We're checking out Cities Skylines 2 (City Skyline 2) today, and what better way to do it than to build a city that is completely isolated from the outside world and fully self sufficient! Is it possible?

Took me a grand total of about 5 minutes before noticing the island was a knob
Yeaaaaaa
First time? 😂
it's the optimal city layout
Took you that long? When he buildt the trench I thought it was already quite obvious.
12:25 he zoomed out and I saw the Knob
I'm a software engineer, and I also didn't know software weighed anything. You learn something new every day. (Especially when you're subbed to RCE!)
all those 1s and 0s mate
All the internet data weights less than 100g. You can imagine how productive the software engineers of this island are.
It's all those AOL cd's of yesteryear
yes
Yes, I'd like 15 lbs of software, please. And a quart of compute time (I'm spoiling myself)
I love that you built a completely different island for the thumbnail to not give away the joke of how it was really shaped.
Honestly I'd have been more surprised if it wasn't shaped like that. Imagine how surprised we'd be if he pulled back for the final reveal and it was a car or a shark or something yonic.
I was so interested in a triangle self sufficient city ; u;
Idea for a challenge: 1. Start new game (unlocked everything) 2. Pause 3. Build a whole city in one go 4. Unpause and never build again Just to see how well you can balance out the city outright and if you won't forget anything important ;)
Great Idea
man has hardly any population but has enough infrastructure and upkeep costs for tens of thousands of people lmaoo
as if cs2 is anywhere near complex enough for that to not be a randomizer challange with extremly positive odds for the player
12:22… oh.. didn’t know making the island that shape was his intention.. 😂
I was like that looks like....ohhh lololol
I believe you put all your farms on non-agricultural land lol they aren't producing anything as you can see at 15:43 My head cannon here is that there is a black market for food and other stuff in this city where people bring in things using tiny boats since the bridge was destroyed.
Got my man Tazuna sneaking out to hire a team from the Hidden Leaf village to free them from Gato the engineering magnate, but he's trying to pay the hokage in terabytes.
8:56 little twiddly bits. Sure RCE. You definitely didn’t make the island an elephants face with hair coming off the ears.
I like where he put the tip though.
You didnt do it on purpose, but the placement of your sewage coming out from under the base of the balls is poetic as hell.
Oh he did. He did...
As a person without balls I don't understand
@@Echo_the_half_glitch It's either one of two things: 1) Balls get sweaty and smelly and gross because of skin folds and general crotch nooks and crannies or 2) The base of the balls is close to the anus.
@@gamera5160 I can't believe you actually needed to explain this
@@ems4884 I’m happy to explain and expand people’s horizons.
17:57 the tweet "My package is taking so long to arrive" xD dead
I was way too far into this video before I picked up on how efficiently you had shaped your island.
hey Matt, for the next cities skylines video - **could you make a city on the steepest hill?**
i mean- how different would that be from this? lol
@@Yilmaz4 Less structurally efficient.
it could be the female equivalent of this island's shape. all the layers could be more and more hills and crevaces
Building farms on non-fertile land is certainly a bold move!
Some people have their daily news, some people have their nightly game shows, I have RCE.
I've been looking forward to new vids since 2021
I for one am absolutely shocked that Matt decided to shape his island like a certain human appendage. Shocked I tell you!
I know it has a striking resemblance to a d!(k
I know it has a striking resemblance to a d!(k
That’s how he shapes everything
Tip for Matt: The reasoning behind why industrial did not fill in around the landfill what not because of the landfill. It was because it takes 12-20 months to graduate from a university not to mention the previous education steps to enable university education. In addition to this, (I have said this before and I'll say it again) there is a job overlay you can check. More people equals less jobs available, less residential and higher industrial demand due to unemployment. This works inversely as well. ! Hope it helps and thanks for the video! ;)
Remove people to remove demand Got it *loads smg with malicious, but needed, intent*
12:24 i had to pause the video and admire the sheer beauty and elegance of the island this legend made.
The collective term for the residents of this island is: A bunch of knobs
Matt: *makes the very reasonable decision to ensure the city won't be covered in trash and pollution before building* Also Matt: I don't know why I prioritized that.
These CS2 challenges continue to get better and better
The palm islands were a symptom of architecture, which is why they failed.
"It's like the Palm Islands, if they weren't a failure." LOL Dubai is about one of the stupidest experiments in hubris.
what makes you think that?
18:33 The cable is under tension, the bridge deck is under compression. As long as the bridge deck and its connection to the cable hold, the bridge wouldn't collapse. Trust me, I took 1 semester of Engineering.
As a longtime CS player and mod user, watching you build in this game is both painful and wholesomely entertaining. The shore wall thing is easy tho. Build the road further in, then use landscape tool to remove the little strip of land between the road and water, let the water fill in that space, bob's your uncle.
Strong shape. Looks firm. Inspires confidence.
There is a reference in Timberborn to your KZhead channel. Last building in the water section. Build it then read the saying about it.
I can't open the game now, but am curious what the reference is. Please enlighten me.
You have to play as the iron teeth. It is the bad water discharge. It reads "Only real civil engineers are allowed nearby"
There's always the moment where you realise how efficient it is shaped. You can try to hide it, but weve learned the twisted ways of the engineer
Why looks the island like a .....🤨
Poor Matt, he forgot about boats.
But the boats weren't actually connected to the city in any way, were they?
@@Red-Tower they weren't cuz he didn't build a ferry or a cargo so no boat
Me before my daily dose of engineering: 😞💩 Me after my daily dose of engineering: 😁👍
Ok just got to say it, even though you have probably heard it a million times already, buuuutt,,, would love to see you play Palworld. It would be hilarious to see it paled from an Engineers perspective. Love the videos my friend. Keep up the great work!
What I will say is, at my job as a Mechanical Design Engineer, my bosses want me to prioritize design, yes, but also they want me to ensure that the product we make looks presentable. It's not architecture, obviously... but still, I think it's worth mentioning.
1:48 I was looking at maps of Paris, and was wondering why they basically had the same... I am used to seeing American stuff where we have large areas of nothing, and long highways going to the cities and the like. Makes sense now :O
I love the Green screen explosions.
It's those lazy editors again.
i just wanted to say i absolutely love ur videos mat. keep up the good work
If you reload the map the issue with bridges or roads being inside water gets fixed. Thought that would eventually get fixed but guess not.
I believe the island needs to seek medical help. If its developing spiky protrusions, you've developed a deadly architecture based illness.
I watch your videos every night and fall asleep but tonight I couldn’t because of the music in the background 😂 drove me crazy!!!
The easiest way to make the seawall road is put the road on the ground and then lower terrain only to the middle of the road. Then remove the road and place it again.
When you said about the m25 you reminded me that last week I almost crashed on the m25 when I hit some oil or ice I'm not sure what one it was but it was the longest 1 second of my life
Took me like 30 seconds to figure the strongest shape of the island xD The "circular shape" with hair was a dead tell :3 I have seen enought RCE videos to know where this is goin xD
12:23 That is a amazing island shape lol
The poo chute on the gooch was a lovely little nod to realism.
Your city looks suspicious
Hey matt! Why not make a map with 2 separate island, 1 for engineer and 1 for architect! So we can see the difference 🤣
And the city's named LonGdonG...
👈Something about this thumbnail was actually so aesthetically calming, felt like visual ASMR
Yeah but where is it from? We got click baited lol
@@SkarletShadows He can't help himself. A million rces in a million different games in a million different times and places will always draw the strongest shape.
Very interesting rocket ship shaped island!
Peer Pressure here: Play Frostpunk! The Engineers at New Autumn need your help building the generator to survive the cold!
I love this game so much! So much freedom!!
2:57 they SERIOUSLY need to fix that. It's an incredibly widespread issue. I have that issue in my game so much, especially when building under water tunnels, it tells me that, get this, the under water tunnel is....UNDER WATER.
I wonder if the devs took into account internet physics, in which water reflects data signals and when the signals hit the reflected signals they are negated causing unstable/unusable internet. (This is why you dont get service in the ocean unless youre on an extremely big boat)
That first zoom out made me lol. I should’ve known by now…
-1 days of asking matt to play, Shrek: Forever After
Shrek Puzzles. What more needs to be said?
6:55 holy shiiiitt, my dad was a civil engineer before he retired and that’s exactly the kind of jab he’d make at architects lmao
Should have had the sewage shooting out of the tip
If that's where you think it should come from, you should probably see a doctor.
Video idea Test witch connections are the best Have an couple of island One witch only a boat connection One with only train connection One with only air connection One witch only walking connection....
Can the city of Schlongberg survive a second episode? Maybe we'll find out someday...
Are those outer lines hairs? RCE did it again!
They are obviously breakwaters to protect the shore. A fundamental part of efficient island city design.
Nuclear plant: is same size as geothermal but makes more power Rce: .....Geothermal...... 4:50
Your Patreon banner, is that a screenshot from the construction site level of A Way Out? Cause I worked on part of that environment haha
It took me way too long to notice the shape of the island, of course RCE, of course
Man everytime I watch Matt play a game it makes me want to just go and buy it even when I probably would’ve never bought it anyway
Love your vids matt, you never fail to to make me laugh
Well done!
Inspired by this video I tried building an isolated island myself. Went pretty well, everyone was happy, more births than deaths. However no one arrived at my island but people still “escaped” while the was no way in or out.
Loving the green screen effects there
Bro put the prison next to the hospital I’m dead😂😂
11:22 I'd love to see that in a real life application. Should be fairly doable, if you apply the common sense rule of "a tram has always preference", but with all the muppets that get that get to obtain their driving license nowadays, something like that would spell doom.
love ur videos man
16:36 Matt definitely named them Matt and paddy
What happened to our bridge reviews? Matt please bring them back.
they are still here. One from the shapez vid. yes i have only seen that one for like a month, but they're not gone
He Killed a bridge... clearly an architect
Thing is, I think he's already reviewed all the Cities Skylines bridges.
12:17: Oh man I only noticed the shape of the island here. 🙃
"If the people are uneducated, than the society is doomed. That how architecture started after all" - this bit absolutely sent me
12:24 like uhhh... The City looks a bit like i dont know :-) Welcome to falus island than, I guess than... :-D
You know it’s real civil engineer when he has a city with no high ways out
Hey RCE, the taxis and buses can have electric upgrades, so they don't use fuel.
truly the strongest shape
He said 'tip' and I already knew where this was going lol
Interesting shape for an island :D
RCE never fails to entertain us!💖💖👏👏
Always a pleasure to watch these wacky videos
We need a part 2
THE SHAPE!
It would be really helpful to have a chart for all your city's metrics...like population over time, revenue over time, deaths over time, etc.
They are in the game
Hi
Took far too long for me to realise the island is the strongest shape
8:13 Those aren't the arterials. Those are the venous.
Just came home from club it’s 04:44, I’m drunk and watching u my frienz
RCE created an island powered by geothermal energy. He should rename this episode to “ I made Iceland in CS2!”
One day, a boy will be born on this island who seeks freedom and will keep moving forward until all his enemies are destroyed on the other side of the sea
Nice job
I noticed it was a knob as soon as I saw how the roads were getting curved
I saw an ad about keeping my strongest shape hard on this video Wasn't sure if it was an ad or a sponsored video
12:23 wow 💀
13:51 yeah that’s the problem that nobody wants to talk about. Easiest time to be alive right now
The moment he started placing the landfill, it was obvious
16:42 Matt is Mungo jerry confirmed
DAY 1 of me asking Matt to build urban planning concepts like garden cities and walkable cities and 15 minute cities in cities skylines 2
As I saw the tip for the garbage, I know what efficient shape the isolated island would become
I don't think isolated cities need prisons, just a 3 strikes rule. 3 violations and you're off the island!
