  • That shifter does come out!!! And it's so easy. Lift the boot, neutral, and spin the retaining ring!!! That trans was used in big dump trucks too, thay will TAKE A BEATING!! I had one in a 383ci Snow Plow truck with posi in front and rear making around 500hp, and it took it from 1979 until I sold it last year!! Also... make life easier and get a hydraulic master and slave cyl for the clutch. One little one in the firewall, and it'll go right in. The slave is bolted to the outside of the trans. 1986-1989 years had them, but they sell everything you need at Advance Autoparts.

  • While you are redoing the hydraulics redo ALL of the hoses. You are already down there with things apart, with hydraulic hoses its not a matter of if they will blow, its when. Replace them now and you will have years before you have to worry about that. And i mean ALL of them, it will always be the tiny hose that looks fine thats buried under everything that ends up blowing. Hauled a fertilizer/seed conveyor trailer around for a while, spent plenty of time crawling around the framework fixing hoses and the trailer was only 4 years old. Local manufacturer, we actually got prototype number 2 from that company. We changed a lot, like breaking all of the hoses up into 5' sections so we dont have to haul out and replace 20' of hose every time one blew, and making sure the connections were positioned somewhere reachable so even if the hose blew deep in the trailer you could still undo both ends fairly easily. Set up your system right from the start to save a LOT of headaches down the road.

Might have gone quicker but might now been able to get it into the parking lot. Love what Cleet said. "may have lost a friendship but we now have a budget." Derek might haggle with you given the deception but it will not cost the friendship. Love both of your channels. Both are a class act!!!!!

  • The shifter does come out. Take a pair of pliers and push down on the tin piece at shifter base then turn like an 1/8th turn counter clockwise. Two roll pins old the tin piece in. Tin piece has littler ears and there is a spring under it that keeps tension pushing up so it stays hooked on the roll pins.

  • For future reference, I think when they said to lift with the doors shut, I think they meant to close the door on the strap, instead of putting the strap through the door. Lifting with the doors closed is generally done to prevent the “tub” from bending under its own weight, the doors help reinforce the rigidity of the cab.

  • My 7 year old daughter saw them lifting the engine out with the forklift and said I’ve helped do that a bunch of times daddy. It looks like the same engine. A tear came to my eye. Adventures of cleet and squirrel should be a channel on KZhead. SM465 transmission will probably be fine. If you’re just keeping it at the track it’ll probably fine. If you’re going to drive it on the highway at all an nv4500 would be better.

  • Done dozens of cab swaps. Always used a two post lift. First to pick it up and remove the transmission and disconnect everything, then set it down, pull the front clip off and position the pads under the rockers and lift the cab. Roll old chassis out and roll new one under. We built a metal box with wheels on it the same size as the roll deck that we used as a makeshift dump truck bed. Loving the content. This was a lot of cringe to watch, and I think sometimes you do that on purpose!

    • Yes, it is cringy because they have money to do a decent hot rod ramp truck and parts are easy to find for square bodies. I have a 79 C20 that I have done everything you can think of to and upgraded with great parts probably an easy $7k into the 406 forged and full roller engine, built th400, gear vendors overdrive, disc brakes, factory ac that works great, stereo, you name it. My other one is an 88 K5 Blazer. My trucks are restomods but even if they took the easy route and properly cleaned and painted the frame and built up with decent parts, it could be a very nice and usable truck. This video was too much like the few I have seen from whistlindiesel.

  • I use to build tanker trucks. I would just move the axle and stretch the frame on the good one. Much easier. Love the content no matter what. Keep it up

  • Should definitely do a full resto on the truck with new hardware and power coating all the suspension components so it’s clean and rust free if you don’t plan on that already

  • Hey cleeter mcskeeter the transmission in both trucks is an sm465 and the shifters do in fact come out. Right at the base of the shifter there is a ring that you twist with a pair of channel locks and then it will release the shifter they are probably covered in grease so it may be hard to see
