  • I retired from a Naval Shipyard that is in my local area. We had to run hundreds of feet of argon line and welding lead to our work area. We ran the gas straight from the argon manifold on the dock to the tig whip in our work area. We did not run argon through the machine solenoid valve, but instead straight from the flow meter to the tig whip using however much argon line that was needed. Every morning as we hooked up the gas, we would do a drop test by closing the inline valve at the tig whip and watching the ball in the flow meter to see if it falls all the way down to the bottom with the argon gas turned on, this would indicate no leaks. Even a very tiny leak will cause the ball to rise slightly.

  • I am so glad you posted this. My welds just would not come in until I bought one and checked . It needed to be 20scfh at the bottle to get 12scfh at the torch. as soon as I adjusted it my welds looked great.

  • We stripped the gas line down to the component parts to find the cause of low gas flow. It turned out to be one of the brass connections hadn’t been fully drilled through in manufacturing 1mm hole that should have been 4mm. Gas flow problem solved after drilling the mass produced fitting to the correct diameter.

  • Flow meters do not read gas 'pressure' they indicate flow......in cubic feet per hour. That's why its called a Flowmeter and not a Pressure gauge.

  • For years I lamented the fact that my weld beads were, always, gray, while yours were multicolored. I resolved myself to thinking it was your superior technique, resulting in the color difference. Then, I decided to use soapy spray to check my hoses and connections for leaks. Voila! None of my branching of hoses from different gases showed leaks, but the brass connection at the back of my tig machine was bubbling. It appeared to be tight, but I had to crank on it to stop the leak. Result... pretty, colored beads. BTW... I am reluctant to laud someone over another when they offer help videos, but you're the best.

  • Super informative, there a little bit more to the CFHs and gas than people think. Thanks! How are you liking that Typhoon? Got anything on it in the pipeline? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it - I'm right now trying to decide between it and the 255EXT and I know you've used the 255 extensively.

  • Dang dude. I found a gas leak about a month ago and explored a whole bunch of avenues to track it down. I did find a leak at the tank to flow meter connection using soapy water but something still does not seem right. I need to check the hose to torch connections, which I forgot to do! And I just ordered one of those torch flow meters to look for discrepencies. My Everlast is 8 years old and I use it almost daily, so maybe the flow meter is worn out? Not sure yet. Thanks for the tips!

  • At my work, I was doing some weldments on .065 aluminum going down to Antarctica that needed to be water tight, I tried everything to clean the material but I still got random porosity, it was never consistent except for at the end of the weld, I'd swirl and taper off but always porosity. The weld would be good, but couldn't pass my dye leak test. Any hints or tips?

  • This is a must do. Had a brand new rig and the regulator was only putting out 1/3 of what was shown. No leaks just a bad flow meter.

    • Its just pressure drop . Mine says 20cfh on my bottle and 12cfh on my gauge at the tig torch. if no leaks just set it at the tig torch and you will be all good. Its a game changer to have that gauge it will give you accurate gas flow/coverage every time.

    • @@valanshard2105 the one you ordered is lpm they do sell one that is more expensive that is scfm . I had to search to find one and that way you don't have to do conversion to get it to the correct gas setting. it was 25 dollars so more expensive but was a game changer.

      @anytimeDrumvideos@anytimeDrumvideos15 күн бұрын
    • I don't have the exact calculation, but there is always pressure drop through any length of tube. There can also be restrictions at fittings, gas solenoids, and the torch itself… The regulator at the bottle may correct. However, by the time the shielding gas gets to the end of the torch it's always going to be lower to some extent.
