 50 years ago for catfish and carp - 1st day of fishing might not catch many, but when 1st day of fishing is over, throw the rest of the canned corn in the water as chum and come back the next day with corn and WOW - fish are biting everywhere! It was lots of fun and it worked really well. Back then it was 3 cans of corn for $1.00 where I lived.
Elkhorn, Wisconsin The best thing Ive done in my 65 years was teach my only son to fish. Happy holidays sir!
Happy Holidays and that right there is pure awesomeness!!
Hopefully, later on, he will teach you his tricks that may work better than what you grew up knowing ..make sure you teach him that part too ..😂
yeah, gotta be nice to our children, they'll be choosing our nursing homes :)
I'm from Houston, Texas and my PB sheepshead is 23.5". She wasn't really a fat fish, but ended up being my pb both in weight and in length.

I like the video and your enthusiasm! I fish out of Tampa Bay and usually those bare patches on the pilings are where other people have been scraping with a shovel or edging tool to chum the fish...
Thank you! I think small patches are fish big patches from people
Congrats on such a great and creative video!

Hey I live in Pearl River, La if you wanna call that livin but my favorite fish to catch are the one’s that’s biting. For me it’s all about the experience. You know like tricking a fish into thinking that soft plastic minnow is so tasty that he needs to come take a bite & try it out !!! Keep up the good work.
From Aurora, IL. I fish a lot for smallmouth in the local river and catch a walleye or catfish every once in a while on lures
Viewing from south Texas near South padre island! Love the content!! Will try this for sure

I'm from Walker, LA! I don't get to salt water fish too often but my favorite fish to catch is the one that takes the bait! White Hominy will tried next time I go salt water fishing.

Kenny in Cocoa Beach Fl, great video on the bait used to get those sheepshead. Ill definitely be giving that a try. 🎣
🙌
You are the GENIUS!😀

The sheepshead wasn’t only thing eating the corn😂 I got hungry so Nate gave me some 😂
😂 😂
IF YOU GET A CHANCE,TRY USING FRESH WATER CRAWDADS FOR BAIT
Have to be fresh but are amazing for everything
Hey good video. Thanks I will definitely try this my next trip. I'm going to mix 1 sweet 1 harmony 1 sweet 1 harmony and so on. Thanks and be safe Brother
Nice! Let me know how you do!
Here in Milton and can't wait to start catching some sheepshead and definitely going to use corn/hominy. Should have my boat by July. Hopefully I will run into you out there and get to shake your hand.
Good luck brother and I’m sure we will meet on the water one of these days!
Georgetown SC…. Absolutely never thought of corn and salt/brackish water. We have used yellow corn for bream and it works pretty good but I’ll definitely try it. Love your channel!!! I guess the dip net is gone? 😂
Ft Walton FL here shout out love the content
🙌 🙌
Love catching smallmouth, pike, and walleye in MN. I have never caught a drum before though but I’ve heard of people catching freshwater drum in my area
Nice!!
From Deerfield Beach Florida but fish all over Florida when we go camping. Going to try the hominy trick the next time l go fishing! Was just fishing on the Matlacha bridge on Pine Island (near Fort Myers.... wish I'd seen this video before l had to head back to Deerfield! Can't wait to try it!
Awesome, let us know how it works for you!!
Amazing Content. Love it!
Thanks brother!!
From Ocala, Florida...live in the Midwest now...Iowa. 21" Sheepshead but didn't know they tasted good, so it went back in. I moved when I graduated High School, so I fished where my daddy fished, which is freshwater. So I trusted someone telling me the Sheepshead tasted like crap, so I tossed it back. I fish for a lot of crappie and catfish now days...but am starting to make more and more trips back to Florida now. So my PB Cobia was 31"...caught on my last trip to Florida in October.
Very nice man! I do enjoy a good crappie bite myself when I’m fresh water fishing!!
That’s awesome! Nice sheepshead on the Hominy!! Wow. You’re the R&D of Sheepshead 😂
😂
I thought perhaps this was pure clic-bait, but my hats off to you my friend!👍
🙌 I try to stay away from it in this channel
Freeport Florida, I primarily fish around Hogtown Bayou, Never tried to fish the pilons, prefer the grass flats and the quiet there. Great content.
Nice! I appreciate it!!
Great Job! Atlantic City,N.J. here.
🙌
That's crazy. Sometimes when I catch sheepshead I have a real hard time getting the hook out of their hard mouths. Sometimes the hook breaks. Revolutionary!!
🙌 🙌
I live in Callahan,Fl and fish out of Fernandina Beach and Jacksonville/Mayport area, can’t wait to try this on the convicts 😂
Great video! If you use the corn and hominy again, maybe try putting a piece of each on your hook at the same time. I had no idea sheepshead would bite a splitshot! The tide has always been ripping and or wind blowing to hard to use anything less than a 1/4-1/5 ounce egg weight EVERY time I tried to catch sheepshead lol! I also think like someone else posted that crappie bites might be another good idea. Also live meal worms would probably work good. Meal worms are my favorite bluegill and shellcracker bait.
Thanks brother great points! I’m definitely trying crappie bites lol
I spray that foam called Great Stuff into the handle and will always float
As a kid we used corn for carp, cats, bluegill , rainbow trout, all freshwater species. Going to try it down in the Carolinas this year. Nice video
Nice!!
I have to try your Technique for Sheepshead👍
🙌
Florida and love catching mangrove snapper.
Awesome!!
Savannah, Ga. Started fishing a few years ago. Haven't caught a sheep yet. Love catching the trout for the table. Reds are a blast to fight but not my fav to eat. Not much structure within an easy pedaling distance from where I usually launch to target sheeps. May try the corn/hominy in Jacksonville next week though. Love the content!
Awesome let us know how you do but if you can get crabs they are the best bait!!
Indiana boy hoping to head to Florida soon! Enjoy the content brotha! I’m definitely trying out some can goods for sheepshead when I get down there!!! 🤙🏽🙏🏽
🙌 heck yeah brother good luck!!
😆 🤣 😂 im trying this tomorrow. Great video from corpus christi tx.
🙌
Viewing from diamondhead ms I love going out there and catching reds
Nice!!
This was fantastic it made me laugh!
🙌
I'm in Southeastern NC and have been watching your channel to learn about Sheepshead. Have never caught any but would like to. Maybe I'll try the hominy and put some scent spray or gel on it and see if that increases the bite action. Also am going to try the nightcrawler to see if that works around here. Normally everyone around here uses Fiddlers, Mud Crabs, and chunks of Blue Crab to catch the sheep.
Yeah definitely go with crabs for your first sheepshead. All of those things work but nothing works as good as fiddler crabs.
Do you fish around Morehead
I love this freaking channel
🙌 🙌
Hahahahahahahahahaha brilliant! I’ll definitely keep this in mind if I can get my hands on some crabs❤
🙌
Good advice 👍
🙌
I'm from Pensacola Florida and I love catching bream and reds
Nice!!
From Franklin KY. Caught a 16" sheep off a rock jettie. Got my Southern Salt lures a few months ago and couldn't wait to use them until I get back south. Was using the Hoodwink bumping bottom for sauger and caught a drum (freshwater). Hopefully that is an indication for how they will work on redfish.
🙌 🙌 heck yeah man I appreciate it and can’t wait to hear how you do!
New Iberia Louisiana enjoyed the video
🙌 🙌
Nice work 🤙
🙌
I came to Taiwan Also like fishing Nice to see your You Tube fishing show
