  • Hey guys, I know you're busy and hope you're well. Just watched the video and it made me remember an old video you did at the city of Norwich aviation museum. I volunteer at the museum in Norwich and would love to invite you again and get you in a good few of the aircraft and show you how much its changed since your last visit.

  • Can’t beat a good aircraft museum, always an interesting visit. Including my apprenticeship (I trained as an aircraft electrician) I spent 51 years working on aeroplanes. I started at Hawker Siddeley working on Harriers, Hunters, Hawks and a Gnat, later on I moved to an airport working on big aeroplanes including BAC 1-11’s, DC10’s, A320’s, Boeing 747’s, Airbus A340’s and A330’s. A lot of the aircraft in museums have been donated, but the problem museums have is keeping them in good condition, if you leave them outside in the weather they deteriorate and corrode. That’s why some museums have just the cockpit sections because of the amount of space a full aircraft takes up. It’s a shame to cut the rest off but the cockpit is where all the interesting bits are. Small military aircraft don’t have a lot of space in them, I’m 6 foot 3 inches and getting into some of the places inside to work on them was a struggle at times. Even on the big civil aircraft some places where things are fitted was not easy to get to. But I enjoyed the job so much I deferred my retirement for two years, it was always interesting and gave me a sense of achievement when an aircraft came in with a defect and I had it fixed and back out flying in a couple of hours. Some of the actual aeroplanes I worked on are in museums XX154 the very first Hawk, G-VTOL the company demonstrator Harrier and G-HAWK the company demonstrator HAWK. I think there’s a couple of others as well but they are in private collections. Just remember in that simulator or a real aeroplane, getting off the ground in an aeroplane is the relatively easy bit, just go fast enough and you’ll go up. Getting back down on the ground in one piece is a little more difficult. A common saying among pilots is any landing you walk away from is a good one. Don’t worry Mazzy, those military aeroplanes you were looking at have not had anybody die in them, if they had they’d have been smashed to bits when they hit the ground! But as amazing as those ejector seats are, they will save your life if it all goes wrong with the aeroplane in the air but if you get it wrong on the ground(especially in a hangar) they will kill you! I’ve added this museum to my list of must visit places.

  • The nozzle that was on the front of that one plane is for aerial refueling. A basket hangs out of the back of a bigger plane full of fuel and you fit the two together and it fuels it once connected.

  • The reason the water is that colour is because they add a dye to it, preventing the sunlight penetrating. They've probably had previous problems with extreme weed growth

  • Crumbs that was step up over the bridge. Well done on that one. I am like you mazzy I love the planes. Not really sure why, but they do excite me.xx I think it’s 751 miles an hour when you hear the planes break the sound barrier , that would be in emergency of course. So could you imagine, doing the speed of the lightning. Unbelievable in a plane so old. Thanks for sharing today with us very enjoyable.. the class 55 by the way is called a Deltic. There are a few preserved. I loved the sound they made. I think my all time favourite train.
