Hey guys! I'm back with another video! I know I said that I would have this out by Wednesday at the latest, but I ended up drowning in school work, so I finally managed to get this out today. Thank you all for your patience.
Today, I'm looking at characters in video games that were unknowingly made extremely powerful, to the point where it makes you wonder how the developers didn't notice the first time around. We're going on a power trip, boys. Enjoy!
...You listed Oddjob as "unintentional" despite the fact that he was _entirely_ intentional. The devs went on-record in very early interviews saying that "Using Oddjob is cheating, he's there so players who suck can play and still have a chance."
As someone who sucks at a lot of PvP games, I gotta pay respect to Rare for that
Pichu is there for the same reason but with the opposite path. Nerf the better player instead of buffing the weaker player

For a long time, Pichu is has not been considered the worst character in melee. Kirby and Bowser are far worse, most of kirby's throws can be escaped from merely be wiggling the control stick (which seems more unintentionally broken).
Yeah, I think Pichu still at least had some of Pikachu's strengths going on due to being a clone. Kirby was just straight up non-functional half the time (a stark contrast to Smash 64, the only game where Kirby was not just "good" but straight up top 3) and Bowser's characteristics in his laggy movement and attacks combined with his size work entirely against him. It's funny because he's at least been "okay" after his Smash 4 rework, meanwhile fellow heavy character Ganondorf was actually okay in Melee only to infamously end up bottom 3 (bottom 1 in Brawl and Ultimate) in every subsequent installment.
I coulda sworn you can also escape a few of them by pressing jump too
Kirby's grabs being escaped seems intentional, because the ones you can escape can all sewer slide off the edge, taking your opponent with you. They probably thought that was too broken. And literally nobody is bringing up Game and Watch, a character is literally programmed incorrectly.
@@The_Big_Jaywhat. Gotta look into game and watch
@@SECONDQUESTGame and Watch's model was somewhat copied from Dr. Mario's (I think?). TLDR G&W's shield literally doesn't cover his body. He also can't L-cancel any of his aerials, the only character in the game with that flaw.
I remember when I tried playing fallout 4 I suck at FPSs so combat was a pain for me, and when I found Codsworth I thought sweet I found my quirky robot this is fun. One that i'm VERY surprised didn't make it on this list is Salvador/Gunzerker (Borderlands 2). Easily the best character in the game for various jank reasons, but partly due to a broken interaction with his core ability, Gunzerking. While gunzerking, you're able to dual-wield guns, however special weapon effects are shared, or carried over between both weapons. A popular example is using the Lady Fist which has a hidden +800% critical damage multiplier and being able to put that on any weapon in the game. In the past it also used to be way more powerful, as you were able to carry damage stats from your right hand weapon to certain left hand weapons that had unique projectiles (again, a popular example being a high damage rocket launcher main hand and then the Pimpernel, a sniper that has it's bullets split into 5 upon hitting something, in the off hand to gain the damage stats of the rocket launcher). Honourable mentions to Zer0's B0re which lets you effectively one shot some bosses as it makes your weapons pierce and increases their damage multiplicatively, and Maya's Cloud Kill which will instantly melt anything below the highest difficulty levels.
Maya's cloud kill also doesnt scale based on your weapon but instead your level making it so you can use a slag weapon with high effect chance like the slagga and just rely solely on cloudkill since theres barely, if any enemies with corrosive resistance/immunity and the few things that do you can just switch to a different weapon for
Gunzerking becomes even more broken under the realization that it breaks the few balancing factors Salvador does has, like how Money Shot's bonus relies on your magazine size (which completely breaks for any gun on your left hand, which allows for builds like Deputy Salvador/Pimphab Salvador to exist). Or how some unlisted projectiles like the Pimpernel or Flakker just take on the damage properties of your currently held gun (a fact for the former that would be conventionally useless instead proves busted because Sal can hold a high power launcher & Pimpernel simultaneously). I could probably go on for an eternity as to how Salvador is probably a prime example of being walking bug abuse, but that's kinda already obvious to plenty of folk as is. In the Borderlands franchise, I'd probably say that Sal ranks 3 in terms of having the most busted theoretical damage formula. Amara & Zane likely tie due to Amara's access to double dipping, & Zane being similar with Boresplosion existing. If we're talking purely minimum effort maximum results, nothing possibly beats out Boresplosion Zane though. Complex Root, Splash Radius Passive on a Hustler CoM, & Eraser will let you deal ungodly damage without having to care about aiming. Imagine having the bullshit damage of B0re, alongside Gaige/Nisha's playstyle of blindly spraying enemies, & you have the most ungodly build that has ever been conceived in the franchise (only balanced by the specific class mod being a nightmare to farm). The Mind Sweeper + Pull The Holy Pin combo on Moze can also be said to be functionally similar to Boresplosion, but it lacks the same consistency & Moze is outright blocked out of Complex Root abuse due to no built-in ability to negate self-damage like Zane has with Duct Tape Mod. Deputy Salvador/Pimphabbing at a bare minimum still requires aiming at stuff to achieve its broken amount of damage, but Boresplosion does not, which is weird as hell to say because Zane as a whole is otherwise far more involved to play than Salvador (Unless you try to replicate Salvador's shenanigans with Clone like using the Grease Trap for some busted fire explosions, or effectively infinite ammo through his ammo regen anointment on the top of my head).
@@GeneralSouthParkFan I wouldn't exactly say conventionally useless. Gun swapping is by far the most broken on sal, but shooting a flakker then swapping to ahab will still delete most bosses in the game on any character. Also, moze is, as far as damage formulas go, the most broken char in 3 imo, just by virtue of almost every damage modifier you can think of double dipping on short fuse, and the ability to force it to activate if you know how to count your shots. For general use, though, Complex Root is the most egregious example, yes.
@@bigchungus6827 When I said conventionally useless I referred to the Pimpernel in specific, as it's impossible to really swap to a Rocket Launcher to abuse its projectiles taking on the properties of a launcher like the Durp or World Burn. Also yeah in general, Moze is the easiest character to break in BL3 thanks to Short Fuse abuse especially with investments to Splash for really nice double dipping (Ties that Bind Amara has access to potentially Quadruple Dipping with Ties That Bind/Indiscriminate/Remnant, which can be especially powerful when you fully invest in elemental boosts and Splash, but TTB completely lacks the ability to handle single target as does a standard Blue Tree Moze build) She's also the only one to my knowledge with a limitless damage ceiling as the Mind Sweeper CoM can constantly create microgrenades provided you proc Pull The Holy Pin until the enemy just dies. Eraser on the other hand can only create a new projectile as many times as until the game realizes they're Eraser projecties, stopping the chaining entirely. Boresplosion nonetheless has a degree of high damage consistency that the Mind Sweeper lacks, which is insane given that this is Moze we're talking about, the character I just vented about having a really damn good DPS floor. Boresplosion is just a uniquely busted build for Zane all around, & using the Complex Root alongside makes it more braindead than any other build in the game.
@@GeneralSouthParkFan While I generally agree, apart from not liking Complex Root abuse due to extreme retinal damage, in my personal experience, Moze is the most consistent in one shotting bosses, and that's mainly due to Short Fuse, as I said. Obviously, outside of that there's a ton of other extremely powerful setups (I think I've one shot everything in the game with white elephant amara, even after that setup has been heavily nerfed), and even some weapons like the charge up rocket launcher (Kickcharger? I can't remember the name) that can potentially do enough damage to one shot most enemies in the game without passive trees. And of course melee damage conversion with Fish Slap (Combined with Guardian Angel for even easier complete annihilation of bosses), Face Puncher... that's also comically busted. Tl;dr, whoever was balancing BL3 was asleep on the job.
pichu also benefited from the introduction of the rage mechanic, once you hit a certain amount of damage you get an attack bonus, which pichu can induce at will, never needing to be hit by an opponent.

A character that I feel would absolutely fit this list is Penta Penguin from Crash Team Racing (the original). The thing with Penta is that he was added as a last minute addition and has very weird things regarding him (he has some placeholder voice lines, has a random mask between Aku Aku and Uka Uka...). And while in the American version he's just a regular racer, in the Japanese and European versions he was incorrectly given the stats of Nitros Oxide, the final boss of the game who's not even playable in the PS1 version. This means that this silly penguin who only appeared in a cutscene in Crash 3 is the best racer to play as in the game if you're Japanese or European!

Once you turned off auto aim, and switched to yellow button aiming Oddjob was more of a liability with a slightly larger head hitbox because of his hat. No-one picked him twice.
Same happened with zoo tycoon 2 that put Chapultepec zoo in TIJUANA
all your typical body shots would be headshots. he was super easy to counter. at least with Jaws, people would have to go extra out of their way to get headshots.
"I want you to go back to the year 2001." My 2002 born ahh: So, slight problem
Freddy was getting wrecked the whole movie, but he did not lose the fight against Jason. In fact, it was part of the contractual agreement to have an ending where they both "win." Hence, the eye wink.
There was another Bond game that came out in 2002 called Nightfire that also had a multiplayer mode... Oddjob was also one of the playable characters. They fixed his height... but they also gave him a unique throwable weapon, his hat, that was an instant kill. It wasn't even a one-time weapon, you just had to pick it up again and continue using it. For context, some shotguns weren't even an instant kill in Nightfire's multiplayer, in fact the only two weapons in the game that were an INSTANT kill was The Golden Gun, which was locked behind a game mode, or Oddjob's hat.
Nightfire ruled. The last level was impossible but the multiplayer was one of the best on the PS2 in my opinion
the soying over spiderman 2 killed a pretty good video, idk how anyone can think 2 was better than the first in anything other than gameplay variety.
One of my favorite examples of this trope is Magolor in Kirby Star Allies. He’s got an insanely diverse arsenal of attacks, including a screen-sized sword that can _shred_ bosses’ health bars. And if that wasn’t enough, he has a fully invincible guard (most characters take chip damage when guarding) and a teleport that can be stretched out long enough to just ignore certain bosses’ attacks. The Three Mage Sisters are almost as busted as Magolor, but they have to be unlocked by getting the good ending in the DLC campaign. Magolor is unlocked by simply playing through the main story

For a game known for it's absolutely broken characters, Freddy isn't even the strongest character in mk9. Funny enough, he's not even the strongest zoner, being beaten by both Kabal and Kenshi
Neat Video! Some things i would correct through - While Melee Pichu's self-damage doesn't help, it's actually just a minor weakness for the character - so much so that Pichu does fine in Ultimate despite having the same mechanic. The self-damage just isn't that much, and most of his strongest moves in melee (most notably Neutral Air) don't inflict self-damage. The bigger issues imo (which were buffed in Ultimate) were bad range on his attacks (a weakness shared by Pikachu) and lackluster damage output and kill options (Which pikachu has with Up Smash for high% and Up Air for low%), as well as an absolutely atrocious tech-roll. I'm not an Ultimate player, but IIRC Pichu had a very strong combo game and Forward-Tilt as a solid kill option before the nerfs which took away these weaknesses.

The thing about Oddjob is, in one of the next 007 games, called "Nightfire", its multiplayer mode also had Oddjob as a playable character. In that game, he had a special weapon which only he can use. Once per stock (if I remember right), he could throw his hat which just instantly kills any enemy it touches. I think it also had slight homing capabilities. I can't recall if he was also smaller in that game. So he was somewhat broken in 2 games, not just one.
Ya I was just about to comment that myself. I swear that heat seeker missile of a hat could just be launched across the map to get cheap kills on your older brother lol
I never thought i would hear music from "Spiderman friend-or-foe" in any video nowadays. Thank you
18:43 "and everyone was ecstatic about" More like violently disgusted. It was the precise moment I knew MK had decapitated the shark.
Oddjob gets another unfair advantage in another 007 game: Nightfire. While he's so short that his hitbox becomes a recurring issue to shoot at (that distinction belongs to Nick Nack in that game), he has a unique weapon to his arsenal: his hat. It's a one-hit projectile that regenerates over time.
This is such a nostalgically formulated video. I feel like its the early 2010s again. Sighs wistfully.
ah yes, we all knew the Man-Jaw self insert from Spiderman would be on this list
i find it really hilarious how you include starfield when you say its been a "monumental year for games." 😂
Hey Fallout 2 had a Sentient Deathclaw Companion named Goris He is always worth an honorable mention, and the fact we never get one of his grandkids as a companion later on saddens me
Dr. Mario is a hospital employee with a W2, regular Mario gets paid under the table in coins, who's got the higher net worth? The answer is Wario
