Otter+Pop Symmetry Series vs Loopy - Which is BETTER? iPhone XR Case Comparison

Are you looking for the best one-handed usage product for your iPhone? (Or any phone for that matter?) Well, you’ll definitely need either the Otter+Pop or the Loopy case.
Here’s 7 differences that will help you answer the question: Which one is best for you?
For us, difference #3, which deals with ease of use wins us over for the Loopy. BUT I can see difference #5 being the big one for people who drive a lot.
#1 Otter+Pop is better as a stand
The finger loop on the Loopy case also acts as a stand but it’s a bit lower so the angle isn’t as conducive for viewing when sitting down. So if you’re a chronic burrito eater while watching Brooklyn 99, you might want the Otter-pop.
#2 Qi-charging works a tiny bit better with the Otter+Pop
You can easily place the Otter-Pop down on a Qi-charger and it will start charging. With the Loopy case, you have to make sure the band is at the right angle or else it ~might not work. Now from a Qi-charging perspective, this shouldn’t be a deal breaker because it’s such a minor thing.
Also, Qi-charging from my perspective sucks, especially when you compare it to fast charging on the newer devices.
#3 The Phone is easier to use in the Loopy
From our perspective, being able to scoop and go with the Loopy is much better than the process of popping the Pop Socket and then grabbing. The extra second may not be an issue for most people but it is noticeable if you’re comparing the two products together.
In general, there is one trick with the Loopy that makes your iPhone easier to use over the Otter-pop and that’s the ability to flip your iPhone in your hand. With the Loopy case, you can easily free up your phone hand so that you can do something else and the immediately go back to using your phone.
The Otter+Pop can’t do that. And this feature is extremely useful if you’re carrying your kid, when you’re pushing a grocery cart and want your list handy,
#4 The Loopy case isn’t as “hip” as the Pop Socket
Now how do make this section hip…
The Pop Socket is almost like a cultural phenomenon in my perspective. Why? Because so many people on Instagram have Pop Sockets. And Pop Sockets come in a variety of different colors. And designs. And they offer custom prints if you’re really into that.
The Loopy case has a ton of different designs but you can’t just take it off and then put a different one on. Loopy has different bands but it’s not the same as one with, say, donuts.
#5 The Otter+Pop works better in the car
This might be a deal breaker when it comes to the Loopy case. It’s tough to use the case in the car. Most of the car mounts that I have, and I’ve used a ton over the years, have a hard time compensating for the extra thickness of the band on the back of the Loopy case. The Otter+Pop is better with 3rd Party mounts or you could spend the extra few bucks and get the actual PopSocket Mount.
So if you spend a lot of time driving, well, you’ll probably lean more towards the Otter-pop.
#6 The iPhone is easier to carry around with the Loopy
Now the benefit of the Otter+Pop over a regular Pop Socket is that the Otter+Pop tries to take into account the bulge of the PopSocket which is great BUT part of the pop socket still sticks out a bit which means it will get caught on stuff. Mostly on pockets. Which sucks since iPhones and pockets go hand in hand.
Now despite looking like it would get caught on everything, the loop is pliable enough that it doesn’t.
#7 The Loopy is going to be tougher. And safer.
First of all, the Loopy doesn’t slide around. The Otter+Pop will but that will slightly change based on whatever socket you use. Now second of all, when your finger is in the loop on the Loopy case, your iPhone isn’t going anywhere. With the Otter+Pop, there’s still a chance it might fall out of your hand. It’s lower than a normal case BUT doesn’t come close to the Loopy.
But is the Loopy as tough as the Otter+Pop? It’s as tough, if not tougher. If you get the Loopy Original, it’s going to give you 4ft worth of drop protection. With the Max, it’s going to give you 6ft.
With the Otter+Pop and every other Otterbox case, it’s certified to Otterbox’s own drop certification. Which doesn’t have an explicit drop height. At a minimum, the Otter+Pop is going to offer 4ft worth of drop protection from my perspective. Which is 2ft shorter than the Loopy Max.

  • I love my Loopycase! It makes my Xs max easier to use since I have small hands and fingers. I like that the loop is pliable compared to the otterpop. I bought an otterpop but I had to return it because it wasn't comfortable in my hand. A tip I learned for watching videos with the loopy is to place the loop on something like a small book or the edge of a keyboard it makes the angle alot better!

  • i’ve purchased both the loopy case & flolab screen protector based solely off of your reviews. thanks so much! also, i’ve figured out a temporary relief to the “car mount problem” for the loopy case. before mine, i had purchased a torras magnetic phone holder and used their magnetic case. now i no longer have that, what i do now is just loop my loopy case right onto the phone holder and it holds the phone PERFECT horizontally. been working like that for me!

I was considering getting a used X vs the XR and was leaning towards the X until I saw your vid and realized there's differences when it came to gaming on the screens. None of this is reflected on all the stat sites on the internet. Anyways, thanks for the content every weekend!

  • Have you ever tried or reviewed the Prop Tart from Smartish? I’ve been exploring your channel for the last month while researching my upgrade from Apple 6 to Apple 12 Pro Max; huge switch, I know, but I’m definitely up for the change! Thanks to your reviews, I’ve decided on the phone & the FloLab Anti-microbial Screen Protector, but still stuck on choosing the case?!? I use a wheelchair, so something durable & tough; less easy to drop from wheelchair height, which made me think of loopy, then i saw the Prop Tart, and thought it was something that you & Monty might want to check out. My current case is an Otterbox Defender, and though the case is trashed; torn outer layer peeling back on the back & edges pulled back at the corners, my iPhone 6 is still going strong! Mous, Casetify, Spiegen, Catalyst, Nomad & Apple; as well as customized ones from Skinit & Collage. Thinking maybe the Prop Tart might be a good accessory to go with one of these other cases. Thanks, Aaron for the amazing reviews; can’t wait for more from you, Val & Monty!

  • The loopy case seems great, but I need more protection for those freak accidents that occur when not utilizing the loop. Have you or could you make a top 10 list of one handed phone holder accessories. Or do you recommend any certain ones that you have came across? Finding ones that can lay flat/ that are slim so they don't rock or slide off narrow surfaces, sturdy enough to use as a stand (a lot loose their resistance after use and just collapse immediately), can use with MagSafe charging, on the smaller size vs grabtab by spec that take up 75% of the phone, removable so you don't damage the case when you need to place a new one. Ones that secure enough to utilize your hands fully like the loop or a ring. I like to go hiking in the mountains so keeping my hands free to climb or embrace falling but also having my phone at the ready for a quick photo is what i'm trying accomplish. Think you could help? I'd really appreciate it. I always look to your reviews for my iPhone needs and questions.

  • I know I've mentioned this before, but I'm an avid user of the Nobiggi. I can put it on about any case, it's an elastic strap and lays flat on my phone, and it doesn't interfere with Qi charging (and, by the way, Qi charging was NEVER about speed - it can't possibly be faster than wired charging - but I use it because it is convenient in the cases where I want to use it). ANYway... The Nobiggi has a lot of the advantages of the Loopy case, but it's much flatter and can be put on many different kinds of cases. There are plenty of elastic finger straps similar to nobiggi, and I can't comment on any of the others, but I use my nobiggi all the time and really enjoy it. Just info for anyone interested.
