Beating every Elden Ring Minor Dungeon using ONLY equipment found within
A pretty whacky challenge run video for Elden Ring! Here, I need to beat every Elden Ring minor dungeon using only equipment found inside each specific dungeon. For example, Stormfoot Catacombs' boss must be beaten using a weapon found inside (in this case, the forked hatchet) and only wearing armour or talismans found within (in this case, nothing!). Hope you enjoy this video and leave comment below to let me know your favourite Elden Ring minor dungeon!

"animal enemies obviously don't drop weapons" the spiders from dark souls 2 dropping zweihanders like a boss
Not like only zweihanders but whole arsenal
Really wish there were some of those in Spiritcaller Cave 😭
Black knight greatsword too
H o w
haha i remember farming those for my first zweihander and i used it for the whole game including the dlc’s
I think if I were to do this myself, I'd add the rule that if there isn't any "(weapon, spirit ash, talisman)" in a dungeon, I can use something I got from the last one in place of nothing/the torch. This would give opportunity to make more use of the actual boss rewards, and make the whole thing more bearable. This IS a challenge run, though, so props on you for adhering to the difficulty.
Yeah that is a fair point, but challenge runs have to have those moments like having to fight Godskin Apostle + Godskin Noble with a torch or it's no fun 😂
@@JKLeeds I think you just have a slight masochistic tendency there.
I think it would be interesting to use only boss rewards. You may use any of the bosses' drops at any time but only once each. Could come up with some interesting combinations. I don't know what you would use for the initial fight though.
I love that mirror image attack Astel uses, it's like he's saying "THE REPEATS ARE INTENTIONAL, GET IT??"
😂😂😂 never thought of it that way!
@@JKLeeds lmao even from a deep lore standpoint the repeated Astel is really disappointing. thought this was an excellent challenge idea tho, and you did great with it
fun fact: That version of Astel is the only one capable of that attack. There's a theory that Astel is an evolution, not a name. It starts at Fallinstar, then evolves into the stationary larva like Astels we find in Nokstella and Sage's Cave, and ends off as the Astel we find in Consecrated Snowfield.
@@brotusclips the lore standpoint is like.. the only understandable reason for there to be an astel repeat
Hey guys, so I saw a few comments about the horrible beep sound for the 2-3 swears in the video and thought it would be easier to explain in a pinned comment here. In the lead up to this videos release, one of my other videos got hit by a restriction from KZhead so at the last minute, I tried to remove anything in this video that might cause it to happen to this one. I know that sound is awful but let me assure you, lessons were learnt and that sound will never be heard in one of my videos ever again. Thank you all for watching and hope you've enjoyed the video regardless 😊
I thought is was my fan it makes a beep like that and I had to replay the video to realize it
Can I suggest the elden ring parry SFX as a replacement for future bleeping? Deflecting the foul corruption of demonetization and all.
Haha clever idea! To be fair, I don't swear that much in the vids anyway so I'll just not have any in future
@jkleeds1031 Something you maybe also wanna pay attention to as your channel grows is misgendering. Might be seen as "overly PC" but it makes youtubers always kinda seem more professional. For example all black knife assassins are female and cleanrot knights might also be that too (Since the only one gendered in the game is female). But then you call a flower "she" which is also strange.
@@ElectricNox I guess because I saw the name Miranda? Seemed like a female name but yeah you're right probably something to note. Had no idea the assassins were female until reading comments here
Very creative idea and fun video. Only thing I’ll say is that I also really enjoyed the cross naginata, thought the moveset was very fun and liked using Loretta’s ash of war on it
Yeah it's a sweet weapon actually! Really enjoyed it
@@JKLeeds Cross Naginata is one of my favorite weapons. The tryhards who dual wield running attack with it are missing out on that one handed moveset.
The guardian swordspear also has a fantastically unique moveset!
me running guardian sword spear, and regualry fights dual cross naginata, I will really like fighting it is either you get sent to the shadow realm, or the player has 0 pvp understanding and still manages to get u to 50hp from poking you 7 ft away and you only won since they just messed up where they stood.
@@cthulhurage4580 I've been doing a Frozen Armament Cross Naginata on my Dex/Int build and it SLAPS. So much Burst damage when you get the procs, and it does good base damage because it's an enchantment and not an infusion, too. Throw on Flame of the Redmanes and you can reset the Cold Proc, too.
the war-dead catacombs are scaled for dragonbarrow, which for some reason has scaling comparable to the mountaintop of the giants, so that's probably part of what made that boss take so long also, i personally feel that the reuse of astel actually _adds_ to his mystique; suddenly, he's not a one-off aberration, he's a member of a _species_ which raises so many questions (it also makes sense because the fallenstar beasts and malformed stars seem to be the same type of creature in earlier stages of it's life cycle)
Fun Fact: 13:46 Completing this Cave actually is required for getting Latenna the Albinauric as a Spirit Summon and gives you access to her quest if she isn't dead by the time you reach her. The reward for completing her quest and bringing her to that one church in the Consecrated Snowfield is a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. 32:42 There's also a Cemetery Shade in this Dungeon that drops the Mantis Blade.
Also, something not many people know, when you get her as a Spirit Summon, if you summon her near one of the bigger wolves, she does not just stand still, she will get on the wolf and ride around like the other Albinauric archers in the snowfields. I wish there were more Spirit Summons like this ;-;
@@WolfieTheWuf That's actually an oversight. The code that lets Albinaurics mount wolves wasn't removed for her, so she'll do it, but the wolf will still be hostile and they'll try to kill eachother.
My favorite dungeon has got to be the war-dead catacombs, watching spirits continue the war of the shattering for eternity even after their death really is something else. Honorable mention to yelough anix tunnel and fringefolk heros grave for being quite complex and gelmir heros grave for allowing you to ride a goddamn chariot
My favourite one is the jail style one in caelid, there is a good amount of gear and the layout Ia really good, have to explore the Dungeon twice ( before and after activate the leaver ) . I feel like the dungeons should have been like this one, pretty original
@@jajasking9652 yeah that is one is also cool as hell
Snowfield Catacombs with that secret room that's deep AF, with that one Burial Watchdog that hits like a truck
@@nathreetimesnineequalstwen7172 i don't think I've even discovered that one, I'll find it on my next playthrough
@@MorizonPlays it should be the first one on the right in the Consecrated Snowfields (I think). The Burial Watchdog I'm talking about is in a dangerous area (not the boss) so make sure you have a back up plan ✓
Honestly my one pet peeve of "Reused Bosses" is that the Burial Watchdogs all have minor differences, the first two had different heads and aggro patterns for example, but I get how when they usually die quickly its just "Thats the same guy!"
The unique feature of the serpent sword is it heals you whenever you kill an enemy, stacking with Taker's Icon & Rykard's Rune and all other heal-on-kill effects
additionally you dont even need to kill with the weapon, you can just have it offhanded and it'll heal you as long as its equipped, even if you're twohanding another weapon.
My favorite minor dungeon is the Forgotten Cave. I love the transparent ice for the floor, the dead dragon at the entrance, going under the ice for the boss, then finding that the boss has a unique weapon _AND_ unique (for a leonine misbegotten) attacks.
Gratz on the run, and on pushing through all the weaponless dungeons. I would've probably said you're free to craft your own weapons from the stuff you find inside the dungeons, like making thin beast bones into throwing daggers
Omg I’m so happy you did this run as I used to do this on my Fallout and Skyrim days when playing them. The rule was simple, you go to a hostile area, you drop everything you own before you entered and then enter that area looking for utility. It made for some brutal gameplay on those games, especially if you max out the difficulty! Never thought to do this on Elden Ring! But now I wanna jump on Fallout 3 and NV to try my old challenge run! Edit: if anyone wanna try this run on the fallout or even elder scrolls series it’s really simple. As long as you’re out in the open world you can use whatever you have. But as soon as you’re about to either enter or be outside of a marked area on the map as long as it’s hostile you immediately drop all what you own and can never pick it back up. Literally everything ammo food meds (depending which you’re playing). You enter basically naked with nothing to help you, and you’re objective is to kill everything in that area before you can progress to the next location and rinse and repeat. Due to these games having RNG loot it made some areas hella fun or even frustrating. It was best experienced on the fallouts but it does work for Skyrim too. Only rule I set for myself was that I wasn’t allowed to level up melee on the Fallout titles as it would’ve made it simpler. Highly recommend giving this a chance as it is unique and very different as I was doing this back in 2011 on Fallout 3 and NV. Playing on a harder difficulty made it more and more brutal but still fun.
Yes! Loved doing this run for Skyrim, really makes things interesting. Actually gets easier as you go though, since enemy drops improve.
@@thomaskilroy3199 I did prefer it on fallout but Skyrim was pretty decent, I haven’t tried it on Skyrim since 2012, but now I have the Series X edition with all the creator mods I wonder if it’ll be good on survival mode! I remember trying it on NV on very hard on hardcore and maybe got through 6 locations before it became way too hard as a challenge as I couldn’t loot anything in the open world on in hostile areas and not every area had food or water! Overall I really wanna do it on these survival difficulties that the 2 fallout games have and Skyrim
If you want a follow up to use the boss weapons, you could do a similar run where you only use the latest boss weapon you acquired
I think the Alabastor Lord's Sword does more damage to gravity themed enemies/aliens, which is really fitting against Astel.
Cool idea for a challenge run! A few things that are probably totally useless now in hindsight, but might be good to know: - The flying Misbegotten's in Morne also drop the Misbegotten shortbow, a more strength scaling light bow that has Barrage - great for starting a bow only build - Don't remember if there was any to be found in those catacombs, but using crystal darts against any golem creature (ie the imps or the Watchdogs), can make them aggro other mobs for a time. Really nice for groups as you can make them fight each other - I think this challenge is the first time anyone has ever said "Rosus Axe is awesome" - The very first imp in Road's End Catacombs can actually drop the Forked greatsword - right next to the bonfire so the best farm spot, although the drop rate sucks - "Jail" is the correct pronunciation for Gaol, exactly the same. Just an old word for it, was actually the predominate spelling for it used between about ~1750 - 1930 - If using a Greatbow, you can actually get a faster shot off by jumping first, you start pulling the arrow back in-air and then can release shortly after you land. Check out dangitjm on youtube/Twitch, great guy and figured out a lot of how the bows in ER work best, especially in PvP - Just to be pedantic, but technically speaking for the Sainted Hero's Grave, the Black Knife is dropped by the black knife assassin miniboss just outside the entrance here - isn't actually in the dungeon. Granted, if you didn't use that its back to the forked hatchet or you pray to get a lucky drop of the Duelist weapon from the one that unlocks the boss room and doesn't respawn. So totally fair play to use the cool dagger imho - Shotel is fully pronounced, pretty much how it is spelled: "show-tul". Its an Abyssinian (present day Ethiopia) kind of curved sword - Cranial Vessel Candlestand's item description is... kinda horrific, go read it. But a unique weapon, although with limited utility, you can actually keep that flame spew ash up by mashing L2 as long as you have FP and stamina
Thanks for the detailed comment man! I actually did know about the crystal darts thing with the Watchdogs but annoyingly you can't get any darts in any of the dungeons where they appear. That's really cool to know bout the greatbow though, might try a greatbow only run someday!
Ok mom
The Shotel is Ethiopian in origin? I never knew that, thanks!
Always wanted to try this specific type of challenge in several different games. Fun to see it in a video.
This is an awesome idea for a challenge, get to see a lot of variety and show off some unlikely items haha
That was exactly my goal!
I’d love to see you do a run with only boss weapons that would be a fun to watch
Hey love the shoutout to Stillwater, MN. And the run. And your commentary. Really just bravo all around.
Your voice is super consistent without being monotone so it was a great video to fall asleep to. Thanks, homie
Hah you're welcome! I was actually ill during the recording of some of this so my voice was giving out at certain points. Glad you enjoyed it 😂
I really love your content. Your scripts are so well written, your jokes are amazing , and your music choice is top tier. Thanks again for the great videos!
unique idea and very well executed, great video!!
Thanks man! Glad you liked it 😃
What a fun idea! This is my first video I've watched of yours. Brilliant.
Thanks man, happy to hear you enjoyed the video 😄
Awesome video, man. You got me in the mood for another run. Poison + something else. I want that shield and those claws!
That shield honestly is a real revelation, can't believe how good the ash of war was! Happy to hear you enjoyed the video! 😃
nice video love the music choice, also very creative really thought people had already done like every challenge.
Yeah it's not easy to come up with new things, happy to hear you enjoyed the video 😊
i love these creative challenge ideas with a bunch of rules that make sense and make it interesting
Such a good video and underrated channel, keep up the good work!
My favourite minor dungeon is definitely cave of the forlorn. It just looks really unique and interesting even if the boss is meh
Fort nite
@@derrickmiles2153 offer pickle
At least the boss has a cool weapon, that's probably the best thing I can say about him
@@JKLeeds sucks that it does holy at such a late point in the game. I definitely have to use it in an ng+ playthrough
Cave of the Forlorn just makes it clear how much of a missed opportunity it was to not have the other Misbegotten bosses not use the legendary sword weapons they looted (Grafted Blade Greatsword for the Morne Castle one, Ruins Greatsword for the Redmane one.) Maybe they could give a couple of gravity stomp/shockwave type attacks to the latter, call it Misbegotten Redmane, and then make the former afflicted mildly with Frenzied Flame, call it a Misbegotten Revenger? I could easily see them being way less loathed if they were at all distinguishable from the basic enemy Leonine Misbegotten found as early in the later game as like, Leyndell.
Pretty unique video idea, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks man, glad you liked it 🙂
This video is actually pretty good for seeing these dungeons back to back.
Love the creativity, thanksfor fun content
You have my respect for doing North Caelid Dungeons with South Caelid set up
Yeah the difficulty jump between the two is quite something actually 😅😂
this is one of my favorite elden ring videos Thank you, You earned yourself a subscriber
Thanks man! Glad you liked it 😃
Your best video so far I think. Would love to see more content like this from you.
Thank you! I like making this stuff tbh, the only challenge really is it takes more time to make but there will for sure be more of it in the future.
Great video! Your commentary is well put together.
Thanks man! Glad you liked it😃
I feel like it would have been in the spirit of the run to be able to craft things from Cookbooks that you find specifically within a particular dungeon? Like, for instance, maybe you could take on Tombsward Catacombs using the Rancor Pots you get the recipe for inside, or use the Lightning Grease/Drawstring Lightning Grease you get the recipes for in Wyndham Catacombs on the Knight's Greatsword.
Spirit caller cave or Anyx Tunnel Yealough I'm predicting. Also this is the 3rd video of yours I've watched. Liking all of them so far so I'm subbed buddy. Looking forward to this video
Thanks for the sub my friend! Glad you're enjoying the content and welcome to the channel 😃
Ha! I totally called it with Spiritcaller. I was listening this video while shoveling snow and gathering firewood. It felt good to endure physical hardship and pain while listening to you describe your ordeal
It’s nice to see a different challenge video. To many of the same ER challenges, first time I’ve seen this one and it looks like a good challenge.
Yeah I wanted to come up with something that hadn't been done before. Not easy to do actually 😅
Amazing video honestly bravo!
Thanks man, glad you liked it!
This is an awesome idea! I think i might try a variation of this!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'd actually recommend the Legacy dungeon variant from my other video as it avoids things like beating those Godskins with a torch 😂😂
18:06 I would recommend giving the magma wyrm blade a try. I started using it on a strength/ faith build and it's actually quite good. The 2 handed heavy is a chop, and you can reliably use it to dodge attacks (or if you're me, get lucky and face tank less) because it lowers you're hitbox below a surprising number of attacks 23:40 if this is actually your first time trying magic in ER, I am so sorry it's Rock Blast 24:45 *THERES AN ACTUAL BOSS HERE?* 36:18 ah yes, Ornstein and Ornstein. They got rid of the slow guy 39:41 fun fact, there are *6* different godskin boss fights. 2 nobles, 2 apostles, both together in Faram Azula, and then 1 after another in spirit caller cave. Just why?
Favorite dungeon is Highroad cave, honestly looks amazing and 100% unique design with unique weapon in it. When i explored it on my first playthrough i was like "Wow, so there will be such an amazing dungeons here and not only catacombs" oh boy i was wrong. Top2 is Ruin Strewn Precipice as it felt like an actual tower climb and looked astonishing + new cool looking boss. Top3 Auriza Hero's Grave i had fun with knights + my favorite armor drops from them.
Algorythm has been working overtime delivering me good content from creators I haven’t seen before, nice video dude
Thank you my man, welcome to the channel!
You should definitely try a bows only run. I did one and its alot of fun, its very challenging at times and offers a unique play experience imo. By the end I maxed out my damage potential a little over 200 per shot which kinda sucks but its definitely fun
"Taking a shot whenever he says 'Crystal'!" 20:20: ok, time to call an ambulance.
The Ruin-Strewn Precipice is absolutely the best minor dungeon. It feels almost like a legacy dungeon, and then the payoff of getting to Altus (possibly) for the first time. Nothing beats that for me. Though Magma Wyrms that stand up are not very fun, but at least it's very unique if you haven't been exploring too much.
Cool bit about astel is that it's the type of beast, not the thing's name. The falling star beast is the larval stage, the things you fight in some of the underground areas that fling rocks at you are the pupal stage, and Astel is the adult stage. He's not meant to be a unique boss, but a rare and dangerous creature from the stars, beyond the lands between.
Rusted Anchor was my first playthrough weapon. It really gave me a new appreciation for the great hammer weapons, it's got an awesome moveset with decently quick attacks and does great poise damage. This paired with high strength and faith carried me all the way to Farum Azula where I ended up dual wielding Staff of the Avatar and the Rotten staff.
Great video!
Thank you 😊
This is a great idea. Can't believe I never thought of it
Now this is a challenge I had no heard and wished I thought of duing one of my playthrough
Much work was put into this video, and it must had been quiet a challenge to accomplish this run, so congrats for you sir, I hope you will earn more attention in time cause you deseve it.
Thanks friend 🙂
Just wanted to let you know you can actually just beeline for the magic snails in those dungeons
You can in the one with the crucible knights, not in the one with the Godskins. I also chose to kill the knight so I could test the weapon and ashes
Love the dual crucible knight fight. Probably my favorite dou fight in the entire game. They and dragons are the one fight I never feel bad about doing over and over again. (Though most of the dragons are way to weak to need re attempts)
really liked the idea for this run
Thanks man!
Imagine this is someone's first time seeing this game
Great video! Thank you
No, thank YOU for watching 😄
Great idea for a challenge!
I didn't realize the snowfields had that many dungeons in it. That place probably scarred me so bad I just ran through it as fast as I could
My favorite is the forlorn cave by far seeing the jellies through the floor and the golden order greatsword are just so cool to me
I recently discovered how great the black bow is on my primarily knife run. That thing with serpent arrows and the scorpion dagger thing melt enemies between the scarlet rot and toxic
I enjoyed the legacy trial one with the main bosses you did so now I'm checking this one out so yeah I probably will enjoy this
I hope that you do 🙂
@@JKLeeds just reached the end was nice cool seeing someone actually give the other weapons some attention
My new favourite thing is actually trying out new weapons. It's really given me a great appreciation for the flexibility and variety Elden Ring provides
Hey gamer cool challenge, for another nice chill run in the same vein, you could do a Gun Game, wherein you use any weapon, every time it drops, until you find another one. (You can obvi use a prenup graded version if a new one of the same kind used previously dropped) but otherwise great video very chill and cool!!
I'm gonna guess "frikkin Ordovis", out of the top of my head Honourable mention: The watchdog with the escort of like FOUR entire imps in the Impaler's Catacombs.... that's like in Weeping Peninsula, the cruelty of this troll is legendary
Cool challenge, good video
Glad you liked it!
Amazing commentary
did you know? theres a cemetery shade in the gelmir hero grave (not as a boss) it drops a curved sword that has low range but doubles its range on heavy attacks might have been cool to dual wield with the hammer even if not optimal
The Raptor Talons’ charged attacks are super cool: they have you first leap towards your opponent, then backflip away!
"Let's play a drinking game" Way ahead of you mate. I got a drink the moment I saw that your character had pink backhair 😮
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Dungeon Derp does seem to have that effect on people. My wife says he gives her nightmares
@@JKLeeds Loved the video btw. Beating both Godskins with just a torch was seriously impressive!
Thanks man! I wanted to cry when I got to that cave and realised there was no weapon 😥😅😂
My favorite is the one with the duo of crucible knights because I had fond memories of me doing an only parry no spirits/summons fight. Felt powerful when I won❤️
Now you’ve got me interested. Should try this on ng+ lol
Great video
Thanks man! Glad you liked it
28:15 So is no one gonna talk about how sick the synchronised stab was?
To be honest, I rate the Hero's Grave dungeons as a level above the rest of these. All of them felt memorable and challenging. The rest of these I mostly remember based on what items I can get there, most obviously the Smithing Stone Bell Bearings. As a side note, even though he gets reused for no reason, I really like this version of Astel compared to the other one. The coloring looks better, the difficulty is higher, and he has that crazy clone grab move that one-hit kills me on most of my playthroughs because I usually level Vigor last.
It's kind of wild how rich Limgrave is when it comes to these small dungeons. They get super samey as the game goes on but Murkwater has an unique look with the ingrown rock, highroad cave is just without peer in the entire game....
This was recommended to me by KZhead. Good stuff.
Thanks friend! 😄
Re: Golden Epitaph It's a solid sidearm/backup for skeleton-heavy areas and deathbirds and such. Low requirements so basically any character can just pick it up and level it up a bit. Otherwise, not particularly noteworthy. But the skill is an aura buff that increases damage against undead by 100%. You can one shot death birds with the basic holy pots if you stack enough buffs, including this one
In the war-dead catacombs you can actually farm the whole cleanrot gear as well as the radahn gear, but for some reason, the drop rate from the ghosts is ridiculousy small compared to the normal variant. I farmed the dudes for runes once and I actually got a single cleanrot helmet and a pair of gloves in like 30 minutes
Golden Epitaph really is a good weapon in specific circumstances. It doesn't just give you 10% damage, it also doubles your damage vs undead and is classified as an Aura Buff (similar to Golden Vow), so you can use it in tandem with Sacred Order or Sacred Blade (both of which also deal another 2x to undead) to do ludicrous damage. I also like using the Omen Cleaver for elemental builds because it has a higher affinity vs physical damage split than a lot of other weapons meaning you waste less damage.
Elden ring has no more cool challenge runs: this guy “ I think not” cool vid btw, loved it.
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it!
I wasn't prepared for the Aladdin music.
NO ONE is prepared for the Aladdin music 😂 Was actually one of the first video games I ever owned back on Sega Megadrive so always makes me nostalgic
I've never ever used glintstone scrap. Who knew it could do that. Thanks for showing it off.
Me neither before this actually! It's surprisingly good!
@@JKLeeds awesome to see stuff that often isn't used.
the war-dead catacombs is a late game dungeon, you're meant to do it at a similar time to farum. also the old altus tunnel and the altus tunnel have similar names because the old altus tunnel is the old one... they're also connected
man i learned about so many weapons i didn't even know existed, thanks
Me too funnily enough! Pretty much the sole reason I decided to do this run 🙂
You have creative vids I love it
Thanks, glad you like them 😊
The rusty anchor is super fun to use
I'm honestly more impressed with the patience you have to farm all of those weapons than you killing the bosses. Especially the stone club I've done that one before and that guy is tough to farm.
That was probably the worst tbh. Painful!!
"the range of this frost breast is pretty insane" is my new favorite line
surprised you hadn't used the cross naginata. That and a shield carried me through the entire game basically
anchor and pickaxe are actually used often in pvp because of thrust damage and therefore thrust counter damage, as well as having high base damage and good scaling
Need to try the Anchor, Pickaxe was very fun! Need to give that pairing with Spear Talisman a go
Cool run
Thanks dude 🙂
You could create a difficulty list of more standard challenge runs in different souls games. How difficult is a DS1 SL1 run, to a DS3 SL1 run? Then compare that to a no weapon upgrade run in the different games. It could be a good tool in getting hesitant people into trying different challenge runs.
My guess is the two burial watch dogs will be the hardest.
Hey, I'd like to see you do something similar to this, but I'd like to see you use what the boss uses or drops (though preferably both do you have more options)
Also fun fact, iirc the Miranda flower summons have predetermined summon points, instead of summoning near you(I'm no 100% sure, but its one of these mass summons with essentially unmoving summons) so that's a reason to use them, since you can summon them far away from you theoretically
Pretty sure they spawn on the little spikes people always say ground pound on
I sliced my thumb open while listening to this video. 10/10 would watch again.
😂😂😂 hope you're OK!
amazing vid
Thanks man!
I laughed when you mentioned still water cave in mn because I live like a mile away from there
that sums up my gripe with elden ring: always the same bosses in the same environments over... and over... and again
