I prefer to think that they are very adaptable. I'm sure that the initial weightlessness was probably shocking and terrifying, but I believe that once they calmed a bit, it was something totally novel and maybe exciting. I have much respect for most animals and their ability to adapt.

I would say the worst was the cat, she survived, but only to be killed by the humans that sent her, and they didn't even learn anything they didn't already know. Second was the first monkeys, the chimp that was electrocuted, all the animals who failed during reentry. I understand why they did the sending them, but not what they did to them afterwards. Like with Ham, why didn't they give him to someone to take care of, instead of a zoo, he should have gotten special treatment after all he did for us! And again about the cat, it's extra sad that she didn't even become well known for what she went through, though all the others sort of did, until people much later fought to make it happen. It seems cats always get treated worse then other animals, no matter what they do. Up until now I never knew any cat ever went into space, thanks to this video, now I know! Yes I am a cat person, I do love dogs too, and have 4 along with 2 cats, had 3, but while outside, not by my choice, a next door neighbor who says she hates cats, killed her with a shovel for being in her yard, my brother swears he heard her screaming and then saw the neighbor with a shovel that she then put in her garage. And then our cat was never seen again, even though she wasn't the type to run away. That's why I HATE people who seem to like to brag about hating cats and make a joke about it, even in stupid videos. Looking in the comments, I only found one other person who even mentioned Felicette the cat, everyone talking only about the others, especially the dogs, but not her, I guess she doesn't matter because she was a cat!
I agree with you that cats deserve better treatment overall. Even the stores like Walmart, Target, and pharmacies like Walgreens, CVS........their dog isle's are always bigger and more stocked with dog stuff than cat stuff. Walmart has about 2-3 isles dedicated to dog food, dog beds dog toys, dog leashes, dog dog dog dog ...........but have one side of one isle for cats. And yes, you are right about people making stupid (aka ""funny"") videos with cats than with dogs when clearly the cat is upset or frightened. People are disgusting when it comes to cats.

Agree! Cats always come last - like when researching diseases in pets and coming up with cures, it's on behalf of dogs; cat research and cures are far behind, yet statistically, there are more cats in homes as pets than dogs! I, too, am a "cat" person who loves dogs, yet it generally seems to hold true that "dog" people dislike - even hate cats. So many negative myths still exist about cats, and they're routinely regarded as vermin to be destroyed in some parts of the world. It's such a shame when it's clear to many of us - and a growing number of converts - that cats are actually not "assholes" but smart, loving, sentient, and wonderfully amusing beings. Cats are also capable, through their purr, of healing some of our human ailments and, if for no other reason they deserve so much more of our love and respect...
Treat cats better! They deserve just as much attention as dogs do! 🐈 🐱

Be Amazed got it spot on when he said- "Humans know what they are getting into, animals don't." If a person wants to take risks or even be reckless with their own life, fine, that is their choice and right to decide that for themselves, hell they can even be down right stupid with their own life if they want to be but don't have that right towards other lives. I have this issue with a friend, to put it honestly and simply- she over eats, by a lot, she knows the risks obesity brings but still has chosen to ignore those risks, fine, she has the right to make that choice towards her self but she does it with the dog as well and it drives me crazy, I don't feel she has the right to put that dog's life at risk, as its owner she has a duty of care towards the dog, she is supposed to love and protect it, not endanger it, there's many a time when the dog is telling that its had enough, its full but she doesn't respect that and pushes and pushes the dog to take the food, that dog has no idea of the risks involved but she does, so I feel its very irresponsible of her to do so, if she wants to put her life at risk, she can do that but it isn't fair or right to put that innocent dog life at risk. Its exactly the same with space programs, the animals have no idea whats involved or the risks involved, its wrong to play so fast and loose with their lives, they are precious lives too and they have the right to their life. I also see it like this, if someone put me in a dangerous situation, in a strange place, surrounded by strange things but also didn't tell me anything, gave me no information or anything and I had no clue as to what was going on, I would frankly start to feel scared and confused and stressed, I would consider it a very cruel thing to do to me. That's exactly how those animals must feel when humans put them in situations like that.
This video hurt my heart, specially Laika's story 💔 I couldn't finish watching 😢

There were bits that i was almost laughing. Not because it was funny what they did, but the absurdity of sheer amount of poor mice, and other creatures like Tortoises and other marine life and just the crazy amount of flies amoungst others! Utterly bonkers!!
Hopefully they can create robots or machines with the same primary vital functions as animals to study so there is no need for actual animals to participate.

I'm going to space one day.. I just get that feeling when I see anything space related.. I went on an airplane for the first time and I thought this is not close enough. I can just tangibly anticipate the journey you know like when you know your going on vacation... Yes I am stark raving mad but I don't see what that has to do with anything...

If u see this, imagine you are Laika. You don't know where you are going, why, and there is nothing fun to do. You just sit, and sit, and sit. Until you die. Oh and the room you are in is to hot and you just have to wait till death and you were just a street dog minding your own business and all the sudden people come up to you and are like: "YOUR GOIND TO SPACE AND NEVER COMING BACK!" It was to see how long a dog could survive in space. In a few minutes Laika died from overheating.
