    • Water depth on gladiator is 33”, which is the stock tire size on the Rubicon, Mojave is a little taller, but all your important electric things reside about ‘middle of the grill’….radiator fan and alternator. Then if you do manage to swamp it to the point where a snorkel keeps you from sucking in water, your battery and several fuse blocks are only ~ 1” different than the air intake hole the snorkel plugs into. Not hating, just saying, I crossed water a little over my 33s the other day, then looked under the hood at the water/mud lines, it was closer to the sparky and shocks bits than I’d prefer

It's shows on a business stand point but is still straightforward, you aren't afraid to say you dislike or wouldn't buy a 2k light bar or other products that aren't needed. My CJ is a never ending build that I started back in 2015 and I break out the Chip Foose rendering sketch pad every week tweaking the build. I'm picking up the VL75ProD and I love that slide. • Matt, thanks for taking the time to put this together. For you, I think this was the logical step up from Knuckles. Not so sold on the aux lights. Have heard some negative stories surrounding water infiltration, but you can’t beat the price. What I’m not so sold on is Cara’s Jeep. I know she wanted a Jeep and a Bronco, and, and, and. When you’re traveling full time it has to be about experiences not things, because you simply don’t have the ability to take everything with you.

    @sonnicman@sonnicman2 жыл бұрын
    • Hey! I do like having new tech. Not really here to sell anyone on anything. We just weren’t able to outfit the grand Cherokee with the armor it needed for us. The bronco, while being awesome, is a huge unknown for us when we both have experience with Jeeps. When we are on the road full time, I will need a vehicle that can 1) go to the remote places we plan to travel to and 2) allow an extra vehicle for when either Matt goes on trails and I have to stay back or when his Jeep has to have repairs. We don’t want to be stranded with no means of travel. So while, we won’t have the ability to take everything we own with us full time..another vehicle has always been a given.

  • You do a great job. I appreciate your honesty. I kind of cringed when I saw that slide out for the ICECO for the first time. It looked like it had a lot of side to side wiggle. Later in the video it looked like it was sagging. You said the manufacturer was a friend of yours. Are you sure you would recommend this product?

  • Great video and thank you. Although $88k is a ton of money, it was very "thoughtful". You could have easily added thousands of dollars to this build and been around $100k. We are going through our own Rubicon Overland build and trying to be "practical"; this video is helping us make some important trade-offs. Thanks again! Also, love the new Wrangler Xtreme - awesome!

  • And therein lies the beauty of what we do. We can all have the things we want on our vehicles just at different price points. It's great you get some things for free, so cool. But I like that you are also budget minded and don't just spend it to have the top of the line when it doesn't need to be. Yeah those Roam boxes are nice but the $20 plastic ones from Home Depot work well too. Well done video and thanks for your candor.

  • as for your total... just shy of 90k for as much truck as you have got... I am impressed. I was contemplating trading in my Tacoma for a jeep just because you can go to 35" tires with no fuss and there are some DEEP ruts on some of the trails around here but when I started crunching numbers... 70k for the Gladiator Rubicon diesel with all the right accessories plus big tires and new wheels, skids, bumpers, sliders, cage (guessed based on a JL cage as the JT cage is still in development), racks, recovery, not even getting into my camping gear I was soon looking at 120k+... I decided I was sticking with my Tacoma... 30k worth of parts on top of the $35k I spent on it and I SHOULD have it where I want it. I will admit jeeps are SLIGHTLY superior off roaders only in that they come from the factory able to handle larger tires than a Tacoma... Tire size being equal, I would say Jeep vs Taco... 50/50 Advantages and disadvantages... but price... My Taco wins. It does take significant mod to go to 35 in a Toy, and it takes an over the top (and over priced) suspension to ride 40s on a Taco. 285/75r17 is considered a great tire size by much of the overlanding community... but it is just barely adequate if you also want to do crawling on serious trails. If I had the money to blow on it... yeah... I might consider a diesel Gladiator... (I might wait for a 4xe Gladiator, but I expect those would run me 80k with all the right accessories, and I can not justify that on less than 100k/yr income.)

I did like the price of the front bumper not the rear. I was wondering why you wouldn't have gone with a 4 or 6 inch lift. You know better clearance.
