Steve Carell is renowned for both his comedic talent, and timeless roles. However, it took him a long time to get there. Let's dive into how he got to where he is, and what obstacles stood in the way.

The thing that makes Steve Carell such a great actor to me is how he can act so genuine whether it is acting stupid, serious, angry or sad, the genuineness just makes him that much more loveable
He is genuinely scary in Fix Catcher. I've noticed that comedians are very good at playing disturbing roles, especially him as Dupont.
It was weird how I genuinely despised him in The Way Way Back. He’s usually so likable and funny but he was able to morph into this mean almost evil man
Absolutely right. I’d say the same goes for Danny DeVito
Stupid - Anchorman Serious - Big Short Awkward/funny - 40 year old virgin He’s really a Jack of all trades
Little miss sunshine
I just love Steve Carrell. He's one of the most unproblematic celebrities ever. I think him rising to fame much later in his life has kept him humble. He deserves everything he's ever achieved. Love ya, Michael Scott/Gru
Stupid word
You can’t help but love Steve Carrel.
Little missunshine is crazy good
And he was so good in that movie, too!
His performances in the Big Short and the Morning Show, coupled with the big comedy hits… Steve is pure magic
Yeah his Big Short character was memorable. He was good in that movie.
I love Steve Carell he is such a great actor. He was hilarious and so loveable in The Office, Anchorman, and Despicable me. Michael Scott is still my favorite character in TV history. He is truly a legend in my book.
Steve Carell is a comedic genius, there's no question about it.
I remember the exact moment I realized he was more than just the comic relief, and that was when he played Trent in ‘The way way back’
And the father in Beautiful Boy and the uncle in Little Miss Sunshine
I love Steve Carrell! The Office is me and my husband’s favorite show ever. His range from that to Little Miss Sunshine and Fox Catcher is incredible.
Little Miss Sunshine is incredible and he knocks it out of the park in that. Truly well played drama and effortless comedy.
Steve Carrell was so good at The Big Short that I forgot Brad Pitt was in it :)
Deserved abo, you made me cry in 10 minutes talking about a humble person playing the funny every-man character until he became a story lead, just lovely ❤
can't believe they didn't mention evan almighty ... love that film : ) - his scenes in the mirror trying to shave are genius
well, they 'sort of' did. Evan Almighty is a spin-off of Bruce Almighty. They showed him and Jim Carrey.
Just found this channel, insane production value. Will be going on a Deep dive now
happy to hear it :D
Congrats on making it to the KZhead recommendations
Steve Carell is seriously one of the best actors. His range is endless and he disappears into every role he plays. Plus, he is one of the nicest people on the planet
Loving what you are putting out Renzy. You seem to deliver your content in a way that I can connect to and feels personal.
that's super kind of you, thank you for the support!!
Foxcatcher is a phenomenal film. I saw it twice in the theater and I was not only enraptured by the story, but by Carell’s performance. To me, he gave the best performance that year and I wanted to see him win the Academy Award, even though I knew it would be a long shot. It’s still amazing to think of how he began his career and to see how diverse he’s become. While him not getting the Oscar wasn’t a major surprise, it’s defiantly surprising how he never won an Emmy for The Office, not even for his final episode on the show, which I’d argue is his best performance on the show. Thank you for talking about Steve Carell, he’s a fantastic actor that is deserving of the success he’s received. Keep up the great work and take care!
My favourite aspect of Carrel's career is how he's played so many "everyman" type characters but none of them feel like the same guy. On paper Cal in Crazy, Stupid, Love is the same as Dodge in Seeking A Friend For The End of the World, but there's mannerisms and nuances which help them feel entirely distinct. It's something other comedically rooted actors often can't nail, where their roles are often the same charisma with different names, but no two Carrell performances ever feel like the same guy. I've loved and revered this man's work since I was a teenager studying acting and improv, and have long believed he's one of the greatest to ever do it. He's a man who's output we should treasure while he's still with us. This was a great video highlighting his rise to the screen and I really enjoyed watching it.
The Way Way Back has one of my favorite Carell performances. He's such a believable dirtbag, I feel like I've met him before several times. Solid writeup, always wondered where Steve was earlier in his life
Steve Carrell is a timeless masterpiece of comedic freedom that ranges from the the Appalachians to the Rockies. ❤
His story makes me think that I can actually achieve my dreams. I love him❤
I love the soft music over prison mike
This is such an interesting and inspirational story! I have so much more respect for the work he’s done and the hard work it takes to get there! Never give up! Never quit!
Thank you so much. Just scoped your page. Love that it revolves around practical and responsible self defense. Happy to have you here!
Such a great video and such well time spent! Thank you Renzy, please keep on making these.
This is one of my favourite youtube videos. your analysis was so concise and to the point.
You did a great job on this video, Renzy. I love Steve Carell, he's a very good and charismatic actor and I haven't even seen The Office.
Steve’s performance in Foxcatcher was mind blowing and quite chilling. Def worth the watch.
That was beautiful. Nicely done.
Amazing video. Love how your videos are packed with detailed, interesting, and educational content without stretching things out for the sake of having longer videos. So many other channels in your space will make videos 45 minutes+ that could easily have been 10 minutes.
I often think about the fact that when the daily show had its best cast I didn’t appreciate it because I thought they would air for another decade. Looking back it really was THAT cast. ❤
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I also couldn’t help noticing that every single one of them was white, which means that cast could never exist today 🤷♂️
@@therainman7777 I agree to an extent but actually the daily show wound up introducing me to some pretty awesome POC comedians like Aasif Mandi, Larry Whitmore and Jessica Williams. And most of them came up around the same time or with Stewart.
@@TheDame Yeah I’m not saying anything against any of that, just pointing out that it would never fly nowadays and we would’ve therefore been deprived of this all-time great cast.
@@therainman7777 100 percent true my friend 😂😂😂
Another great video, man! The flow and feel of your videos is just so fun and intriguing to keep watching even if i'm not too much into the subject. Keep up the good work!
this video is so well done. I hope he sees this!!!!
Great video! I think you forgot to mention his great part in Little Miss Sunshine a movie that had great success critics and audience alike. He was praised for his part as a depressed man finding happiness again.
I love your channel dude! keep this up!
2:57 That Daily Show cast was absolutely stacked with comedic genius plus Mo Rocca
Hey man, great video. Love how you take relevant clips to allow Steve himself to tell the story as much as possible. New subscriber here 👍
He’s my favourite Hollywood actor! BY FAR!
Great video! I wish you had name dropped The Way Way Back when talking about his pivot into deeper roles. One of my favorite movies and he killed his role in it
This was such a good video, so so good please make more mate
I rarely click subscribe in the first few minutes of a video of a creator I’ve never heard of. Great video!
Amazing job bro. I love your channel.
You’re videos are absolutely amazing, glad I get to be here to see you blow up
happy to have you here :)
top example of hard work
Always a good night when renzy uploads
thank you, much love :D
Beautiful
Hope your channel has a come up story like Steve Carell cuz u deserve like a million subscribers with this quality great work !
Beautiful Boy is amazinggg, Timothée and Steve are superb
Incredible script. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for your time
Great video man
Hey man, incredible video, the fact that it's the top video on my recommended!!! You got this homie good job, this crushed!
Ur the man, Joe! Thank u for the kind words 🙏🏼
Great video!! Carell will go down as a comedy legend
great video, i hope you keep being as successful as your last video, you deserve it !
Steve has been around for so much of my life that I think he's often underrated as a hollywood heavyweight, but crazy stupid love, the big short, and 40 year old virgin are all easily top 5 movies for me across 3 completely different comedic genres and it speaks to his acting chops he had an instrumental role in all 3 (also interesting gosling wound up in two and in my other top 5 being nice guys)
He's one of a few comedians who could constantly tickle my funny bones.
Steve taught me walking when I was 28 years old. Thank you Steve. Thank you very walk!
Steve Carell is the only actor I can watch over and over again without getting tired once.. I've probably rewatch the office 5-6 times.. rewatch most of his movies at least 2-3 times, anytime I want to get a quick laugh or watch a movie I know I wont be disappointed I put on this man :)
good job with these videos
I wish this video was longer 🥲❤ Please do more comedians/comedic actors! 😁
Great video, just missed a mention of his dramatic support role from Little miss sunshine, that what was opening my eyes that he could do more than comedic roles
When this popped up in my feed, I just wanted to take a minute and tell you I’ve been loving your videos! I found you a few weeks ago, and I’ve enjoyed watching a whole lot of your things. Excited to be a new-ish subscriber :-)
That's incredibly kind of you. Happy to have you here :D
Awesome video 👍
I don’t think I’ve hated a character more than him in the way way back! He’s so good!!! Great actor!
The improv thing makes that one episode of the office even funnier now knowing he's pretty good at it 😂
Great essay!
steve carells my favourite actor. i love his comedies, i love his dramas. he's perfect
Congrats to him staying true to himself as well. The guy didnt let fame destroy himself or his family. That definitely isnt easy considering how well known he is
In my top 5 actors. Drama. Comedy. Can do everything as good as any!
damn this video was great but the message at the end was unexpected well done
It's funny how Evan Baxter became the Anchorman who was always a 40-Year Old Virgin that Got Smart during Date Night and thought about Despicable Me while having to attend a Dinner for Schmuks and got some Crazy, Stupid Love to be a Leading Man.
My favorite scene with him is in the office when he figured out the company wanted to buy his company. The “oh.. ohh” :3
Going into this video I thought this would be a meh at best mini talk about how Steve made his way to the top with no special or indepth telling. But instead I just found myself memsmerized and watching the whole video with deep thinking in it. The way you are able to easily tell the story with great details, simple phrasing and all in short 10 minute video? I know I might just be yapping at nothing but this is one of the few v ideos I really fucking love on youtube, a sub like and notifications on
Thank you so much for the kind words :) ❤️
This channel so underrated, i thought it had 2 million subscriber
His mini-series the Patient rocked me to my core.
Ahh I love this deep dive into Steve Carell’s career!! I just want to point out something though. When Steve was hired for Little Miss Sunshine, The Office and The 40-Year Old Virgin hadn’t come out yet. At that point he was a relatively unknown actor. The executives wanted to hire Bill Murray to play Frank because he had name credit and Steve didn’t. I believe Steve was the perfect choice for that role, I’m glad they didn’t cast based on name.
Office Mike made the office once he left it wasn't the same
Yeah he and jim pam and dwight were the bread and butter of the show
Amazing
i think he's one of the best actors when it comes to serious roles
Great channel making a video on one of the best actors. 🎉 I want to see Carrell in a Tarantino movie.
Just finished: fantastic editing and writing. Great music choices
thank you for the kind words!
This is why I’ve rewatched the entire office 12 times +
Damn what a great video, I’ve been trying to find that piano tune at the end licensed by Motion Array but can’t seem to find the right match
great work. +1 sub
Good video
He was soo good in The Patient
Renzy, your comment sections are so wholesome, and I have to believe that's a reflection on you. You give out such wholesome vibes, lol. I love your videos, but here's a small critique: don't be afraid to use longer clips to illustrate your points - let the clips breathe. Fans of the person won't mind. ✌
Some may not mind but unfortunately KZhead’s copyright system might, which I try to be overly cautious about 😅 I appreciate the kind words!!
@@Renzy_YT That's a good point, but I think a good rule of thumb is that if the video is on KZhead (like an interview or behind-the-scenes clip), you don't have to worry too much about the copyright. There are even channels that react to entire episodes of copyrighted shows (clipped up to avoid showing the whole thing on screen), so I think what you do falls safely within the bounds of fair use. I just found your channel and am currently binging all your videos 😅. Keep up the good work! And don't be afraid to consider a Patreon - it can help channels like yours that make high-effort, low-frequency videos.
@@razzle_dazzle I think I've just heard enough horror stories regarding the algo that I'd prefer to be cautious even at the expense of the product. and I will eventually! I don't really have any ideas outside of a few tips and pointers, but hopefully in the coming months. I also appreciate the binge :D it's the highest compliment you can give a youtuber, imo
me when blessed what a well made film
He was great in the first season of The Morning Show
You GOTTA do Paul Rudd, kinda dude intrigues me
Hit my recommended, your channel about to pop off. Great Video, could you help me remember the name of the Piano piece you have used?
The fact that no one is mentioning Get Smart is criminal. He was absolutely phenomenal in that movie.
If that's the spy movie, I still quote "the element of surPRAH" ALL THE TIME
@@l.v.cromwell9643 That's the one!
One of Steve carrells best movies is the way way back. Find some time to watch it
Steve Carell is so humble that he'll write entire KZhead scripts using his unique insights and give them to channels without taking any credit. Comments, too.
Decent vid
Anybody know the name of the piano tune playing at the 3 minute mark?
The Patient was on another level.
I wouldn’t hate a deeper dive
What's the piano theme in the background?
OMG OMG OMG! I have seen this and watch this video with Yeti Smoke and Black Peter Griffin on KZhead and it was awesome! I love Steve Carell, The Office, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Despicable Me! I also love the Michael Scott and Gru! This might be the greatest video of all time! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What is the name of the song that plays in the background?
What is that song you were playing in the background at the end?
New Renzy Dropped Rahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
