Pipistrel Sinus full flight review video.
A few weeks ago we reviewed this aircraft. The Sinus is a light sport aircraft produced by Pipistrel, and it's one of their earliest model airplanes.
This is a motorglider with an 80 hp engine attached. Expect to fly a well balanced airplanes with cruises speeds north of 100kts and economical fuel burn of only 2.5 gallons per hour.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed your video Mike! I have to say that it's people like you that make America great! You came here from Lagos, Nigeria and you are living your dream. You have inspired me to work towards my pilot license, thank you for that! I can't wait to see your progress on your build.

  • Love this plane. If you get a Pipistrel Sinus Max, you have almost 590 lbs of useful load depending on equipment. It’s pretty amazing with a 27:1 glide ratio. It’s fun to climb to 5000 and shut the motor off.

  • Had the chance to talk to the factory rep at Sun n Fun. He and his wife flew over 7 hours non-stop to the south Caribbean. He said he beat the big planes because they had to stop for fuel. I would want the convertible wingtip option. Gets your storage width down to 32 feet. And it still glides well.

  • MIKE... This is the airplane you should be saving for. It is less than half the price of the Sling, it comes almost fully factory assembled which saves you hours and trips to and from the build site, (You mount the wings and removable wing extensions and tips), it comes rigged for silent running, it gets outstanding fuel economy, maintenance costs are low, it is aerobatic by nature, (get the tail drager), which makes this airplane more fun to fly and it is kind of pretty especially in the tail drager version. The only down side for you "MAY BE" the lack of the two rear seats. Other than that, this bird has everything going for it including the simple and inexpensive I-Pad nav system. You could have your own great new airplane in half the time!

    • You have just read my mind, i cant stop watching Sinus Flex videos, they are awesome gliders. Add tail dragger big 21" tundra tires and they are also a bush plane. Fantastic! Buy the Sinus Max (590lbs load) with parachute, 26 gallon tanks, MH oxygen system, Dynon avionics and you cant be disappointed flying more than 1000 nautical miles in total safety and pleasure. Thats my dream plane.

  • another advantage of the Pipestrel motor gliders is that you can fly them with just a glider pilot's license, which is the easiest to get ... just 10 hours of instruction time required, no medical, and fewer limitations than the sport pilot license. The Pipestrel Sinus Flex has removeable wing tips, which come off in 5 minutes, which makes it easy to store in almost any hanger.

  • Mike, great video, as always! I was thinking of getting one of these. To offset some of the costs I was thinking of doing some aerial photography. With so many people using drones, is aerial photography a viable option? With it being an LSA, ferrying passengers/stuff or sightseeing tours are out. How about any other ways to offset the costs?

  • We t for a flight in one a few years back. I had to ask the owner which u did t cover here is “ what is negative flaps”. Ha ha that was the first time of ever seen them. Great plane for sure. But my 32’w barn is a no go for that long set of flappers 😁

    @golfbravowhiskey8669@golfbravowhiskey86694 жыл бұрын
    • Most flapped gliders have the ability to negative (reflex) the flaps slightly. This aids in high speed flight by reducing lift and drag to be more efficient, Then you lower flaps (positive) when in slow thermal flight or the landing pattern. My glider has 2 negative detents (and 3 positive) for different airspeed ranges. Kind of like shifting a car to be in the correct flap setting (gear) for airspeed .

    @eugenelayton5231@eugenelayton52312 жыл бұрын
    • Nope All you have to do is get a motor endorsement and you’re set to go and go flying all you want can you have more ability to go higher altitude possibly fly at night if it’s a IFR rated more than LSA rated airplanes

      @lewisbence1577@lewisbence15772 жыл бұрын

  • So is this an LSA or a glider? What certificate do I need to fly it?

    @chriskroeker1889@chriskroeker18894 жыл бұрын
    • As far as I know, you need a glider rating to fly this aircraft. A glider rated pilot can fly this with just a log book sign off by an instructor even without a SEL or Light Sport license.

      @glider1232@glider12324 жыл бұрын
    • This is classified as a light sport glider. You can fly it with an LSA rating OR with a glider rating and self launch endorsement. Which rating you use will determine the restrictions you have I.e. a sport pilot has the typical lsa altitude limit, but a glider pilot does not.

    • @@mojogrip Mike, Other than the fact that I am interested in your take on the idea of your purchasing the Sinus as opposed to the Sling, the answer is NO, I don't have a "specific" question like... how long have you been flying or what is your favorite food?

      @tribulationprepper787@tribulationprepper7874 жыл бұрын
    • Lol well I'll still answer those. I started my flight journey in 2015, di I've been flying for 4 years. Favorite food I'd probably rice or anything with 😂

      @mojogrip@mojogrip4 жыл бұрын
    • @@mojogrip I am with you on the rice! Basmati of course. But how about your thoughts on the Sinus as opposed to the Sling which I wrote of in my original comment. So here is a valid question... Would you consider switching your airplane preference from the Sling to the Sinus and if so why and if not, why not. This is a fair enough question from a potential backer who sincerely wants to know if you have given his question any real thought. I am sure that other of your subs would like an answer as well given the financial investments you are seeking. Thanks

  • The downside of this aircraft is the same as any other LSA: price. At $100k-$110k, you're into this plane for four times what a mid-time 150 goes for. I'll never understand why regulators allowed this to happen.
