Hey thank you!
@@PCBuilderChannel where is the link to the video that says PCIE 5.0 for GPU is worthless?
Oh sorry its the Best GPU for Gaming 2024 video. I'll add it. Basically there are no gen 5 GPUs and no plans to make them anytime in the lifetime of a current pc
@PCBuilderChannel what about asus b650 e gaming wifi for r7 7800x3d ?
Nice, an updated guide for motherboards, and just when i was thinking of finding a guide for that.
It was time for sure!
Awesome video as always Jason!!! Always informative and entertaining! Stay well buddy!!!!!!
Thanks so much, Jason. This is super helpful -- as are your various other videos I recently viewed. Thank you.
I ended up picking up the Aorus ice for the x670 for my all white build with a 7950x3d. It’s great
Thanks for this guide man! I usually always skip long vids like this but this was very informative and also discussed what I needed to know on motherboards.
Glad to hear this one was useful for you! Thanks so much for watching, hope you keep enjoying all the content.
Helpful and informative as ever, thanks. Could you do a list that focuses on MicroATX specifically?
Got the B650 Tomahawk a few months back on my first build. I really like it and decided to forego the Micro Center bundle with the Gaming X AX to get this mobo and the lower CL RAM of my choice
Well good job on this video, it’s very good. Awesome content at start about the cryptic board descriptions. But in the mid part I was kinda shocked, that you seem to value boards on their connectors. Don’t forget that you need to see behind the connectors - some of them don’t work in some combos on some boards. Most important is here the compatibility or better to say the layout of some boards can deny full PCI-E x16 if used with m2 in some combinations. That’s the reason why some boards with x670 chipset are so “overpriced”.
2:40 been watching your videos for some time now. The presentation with hand gestures and the other small details like that you include are a form of ASMR. I find rather relaxing watching you do those things. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻
So glad you're enjoying the channel, thanks so much! Hope you keep enjoying all the content :)
Already pulled the trigger on a B650 PG Lightning got a pretty good deal on it at 160 euros, but this gives me a pretty good insight in building a pc for a friend and potentially saving him money, great video as always jason u've been a huge help, great content as usual.
Glad we can help!! Thanks for watching
My AM5 system uses the Asrock Steel Legend X670E motherboard and I love it. My AM4 system uses the Steel Legend B550 variant and I also love that motherboard. I haven't had any trouble with memory timings, odd motherboard issues, or needing additional tweaking to get everything working.
I am still on Asrock B550 how is the audio on the X670E is it working good?
@@mistera1577 Been working just fine. Haven't had any audio glitches. Two of the game I play use to drop audio right frequently. When I switched to the Steel Legend board from the Prime B450M-A board: I haven't had anymore audio glitches.
Thank you for alot of videos, help a ton building my new dream pc :) You explain everything very good
Hey Jason, nothing to add to your great vid, just wanted to comment to thank you for the great advice you give!
I appreciate that! So glad you enjoyed!
Didn’t watch this great video yet, but I was literally looking on your channel a couple of days ago for the best ryzen motherboards, y u do dis to me lol😂 thanks for top quality videos tho 👌🏾
Suspect timing again, was looking at the last motherboard guide, and found this one only hours after I last looked. Great as always Jason! And if you don't mind, can you please make an updated PC cooler guide, since the last one was in mid 2022?
Well, what coolers are you looking at the moment?
I've been super hooked to your videos as of late Jason and I'm learning so much stuff. I'm ordering the parts for my first PC build hopefully next week but I'd like to confirm something about the mobo before I do that. I'm getting a Ryzen 5 7600 paired with an RX 7800 XT, and for mobo I was going to go for the MSI Pro B650M-A. Is this one still good enough if my purpose for this build is gaming at 1440p? Or would you recommend to take the leap up to the more premium "gaming" motherboards shown in the video? (Case is going to be the Antec NX410 you recommended so no problems about the size) Cheers!
I have the b650 mag WiFi Mobo, a 7700x, and a 4080 It’s worked well for me
Seems nobody wants to talk about the ASRock B650 LiveMixer, for some reason. Incredible amount of USB ports, very good VRMs, Nahimic audio, a Gen 5 NVMe slot, and two Gen 4 NVMe slots. $150 at Newegg.
ASRock is losing the paid review war., that's why.
love asrock, been using them since 2014, never one single issue
I bought it. The audio sounded like a garbled garbage disposal with regular music compared to my TUF X670. My X670 is beyond overkill for my use case, but the audio is leaps and bounds ahead of this. Since all I do is game and record music, I went back to my overpriced board because it works so much better. Maybe I got a one-off that just leaked thru the QA process, but that was enough for me to go back.
Im using Asrock A620 with 7600x. no need to OC and price was half of what B650 was. great products from Asrock.
Such a cool design on this board! I would buy this just because it doesnt look braindead rotten like everything else.
Ordered an MSI B550-A Pro yesterday for my 5700x, perfect for Third World budget builds, fingers crossed and I won't even have to update the BIOS.
I've been using the MSI B550-A Pro / 5800X3D combo for about two years is MSFS. It's a great budget board with a great VRM section (one of the most important parts of any motherboard. I had to buy a WiFi 6 PCI card, which added some cost, but overall I've been very happy.
@@eracer1111 Still waiting for the GPU to finish the build, hope everything goes fine!
Love it. And from a sound perspective, just so surprinsing how so few of these boards have the RealTek chip 1220 + optical Toslink output. How are you going to live without it today ??? Given this combo should work as well as a 124 dB SNR Sound Blaster ZxR combo, with only 24 bits 96Khz capabilities, or even the newer ones.
I got the ASUS TUF x670e-plus wifi and happy with it. When I was looking the I/O is what really sold me on it. I didn't like the orange coloring but with my LEDs set to red you can't even see the orange at all so it worked out.
Great video, I follow a lot of YT tec, chans and its nice to see you dont forget those without unlimited budgets.
Thank you! I try to cover every budget for people
Thank you so much! I got CPU and GPU figured out but am lost on mobo's. Really appreciated the comment on audio level and also the white version motherboards 😁 Trying to build my first gaming PC and there are so many parts to research, you are a real help ❤
Do you have any questions?
So glad we can help!
I just built a new pc a couple months ago, I have the b650 elite ice with a 7600x and the controversial a770 with 32 gb ddr5.. I've been very pleased with the performance and have plenty of headroom for future upgrades
Amazing video as always! I've learnt so much thanks to you! I bought my Asrock b650E Riptide last Black Friday for $160, very nice board with PCIe 5.0 in it and Wifi, no complaints, has been working perfectly!
Nice! Thanks for sharing

The MSI Edge B650 WiFi is a better board than the B650 WiFi Tomahawk version (also costs a bit more) & that is what I used on my recent Ryzen 9 7900 12C/24T 1440p build. My late-2019 3700X 1080p build used an MSI B450 Tomahawk motherboard & that PC is still running great today with all the original hardware, so both board options are a good choice really.
It's a great board. The only real difference is the white styling and the addition of PCIE Gen 5 M.2 Support. Personally I like the look of the edge more than the Tomahawk (I know some people love matte black but I personally favor the black/white or black/silver look). And it goes on sale cheaper than the Tomahawk sometimes too.
Great video Jason, your wisdom is so helpful :3
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
I want to get the Aorus Elite AX but ive seen issues with the DRAM light and other. what are your opinions.
Thanks, Jason! I just picked up a Ryzen 5 7500f on AliXpres for under $130 (first time buyer deal) and will be pairing it with an RX 6800 GPU. I was online last night trying to pick a motherboard. This really helped so I appreciate your recommendations.
You're so welcome! And congrats on the purchase! So happy we could help :)
What motherboard did you end up going with?
@@ItsAngelBTW ASRock B650e PG Riptide wifi
It’s very important to note that certain motherboards will automatically lower the speed of the top PCIe slot if you plug anything into the 2nd and 3rd slots, which means your GPU will take a performance hit. My particular motherboard (Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master) does this, and lowered the top slot from PCIe 4.0 down to PCIe 3.0 after installing an expansion device into the 2nd PCIe slot.
Badass video as usual my guy 👍🏾 thank you
You really took your time to script and pack a TON of very useful information here! Anyone contemplating a new build needs to watch this.
Thank you! So glad its helpful
As always great content Jason (and Sarah)! ^^
Don't the ASRock B650i and A620i lightning have 2 M2 slots? Different speeds, but still 2 slots. If so, does that change your ITX recommendation at all? Thanks for the great video!
Absolutely great video, thanks Jason. I’m not currently building but use your videos to help friends and family that ask me for advice, as things change so much and I wouldn’t give out advice unless I had a good information source. I really like the Strix F board (especially as it is on sale in the uk at £209 right now) but I wish it had the Q-code reader (has helped me troubleshoot in the past) and a usb c header. The Strix b650e e gaming has these features for £269, but users need to be careful. If I’m not mistaken when M.2_3 is populated, PCIEx16_1 runs in X8 mode. Maybe not a problem right now but could be down the line for high end gaming builds. Just seems an odd choice to make as the second pcie slot may not be effected. This could be a topic to cover in an advanced builders guild. ‘’Understanding your motherboard’s connectivity and the importance of reading your manual”. Plus how to decide what features are important.
Phenomenal Video As Always! The Content & Info Is Spot On, I Have The Tomahawk & It's Awesome. I Recently Built My First PC Last Month With The Help Of Your Videos, Thank You.
Thank you for the guide. What do you think about ASRock B650 PG LIGHTNING (for r5 7600) ?
It's fine if you find it for a good price. Seems overpriced right now in the US.
It's fine, just like all the others
The E boards also have an entire 2nd x670/b650 chipset on them, which is why they have those slots and usually more high speed connectivity(usb thunderbolt etc) its not just product segmentation, there is actual extra hardware.
Aaaaay, the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WIFI. I bought that one from Best Buy back in November for $172 plus tax. Freakin' love it. Everything I wanted in a new platform.
MSI is rocksolid when it comes to motherboards
Mine takes like 2 min to boot, any tips please? ❤

Same, my ram crashed in Expo until I updated my bios for the second time, but it’s been solid since. Zero problems
Jason, I've been on the fence here lately. Not sure what your thoughts are on getting into Ryzen 7000 series now, or waiting until their next generation later this year. I'll be targetting somewhere around 7900x3d territory of wanting a good workload PC while also netting solid gaming performance. I game in 4k, so not too worried about having a pure gaming chip. Thoughts on waiting versus not?
I got the aorus elite ax ice and I can’t wait to build with it 🤗
What dou you think which one to buy? MSI Tomahawk Wifi or Strix B650-A or Aorus Elite AX?
Thank you ! Its my first time building my own pc so im going with a ryzen 7 7800x3d and the hellhound spectral white rx 7800 xt. Decided to go with the Aorus Elite ax ice:) I was contemplating the project zero am5, but I think I'll go for the other
Good choices, though if a White 7900GRE isn't much more than that White 7800XT I would go with that instead.
@@kelley09162 is it the sapphire pure radeon ? What's the difference? Is it better than the 7800xt ?

@@kelley09162 oh thank you. I know where to look now. I scrolled back a few months but not that far.
Im still rocking my X570 Dark Hero, love this board. It will go down as one of the coolest motherboards ever, IMO.
Hey Jason! Fantastic video as usual. Will the audio performance on the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk Wifi make it worth the $50 increase in price over the audio performance of the AsRock B650M Pro RS Wifi?
By itself, no way. But you'll get a lot more USB (and higher speed) connections, better build quality, more PCIE slots, and a full bandwidth 3rd M.2 slot which to me is enough of a package to make it worth it if you are also using an analog audio connector. But if you just want the audio, consider spending the $50 (maybe a bit more) on an external audio device instead.
Perfect timing i was getting lost on what the best MB was right now. Thank you sir. 👍🏾
Happy to help!
Thank you, this is exactly what I needed. Ive been looking at b650 boards trying to work out what i want and how much will it cost me. I really want upgraded audio and im thinking i will go with the b650 tomahawk.

Hey Jason, i was waiting for 2024 edition video and Thanks...
do you think the msi pro b650-P wifi is good? Even over the tomahawk?
4:00 I must add that your Motherboard supporting 4 m.2 slots for example, or having support for PCIe Bifurcation are premiums for X series boards, rarely seen on B series boards, that further future proof your system. But you are right, not everyone will keep adding drives when they are running out of storage, and not everyone will buy a PCIe x8 GPU that has slots for 1 or 2 m.2 drives running at PCIe x4.
great breakdown. bonus for ambrosius footage!
Thanks so much! Ambrosius appreciates it :)
Waiting on the next gen of AM5 MBs to be released. Assuming announcement and preview at Computex in June. probably released in fall. Just in time to get great deals for Black Friday or Boxing Day, when I do most of my computer shopping.
I just upgraded last year, don't use AMD, and already know most of this stuff but I still click because this is the fastest, most passionate, most detailed knowledge about my hobby on this website.
Hey thank you!! I really appreciate it (:
Don't used AMD gpu or cpu? What happened
Well if you want intricate knowledge you should probably watch guys like Actually Hardcore Overclocking and Frame Chasers. This channel is definitely for newbies but I will say he doesn't steer people in the wrong direction. Most people are brand loyal and not intelligent. When they should only care about the fastest. That's why I currently run a 4090 and 7800x3d. If AMD didn't suck so bad in the graphics market, and could produce the fastest I would go with them as simple as that. Makes me sick.

Hi Jason- I've been looking at the MicroCenter bundle that comes with the 7700x CPU and the B650-P PRO WiFi AMD AM5 ATX motherboard and G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit. After watching this video I'm now wondering if I should pass on the bundle and buy the parts separately. You made no mention of this motherboard in your recommendations. And while the bundle seems like a good deal, I am being cautious as a first time PC builder.
No that's a good deal and you should get it. He just doesn't recommend that Motherboard here because by itself it's currently more important expensive than the Gigabyte Eagle and MSI Gaming Plus WIFI with similar specs.
Great video, very instructive, but what about the Gigabyte b650 gaming X ? Is it good and if there is a good audio codec in it ?
That Motherboard has the base audio codec in it but it's a good Motherboard. Just note there's a V2 of it out now which I assume makes some improvements over the original.

All this time I've been listening to your channel I've never heard you review the Asrock B650 livewire motherboard. I did a lot of research and landed on this motherboard for my build. For Zen5 remember there are 28 PCIe lanes. 4 are reserved for taking to the chipset(s) if you are 670 chipset is really just two 650s chained onto the same 4x PCI chipset lanes. The other 24 lanes are normally diveded between 16 for GPU slot, 4 for main M.2, 4 for second M.2 the final 4 are either a PCI slot (often a x16 slot but only wired with 4 lanes) a 3rd lane or on a handful of bards they use these for a 40gb/s USB4 port.
Great video was waiting for an update
Hope it was helpful! Thanks for watching
Great guide. I upgraded from ryzen 1600x to a 5600G due to Windows 11. Unfortunately, i am still on a B350 Mobo. So, this definitely helps for my next upgrade. 👍
Thanks so much. Congrats on the upgrade, onward and upward!
I would agree on the A series. However, there are several -very- bad B boards. The one thing is, we're starting to see X series in that same price segment (see Asrock X670E Pro, which is now in several places below $200) that said, the most significant benefits of X670E do matter depending on your end use plan. Having a 10Gbe onboard was a virtual requirement for what I was after, as a Quadro is going to take up slots, and I have repeatedly upgraded my NVME to as fast as I can go for video swap surface before it gets to my NAS. One other item you don't often find on B650 is Thunderbolt4, which, if you are also dealing with creator purposes, you are likely to need. So, plan on your purpose. Are you building to game? Or are you building to create? Very different. And, at a certain point, you may hit an area where looking at Threadripper pays off. I'm not eager to upgrade my Threadripper 5975, but PCI-E lanes, but for some users, this will matter. Keep in mind: fastest graphics card will also be very different based on your build purposes.
I was definitely in the market for a motherboard with better audio than the basic options. My sound system requires spdif optical output. Settled on the MSI tomahawk
Nice!
hi jason, do you recomend Asrock B650I Lightning WiFi for mini itx build?
If you need to save money its fine, but it only has 1 m.2 slot. That is why the Gigabyte B650i is my top ITX pick for just $50 more.
Hey there Jason, great explanation on the boards however you didn't focus on CPU's at all. After being out of the pc building scene for a such a long time, I am finding the Ryzen CPU's highly confusing. could you do a video on Ryzen cpus?
What questions do you have?
@@kelley09162 naming conventions, budget, mid, premium cpu to along with these boards, how many cores is really needed etc.
@@Mido66778899depends on what you're doing with the PC and what your budget is.
I have always considered a 50 board better for serious overclocking, by far, and a 70 board for connectivity for workloads, as the basic difference between the two. Both are good for general use and can overlap depending on the quality.
@PCBuilderChannel The ASRock B650I LIGHTNING itx has two m.2 ports. One is on the front the other is on the back.
I just bought an ASRock B550m Pro4 for $80 shipped. Glad to see you recommend it. Should go well with the 5600x that I also recently bought but was going to put in a B450m Pro4.
Hey Jason can you reccomend the best motherboard and graphics card to go with the Ryzen 9 5900x that I plan to upgrade to soon. Thanks 😊
Just know Jason doesn't recommend the 5900X in 2024.
@@kelley09162 ok
I'm so lucky that the board I chose for aesthetic reasons (to pair with my 5600x for my first build) just HAPPENED to be a B550 with pcie 4.0 and a flashback button It's incredible how much more I have learned AFTER my first build! Your videos are so awesome!
Hello, Jason-PC Builder. I would love your personal opinion. I bought one of your recommended prebuilt pc’s a while back. asus prime b550-plus ac-hes, NVIDIA rtx 3070, and ryzen 5 5600X. w/o replacing: asus prime b550-plus ac-hes. What’s the highest gpu/cpu you recommend w/o breaking the motherboard compatibility?
That board isn't fantastic, but no reason it couldn't do a Ryzen 5800X3D or 5700X3D. Will likely need a better cooler. Just make sure to update the bios to a compatible one with the new CPUs (latest non-beta version). Once you do that, should be ok with just about any current gen GPU, as long as your PSU has enough power for it.
WOW! My head is spinning! But I love the info! Subscribed. Thumbs up.
Thanks so much for the sub! Hope you keep enjoying all the content :))
Thx for the feedback. I'm not sure though, I read a lot of bad comments about the MSI B650 Gamig Plus Wifi, idk... - Is it actually a good board?
I have a 3700x cpu and am looking to upgrade from my B450 Gaming Plus Max. Should I upgrade and, if so, could I use the ASRock B550 PG Riptide? I don't like mini and micro MOBOs.
Wow that's a great deal on that MSI Pro B650m MB! It's very close to the same price for the B550 MB's. Great time to upgrade to the Ryzen 7000 series CPU's!
this video was really helpful. Im helping my friend get a pc and seeing that amd is best for price to performance im going with amd for him. I have nvidia and intel buils so learning about the amd cpus from this video made me understand the cpu and mobo combos better. Thank you Jason for being here to help me :)
Awesome! So glad we could help!! You might want to check out our Best Builds March video too, there's some great sample Ryzen builds there
Any recommendations for ATX mobos? I'm a first-time builder and all your picks are mATX which will be harder to build.
ATX motherboards are badly priced right now. But I promise you the mATX boards are just as easy to build with, these aren't Mini ITX which might be what you're thinking. Most of my first time builder recommendations are mATX.
I haven't built a new PC since 2001 when Athlon XP and GeForce 3 were top notch. Watching this video has gotten me up to speed in an excellent fashion. After 20+ years, I'm getting back into the game. Thank you for such a comprehensive overview
Welcome back!! So glad we can help
@@PCBuilderChannelMSI Tomahawk looks like a good middle ground, premium audio and good price. Thank you!
AAA quality content. Great help for the media PC I'm putting together
Glad it's proving helpful! Thanks so much, and thanks for watching ;)
I put my new 7600X in an Asus TUF GAMING X670E-Plus WiFi ATX Motherboard. I paired it with a Nvidia 4070 Ti Super. I’m happy with all of it.
I hear ya man. I got a 7950x3d with the x670 elite aorus AX and managed to nab a 4090 and no problems so far!
Hey Jason, I want to thank you guys for these amazing videos you uploaded. This channel helped me a lot to understand what kind of PC I want, how it works and how to build it. I built my PC a month ago, and it works perfectly fine. Currently rocking a 7800X3D + 7900 XTX and I couldn't be any happier! :)
That's awesome! Congrats on your build and I'm so glad we could help. Thanks for letting us know it means a lot
The ASRock B550 Pro4 AM4 doesnt have flashback will that be a problem with a AMD Ryzen 5 6500
I noticed you recommended the D3HP but I read the Gigabyte budget boards have bad VRMS (discrete MOSFETs). I don't really understand this, does it also apply to the D3HP? And is it a big reason to avoid a mobo? Thanks for the great video!
I am wondering the same thing too. I just bought a D3HP AX with Ryzen 7600x and Radeon 7800xt and I believe it is fine since I do not plan on overclocking etc
can you share me your thoughts about the B550M AORUS ELITE?
can you also buy the GIGABYTE B650 AORUS Elite (without V2), that was my original plan. thanks again for your wonderful reviews and recommendations!
Yes you can. The V2 is just priced similarly in the US so no reason for someone here to get the original.
I just built the 7800 X3D with the Gigabyte B650 Eagle and it’s amazing. 700 fps in valorant at highest setting ❤
Congrats on your build! And thanks so much for watching!
i just recently bought an asus rog strix 4090 oc white, slowly upgrading my pc next is the 7800x3d, and would like to know what motherboard youd recommend personally for this set up, i have 32 gigs of ram.... planned on getting another 32 gigs just so theres no bottle neck there. i just dont want a motherboard thats gonna bottle neck my pc as its gonna be the best of the best so if i gotta go the $500+ route of a motherboard then so be it... thats what im dealing with on prebuilt pc i have right now
Any of our premium picks here would be great for this. We actually just launched our new 7800X3D build guide on the channel too so check that out for more
