Javier Bardem (“Being the Ricardos,” “Dune”), Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Power of the Dog,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home”), Peter Dinklage (“Cyrano”), Oscar Isaac (“The Card Counter,” “Dune”), Andrew Garfield (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” “Tick, Tick … Boom!”) and Jared Leto (“House of Gucci”’) join L.A. Times TV & Film writer Michael Ordoña for the L.A. Times Envelope Actors Roundtable.

I don´t know... I like Andrew Garfield, but I can think of at least 15 different actors who deserve an Oscar way more than he does (the first to come to mind is Willem Dafoe). Andrew still has DECADES ahead of him (and countless roles) to win an Oscar.
@@gabrielp9646 Dafoe, if anything, would be supporting actor this year. Age shouldn’t be a reason to not give someone an Oscar. He has already gotten a nomination for Hacksaw Ridge and gotten critical acclaim for The Social Network. And the fact that he’s already won the Golden Globe this year is a lock for a nomination. And career wise there are actors who are overdue but Oscars are not career awards, they are single movie awards (or single movie awards backed up by a great career, which is usually the case). Garfield carries Tick Tick Boom, he is the movie. There may be 15+ actors who deserve it more, but not 15+ actors who deserve it more AND have a performance to compete with this year. That being said, I don’t think Garfield is winning. Will Smith is one of those actors who has the career and the movie to compete with in King Richard. But Garfield is top 3 this year with Smith and Cumberbatch.

Andrew Garfield has depth, a quality of old movie stars. Everytime he talks about a character he dives so damn deep that he draws you to them. He makes you really want to watch his films.

I found it strange that Benedict was the only one who had heard Thirty Seconds to Mars. I mean, seriously. Jared and Shannon Leto, what a team they are. Love them. All the gentlemen are fantastic actors.

Will smith won this year for that. if you look at the history of oscars best actors and the golden globes, you'll see that the oscars best actor was always from the list of nominees of the golden globe best actor in a motion picture drama (not musical or comedy) example: 2015 gg motion pic drama: leo dicaprio 2016 oscars: leo dicaprio 2018 gg motion pic drama: rami malek 2019 oscars: rami malek 2019 gg motion pic drama: Joaquin Phoenix 2020 oscars: Joaquin Phoenix i agree he was amazing in portraying jon and a great actor. he has tons of other amazing movies he did too, not just tick tick boom. i'm sure his oscar will come one day, but not this year teens are crazy and i know from first hand experience. when you're a teen you don't realize how annoying you are but when you grow up you realize ... lol

You're right. And all 5 of them appeared in Marvel movies. One has appeared in both Marvel and DC while one has contributed to 2 distinct Marvel characters!

@@codyhoskins1319 And Oscar Isaac has played 3 Marvel characters, or even 4 or 5 depending on how you count his characters in Moon Knight. Apocalypse in X-Men Apocalypse Spider Man 99 in Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel coming out later this year. Moon Knight and all the characters that go with that - Marc, Steven, and probably at least one more - in Moon Knight.
in power of the dog, cumberbatch did such an amazing job on a character diametrically opposite anything i've seen him in before, but all these performances were great...
My favorite was Benedict Cumberbatch ... Hope an oscar finds its way to him on awards night.
Anyone else find it incredibly funny how nearly every actor on this roundtable play Marvel characters? Marvel has so many incredible, top-notch actors playing their characters. If you include Morbius despite it not being in the MCU, the only one not in the MCU is Javier Bardem.

the fact that javier bardem is an Spanish actor and he's successful in american films AND HE'S IN THE SAME INTERVIEW WHIT BENEDICT AND ANDREW makes me feel so proud of my country and a very happy marvel fan
So glad to see more of Peter Dinklage, he was great in "I care". he was so awesome opposed Rosamund Pike. and Barden and Isaac are just a joy to listen to them tell stories, they have such a presence.
I found Benedict’s Comfortably Numb performance like two weeks ago and immediately became obsessed! Love that he briefly talked about this here and how nerve wrecking it was. He did a fantastic job in my opinion. Also psst but he did sing in the movie August: Osage County 😋

Loved this. They all seem like great guys and, obviously, they're all so freaking talented.
Seriously, Benedict Cumberbatch has phenomenal performances in new and old ventures. I knew he was a great actor. I just never imagined he’s that phenomenal.
My great respect for all of them, they all are incredibly good actors, but all my love belongs to Oscar Isaac. It must be considered that his role in ,,The card counter" is completely unusual, very hard to play, and he did it more than perfect. There are mostly casino scenes during the whole movie, and in different circumustances I would say it is boring. But Oscar played the role so masterfully , and brought the whole movie alone, that it is amazing .
Great "roundtable" with talented actors that bring so much joy and a lot to think of their acting characters plots.

The genius Jodi Foster once said that to act well, one must speak very quietly and think very loudly. NO ONE does this more brilliantly than Peter Dinklage, in any genre.

The fact that Peter Dinklage likes the national puts a smile on my face. They are from Cincinnati Ohio not too far away from me and they are absolutely amazing at heartbreak songs

Javier and Nicole were too old for these parts. Desi was younger than Lucy and they were in their late 30’s when they started the show ; Nicole and Javier are both in their 50’s. Nicole looks awful with all her work and did not capture Lucy at all. I started watching I Love Lucy as a child and still watch it. 💚🤷🏿♀️
