    • As good as Monty's performance was, I don't believe any goaltender ( except perhaps Hasek or Patrick Roy in their prime) is worth more than $$4.5 million a year. They come into their prime at about 25; and their reflexes and accumulated injuries up to 30 years old slow them down. Never make the goaltender the core player of your team and by no means hire a general manager who played as a defensive specialist. Montreal was a great example of that. Price was overpaid, and his new contract ran when there was nothing left of his performances. Bob Gainey was the GM in name and then behind the scenes and made Montreal into one of the weakest offensive teams in the NHL....why, because Gainey was a defensive specialist when he played for Montreal. At trade deadline every year a team can always rent a great goaltender for the playoffs. With a Cap you don't blow a lot of money on goaltending. Crosby, Ovi, and the other offensive players attract a viewing audience to the sport and have longer careers, while A Carey Price does not.

  • Monty has over time, shown he is a goaltender worthy of holding the number one position of goaltending with Montreal. It's so refreshing to see Montreal assign games to players who perform well and deserve the start. Montreal was burdened with Carey Price for 15 years. He was a hot and cold player who had 2 brilliant seasons. In the last 5 years of Price's career his play wasn't even good enough to be a backup goaltender. Price was given by his team one chance to be in the Stanley Cup finals. His teammates became a brick wall for Price setting records for defensive efforts. The Montreal players, played hurt and above their heads. In that Final series the team outplayed Tampa especially in the first 2 games but Price played like a junior b goaltender, letting softies in and deflating the entire team's efforts. It didn't help when Montreal had the worst coach ever hired for the franchise who insisted on playing a stone cold Carey Price in net's because Price was the Prima Donna. Price DID NOT earn those starts in the series for the Stanley Cup, the ownership and management broke the golden rule that brought the team those 24 Stanley Cups....which was the TEAM was more important than any one player and only those players who earned to play the game, would play. I have no question in my mind that Montreal would have won the Stanley Cup that year had Allen played in nets. But Allen and the team was never given that chance because the culture that ruined this franchise took over...giving players like Carey Price and Scott Gomez ice time when they didn't deserve it. Montreal lost Patrick Roy because of the absolute incompetence of Rejane Houle and Tremblay (who were both fringe players when they played) and petty stupidity. This new management is showing us that the team comes first over any player and I hope they stay true to this. That was the magic formula that brought Montreal 24 Stanley Cups.

But then there's Brad Marchand. And DiPietro. Pure filth and you just roll around in it and oink and screee. No moral compass.
