Greetings from Brazil and thanks for sharing! I made my first repair yesterday, using stapler clips for anchoring a broken fan base. But I have 2 suggestions: 1) Please emphasize that the glue must have low (or very low) viscosity; 2) Please add a warning that melting plastic can generate toxic, asphyxiants (such as carbon monoxide), or even poisonous substances (such as cyanide), depending on its composition.
Hello! thanks for your comment. Wish you all the best!

6/15 tip for fixing a broken gear totally ROCKS! Love it! This tips video would be even better if you identified what type of plastic each was made from and which mix you use for which kind of plastic. That would put this video over the top as best plastics repair video!
We used to use a hot air plastic repair gun (not homemade) to repair cracks in polypropylene. I suspect that you can use any thermoplastic to repair others of the same kind. These are excellent ideas. If you can, experiment with different ideas. Then use the best on the real job. Notice that the video uses mostly baking soda or heating the plastic using the same plastic for fill. Baking soda seems to work better than other materials on plastic. I haven't had much luck with graphite but haven't tried too hard.
Thank you! Cheers!
the gear wheel probably was made from polyoxymethylene.
I hear pure dryer lint (with no softener contamination) is the bee's knees when used appropriately
The gear idea is ingenious, awesome all the way 🤙🏼

As a rc enthusiast I must say thank you for all the great ideas since 90% of the breakage I deal with are plastic ❤
fyi heating nylon (most strong parts of flexible plastic in RC) makes it very brittle! Do not try and repair your RC chassis with the metal hoop melted in shown here. I've looked into it at length and there's no real feasible way to "repair" broken nylon plastic parts, the only solvents that come close are dangerous and not easily available to the public and I'm unsure how well they'd work for a repair. The best "fix" for broken nylon parts is to use metal or other plastic to make a "brace" of sorts with a flexible glue around the broken area, or by drilling new attachment points to add the brace. Basically Nylon doesn't "wet" with glue and is a nightmare to glue even in industrial assembly when they have perfect conditions. It's also flexible which is a nightmare as a lot of glues are not!
@@trif55 thank you for the info every bit of knowledge gained is a benefit 👍
@@tifflynn2215 I went back down this rabbit hole a bit, it looks like I was using Nylon 6.6 so maybe Nylon 6 doesn't embrittle as much with heat?
Thanks for sharing!

Those are great tips, I have been repairing things for 50 years and I still learned stuff from you. I use more standard epoxy for strength, again strenghting it with metal screws etc., and use bluetak to mould it. My other thing to use to strenghten the joint is fibre glass tape. You are officially a "Fix-it fairy". To explain this, other people go off and do mundain things, and when they come back, it is all repaired, and they are amazed.😮

Excellent tips and tricks! I learned some new tricks! Instead of staples I suppose you could use small washers. Also, making your own wire staple from wrapping a wire around a screw is brilliant! Taking a piece of copper tubing and then making it fit into the soldering tool and then being able to push a cable tie through is brilliant! WOW!

Making essentially an epoxy or plastic adhesive using ACETONE to break down the polystyrene (cd case) was one of the best things I've ever learned. Being able to make your own epoxy/adhesive for plastics is just freaking awesome. 2 questions though... How strong is the hold? I am not using it for any life critical objects but still want to know if itll hold/bond for a good period of time or is this just like a band aid fix? How long does the mixture stay as a grl before hardening?
I like the gear repair idea a lot. Creating a mold of good teeth out of wax. Clever but simple to implement. Kudos.
Glad you liked it!

I've used soldering iron to press in staple-gun staples to bridge cracks a couple times, though one of my fave methods is putting plastic cable ties into a glue gun and using it just like a glue, or filling in holes!

Plastic zip ties into a hot glue gun? Wouldn't that ruin the glue gun??
😅😅😅I tried it and the plastic strap didn't melt
His glue gun must be like furnace 😅
@@Cloony4u It does have temperature control, but really you just have to wait for the glue gun to get up to full temperature before doing so, as the plastic does have a slightly higher melting temp than the glue sticks!

Some techniques I haven't seen before, particularly the use of acetone to create a liquid patch. The baking soda/superglue trick I knew from Marty's Matchbox Makeovers. Adding reinforcing metal I've seen before on Toy Polloi. One technique he often uses is to sculpt missing material out of epoxy putty. He also custom builds parts out of styreen sheets and lego.
Thanks so much for watching our video. Wish you all the best
The acetone trick is commonly used for filling cracks in 3d printed parts. The multiple methods for reinforcing plastic welds with wire, screen etc is great and solves an age old problem I’ve had with weak repairs. Great video

Adding reinforcement is necessary as when melting the plastic for repairs, the carbon content increases making the repair area more brittle. Spot heating the area with concentrated heat VERY careful to not deform the piece and then so the repair can help, but is not always feasible.

Hello! Welcome to Creation Holic channel! I am glad you like this ideas. Wishing you all good things!
Better than most. Superglue based repairs are marginal at best. It does not truly bond. It's easy, but not really that good. Low strength. Most of the thermal repairs are good but using wire ties as filler is most often going to be the wrong type plastic use the parent material scrap and shavings instead, That will be compatible, other materials may not be. Better to get a real adjustable plastic welder. Thermal is almost always best to retain strength and it can be reinforced, Solvent based repair using acetone may be ok, buy solvent based glues are usually better
Thank you for sharing your feedback . Have a good day!
