That's exactly the excuse the then Defence minister Philip Hammond said when he axed a large part of the Regular Army to form his new look one , based on recruiting 6000+ week-end warriors , even offered cash inducements to the folks he made redundant , he was warned , and yes it never happened , end result his crystal ball gazing re: future wars will be small and insurgency operations, which of course Putin has totally debunked today and his pie in the sky ideas have now caused a major recruitment problem , still he got what he wanted in the end , a slimmed down Army !

Not Impressed ! The Army now has such low levels of personnel we could no longer sustain even 2 weeks of operations in the sort of environment we endured during the " Cold War " which seems to be re-establishing itself under Putin, no matter how pathetic his forces appear to be.
Can tell you flat out the challenger 2 at the army expo was knackered and required weeks of worth just to even get it to the expo and even then it was barley functional as a static display
they are all being upgraded soon so maybe.

i mean just look at the demographics you see in the video. one of the segments literally mentions social mobility whilke panning to white working class young men. of course theyre included.

As good as Boxer is it cannot compete with a tracked vehicle. It is NOT a suitable replacement for Warriors. We need a like for like replacement, something like CV90 or KF41. Boxer can complement not replace a tracked IFV!!!!

It's irrelevant wether they are better or not. When your outnumbered 20 to 1. Personally I reckon the latest T90 M would take a massive dump on the Challenger 3 for ease of maintenance and ability to perform in theatre.

As ex British Army I can say this is just propaganda for a gullible public. Hi tech, yes all good. But so small in numbers to be useless in a major conflict. Only good for Afghan type small scale operations.

All nice shinny pieces of kit BUT its boots on the ground that the Army needs , unmanned this, unmanned that, drones that can do this , Artillery that can hit from 40, 50 ,60 miles away with one shot all of these cannot hold the ground. Not one war has been won without man power and that the Armies biggest problem. PS , Ajax should have been cancelled and the CV90 instead, it would also be in service long ago

yes it does. More soldiers doesn't translate to an increase in our war-fighting capabilities anymore. Drones, smart-munitions and intelligence gathering are all far more important and should/do get the majority of the budget.

@@thelordofman7539 Thats really just not the case - they are important but not 'far more' important at all. The reason we are shrinking is because of budgetary constraints - if we had the money we would absolutely be buying/building our conventional forces, just look at Ukraine. Drones cant hold territory or win hearts and minds - people do.
@@ellyrion8173 Those only matter if you need to hold territory and don't already have the peoples hearts and minds. E.g when you're the invading/occupying force. If you're defending/ liberating all you need to do is stop the flow of enemy troops coming into the AO and then sanitize. Both of which can be done by drones. A single missile can take out a coach of 50 enemy combatants while they're still in transit to the conflict zone. Both Russia and China have neglected their air-defense systems, leaving them vulnerable to these kinds of attacks. With autonomous drones jamming won't be an option, and all kinetic defense systems have been shown wanting against small, cheap harassment munitions.
@@ellyrion8173 As for spending, we're one of the few NATO countries who meet the 2% of GDP requirement, we spend over £50 billion annually on our defense, we're the 6th largest defense spender in the world. We're just putting the money where it counts, R&D
All nice and shiny , but useless if you don't have the bods to operate it all , Armed forces need to get more attractive , and poor pay, rubbish barracks and married quarters , even the cookhouse food is suspect , plus you have to pay for it , along with the accommodation, as for swan postings , aka sunshine postings ? and last my favourite when i was in lots of adventure training exercises ?

I noticed a trans gender WO2 RLC ‘person’ from 11 EOD at Didcot. Is this the modern British army? The youngsters it was lecturing at Alexandra Palace in May were openly laughing and sniggering at it. Very embarrassing.
