Oh my god you’re right. Why didn’t I think of this lol
Yep. I just want musket battles again..
That hits home way too hard
I know right? Otomo is ETW done right basically
Nah I just want to blow shit up and use badass muskets, ETW sucks. 0tomo forever.

I agree with you. The Shimazu have all what I like about the Samurai ... the red armor and ocus on Katana. their spirit (in game) is like that of a wolverine, or a honey badger, so they match my craziness lol
Otomo player : "praise Jesus,or you get guns and Jesus inside you"
"It is the job of God to forgive you, and it is my job to arrange a meeting!"
Another descriptions for date clan: The infantry version of takeda players who prefer mass foot soldiers charging enemies, but still opt for at least 4 yari cavalry for flanking. They also love waiting because it takes forever to travel the eastern lands.
Why do you think he said you love patient campaign? Because of that long ass territory of the Date
this is 100% true i prefer date for the easy start and kinda early stone (if you play quickly and aggressively) and its always alot of fun watching no-datchai charge from 1 side while cave destroys from the other
As a player who mains Uesugi, you can keep your money. We are proud to fight under the Bishamonten (毘) and Dragon (龍) uma- jirushi (banner). We fight for one of the most honorable and charismatic daimyos of the Sengoku period; the god of war himself, Uesugi Kenshin (Nagao Kagetora). He, despite being a young daimyo, was as formidable as Takeda Shingen in terms of generalship and administration and was one of the few who scored victories against the Oda clan (Battle of Tedorigawa). We’re not masochists. There is a saying during the Three Kingdoms about Liu Bei’s Shu, “the path of Heaven is hard.” We also tread the same path because of the stupid unholy Takeda-Hojo-Imagawa alliance. But, hey, at least the Uesugi wasn’t dumb to charge entrenched massed arquebusiers in battle.
takeda roasts
Uh...yea! Definitely not because I like money...and berserk sword-spear monks...
@@plot6520 weak roast tbh. The only reason Uesugi Kenshin is associated with the sohei was because he was a devout Buddhist. He only allied himself with the Ikko-Ikki sometime in 1575 because Nobunaga was becoming too powerful. Other clans have more prominent ties with monk sects than the Uesugi. Mori (Shogun TW got this right), Asai, Asakura, and Tokugawa had more prominent ties with sohei sects. As for the trade bonus clan trait, it's inspired by an incident of chivalry between Kenshin and Shingen. When rival daimyos (Imagawa?) conspired to deprive Kai, a land-locked province, of salt, Kenshin implored Shingen to source salt from Echigo. This appears as a dilemma in the game.
@@marvinm8343 How did I say anything as a roast? Those were my genuine reasons for playing the faction.

You're not alone
Not sure why Hattori don’t get more love. Your whole army gets Kisho training and you can do some bonkers stuff with that

Hattori player here, with massed armies of yari and bow ashigaru.
The better cavalry is a nice bonus, but what I love about Takeda is that sweet red armour. I also love the Date color scheme, dark blue and gold. That's how I paint my Dark Elf tabletop units. Or used to anyway.
Agreed, I love both their colors a lot!
As a catholic I always liked Otomo the most.. There is something really cool in Samurai crusaders..
Deus Vult!!
I always convert Shimazu
Deus Vult!
why not convert another clan then? the Takeda with their Cavalry are closer to what a Crusader would be.
Not a Christian but these heathens need to taste some Faith, Gunpowder & Steel.
After watching Kagemusha, I gained a new appreciation for the Takedas. Shingen was really a great warrior and it's one of the many tragedies of the Sengoku-jidai that he died besieging Noda Castle instead of fighting in battle.
I'm falling in love with the Takeda clan when I watched that film♥️
Great film (Kurosawa + George Lucas), Guns > Horses. Also if you haven't seen it, see "Heaven and Earth" (1990), will appreciate the Takeda & Uesugi relationship. Great depiction of the Battle of Kawanakajima.
It's a great movie. Keep in mind the events portrayed represent one popular theory of what occurred but should not be taken as historical fact. We know little about Shingen's use of body doubles and even less about when and where he died, only that the siege ended in a disastrous defeat for the Takeda who wouldn't push back out from Kai until Katsuyori disobeyed his advisors.
Playing as Shimazu. Christina fanatic who actually wanted to play as Otomo but their flag isn't a cross
Why don't just convert to Catholicism
As of this day i still play Uesugi, hoping to one day will win.

Ah the Otomo... I came for God, I stayed for guns... and then I got kinda sad that their victory cutscene wasn’t any different... I mean not even a cross in it to reward my many hours of crusading.
Currently on a uesugi run and I own all of eastern japan while managing against the Christians in the west. Honestly the easiest run I've ever done. It's all about forcing the other clans to your will. When they ask for peace, make them a vassal. should they refuse, take another province. Trade with them on top of the tribute. Bribe them to join your wars and let them die for you. Then retake the land they lost from the battered and weak clan that ended your vassal and then make the new clan your next vassal. I will restore shinto to all japan.... with the most dishonorable daimyo.
Shimazu: 0:13 Chosokabe: 0:38 Otomo: 1:10 Mori: 1:48 Hattori: 2:14 Ikko Ikki: 3:01 Oda: 3:40 Tokugawa: 4:11 Takeda: 4:33 Uesugi: 5:10 Hojo: 5:38 Date: 6:06
It's crazy that Uesugi is the most difficult clan in Total War but the easiest clan to reunify Japan in EU4.
Wake up, play Oda, relive the glory of a peasant army, day good
Don't forget the Ikkos absolutely busted starting position: 1. Having 2 provinces with an artisan for ranged and a blacksmith for melee units 2. You're close to Kyoto, so you don't have to conquer half of Japan to get your victory 3. Your core provinces are protected by 2 chocepoints (excluding naval invasions)
Hattori is actually a lot better than most give it credit for, and it's not because of ninja. Kisho training when used properly is very potent and can allow hattori to pull off a ton of nasty tricks and unusual army compositions. Those quirky tricks and their chaotic starting position makes them one of the most entertaining campaigns to play, even if the added expense of kisho training keeps them off the top of power rankings.
Yeah good points I mean again any player can dominate with any clan but that upkeep is too tough on those harder difficulties
@@TripleZHacker it's definitely a big factor, but not insurmountable. But yeah it will keep them overlooked by a lot of players
@@FShani of for sure veteran plays can deal with it but yeah generally most players have a tough time as them, their early game is decent though and there’s some options to deal with the Ikko and Oda, definitely a fun campaign like you mentioned
Agreed, had a good campaign with Hattori. Kisho allows for better terrain composition, such as in forests and to flank the enemy. Something that any samurai army should be able to do (Watch the epic series "Zipangu" for some good Oda and samurai content).
As a hojo player you forgot we also enjoy defensive sieges.
nothing beats the ol' "oh look, they're sendng their Daimyo up the wall now" feeling.
@@captainnyet9855 mhm indeed
As an Ottomo player I really enjoy defensive sieges. Those Tercos are just devastating if you find a good spot where you can put a double stacked Yari Wall in front of the wall. 300-400 kills are normal.
@@captainnyet9855 So true, in my game the Ai was dumb enough to send Takeda Shingen up the wall
I never really considered that the Uesugi were all that difficult. They have the best Daimyo imo.
I love Kenshin but they just have a tough early game imo and not much time to prepare or develop before it
@@TripleZHacker The worst part about the Uesugi are the Yamanouchi. If they didn't exist, it'd be a much more enjoyable campaign.
@@AvengerAtIlipa I just start the campaign by building an early fleet and army, then I sink the entire army of the honma when they're on sea with said fleet. Secure the island, which is one of the most profitable regions on the map and trade with everyone along the coastline, then when the Hojo or someone else declares war on my vassal I ofc come to there rescue... Unfortunately I just come one turn too late to help them defend but in an effort to avenge them I sweep the Hojo. So I end up with a line from the north right to the south coast. I make friends with the Takeda and whoever is on the west. Then I continue to sweep the east side. When I'm done with the Date I hold a third of Japan, you have about 15 regions and only need to look west. Make your military and economy ready for the push toward Kyoto and the realm divide.

They’re some of the best cutscenes in the whole total war series and ooof that’s cruel but also practical 😂
Hattori upkeep costs? We need higher upkeep costs so that we don't dominate with our hundreds of (incorrectly statted) Ninjas while also assassinating all your generals.
seems we are a rare breed, high levels of kisho ninja agents assassinate all generals and daimyo in your way, weakening the army morale fightibg withouy their leader so easy to break and if outnumbered, night battles are your forte dishing them one by one

Honestly, Uesiga is my favorite clan because of the challenge, but also their history, taking on the Takeda and allies, nearly killing the leader after ambushing him when the Takeda leader thought he was ambuahing the Uesigi, and the fact that their leader (not gonna slander his name) would have been the guy to stop the Oda clan if he didn't die early on, but he was a beast
Let other march. We RIDE, we FLY. Like STORM in the mountains we THUNDER in battle!
Uesugi was the 1st clan i won the campaign with, but I enjoy Tokugawa the most. After this film and your tier list I feel like i am some kind of masochist (Mori was my 3rd campaign xD)
My 1st as well! Someone who likes the unorthodox I see! Got to admit ikko ikki is tided for me. pirate naval monks or angry peasants with monks! The unit roster versatility of ikko ikki is undeniable. ronin are a trap mind. whistling arrows & war cry are so good! I personally don't oda shimazu et cetera as it is 1 or 2 unit's spammed.
I played a few clans before uesugi but they bored me to take pauses. 2nd was Hojo then 3rd completion ikko iki. I never completed the Hotori, fun to conquer but boring to play!
uesugi are so fun as you will not make the whole army monk warriors, monk bows & under rated though not great monk cavalry. I much prefer a varied unit roster. Edit: I have a personnel soft spot for mori & Hojo as their unintentionally poorly designed unique faction army units are meh/impractical to spam. variety is the spice of life.
I think a fair number of Shogun 1 vets probably played Uesugi first in Shogun 2. They were something of a fan favorite in 1 and a lot of a folks underestimated how challenging they would be in 2
As a Tokugawa player you got me. Legit roleplay so hard I make peace with Oda then ally with them and expand to the east for a bit.
I really liked how you not only placed jokes about every choice(as how it usually goes), but also made some genuine predictions based on your experience

I like Date because they allow me to charge cowards (with Bulletproof samurai) who use cowardly gunpowder weapons instead of steel.
the kisho training of hattori lets you go for hyper-aggresive nodachi-based armies that no other clan can afford to field, not even the date.
I like the Tokugawa the best... and you are right: I am a history nerd, who loves to play diplomaticly. XD But I also enjoy being in the underdog position with little buffs for my troupes. It forces me to be creative and I can find new ways to mess with the AI both in diplomacy and on the battlefield. Ieyatsu would be proud indeed! ;P
Ah yes an underdog position is a good way to put it and who doesn’t love an underdog!
Well yes, I do enjoy praising the Lord and shooting these cannons. And yes, we will make Kyoto a holy city
I managed to take Kyoto with 3 Tercos, 4 Donerbuss cav and 2 cannons. Was a long but fun fight kiting them around with the cav!
I've just finished my first serious campaign with the Date and I couldn't agree more
Uesugi is my favourite clan. Very satisfying to see Naginata Monks carve their way through any and all enemy infantry. The Bow monks take care of the rest. They are the only clan with which I almost lost a campaign. The biggest challenge I've faced in this game and hence the most enjoyable. Very rewarding experience when it is difficult. Part of the reason I love them is that I didn't think they looked very cool at the beginning compared to the Shimazu Samurai armies for example, but they completely turned it around for me when the monks started slaying everyone.
Man, first time I've seen the vanilla map in a while. Have been playing a Chosokabe campaign with the expanded Japan mod (among others) - the initial task of securing Shikoku was far from easy. I could have easily lost - held onto my capital by the skin of its teeth when I found myself at war with 3 of my 4 neighbouring clans. So different.
The campaign with mods is amazing so I don’t blame you for always sticking to expanded Japan!
@@TripleZHacker The first one I played on it was the Uesugi and... well, your video remains fairly accurate in that regard, lol
@@TripleZHacker I am now playing again, this time as the Uesugi again, and I've managed it better this time and rule half of Japan lol
So my first (maiden) campain in Shogun2 is Date. And I must admit that the slow build up and crush them gameplan was what I was trying to do xD. (Although I feel I still focus on honor as well)
as an avarage hattori enjoyer, I must say that we have NEVER ever skipped ninja cutscenes
Funnily enough I just started my first Hattori campaign and they just launched into a tied-for-first position as my favorite clan (other favorite is the Shimazu), with my next favorite after them being the Chosokabe, then the Otomo Still have more campaigns to go though
I think every clan will said this to me: "SHAMEFUR DISPRAY"
As a Chosokabe player, this is 100% accurate.
Oda was spot on. All you need is a few naginata samurai, a literal wall of yari ashigaru, and a mix of bow and matchlock ashigaru and you're unstoppable.
So glad I found your channel now that MrSmartDonkey has abandoned the Shogun ^^
Happy to make shogun 2 content and he’s a great creator though definitely watched most of his videos

Ikko is exactly me. Due to mods having wars on 3 to 4 seperate fronts and rebellions everywhere beyond my borders because of the faith is beautiful.

I played Shimazu first back in 1999, never had another favourite. Update. Do like the Otomo... like them indeed.
First time I ever beat the game was with Uesugi! It took a ton of restarts but once you're through the early game it's super rewarding with all the monks.
Ikko Ikki gang rise up !
ikko ikki is my favorite above all. i love doing "pike" and shot with ikko monks. always such an awesome sight, seeing the contrast of the fields of white topped zealots clashing with the vibrantly colored enemy forces. such a good freaking game
Hattori are so goated. No-Dachi banzai charge paired with the vanguard deployment has won me many a battle.
I wish there was a clan which has clanbuffs on Naginata Samurai.
Honestly, I mostly play as Tokugawa, bc I am a student of japanese Studies and history (so felt a little bit caught when you mentioned historians haha), and pretty annoyed if anything unhistoric happens. But I also like playing the oda or the Uesugi (I have a crush on sohei (warrior monks)). I've never played otomo, bc these are corrupted by the god of the southern babarians, but I like the Ikko-Ikki, religious fanatism is fun and like I said I have a crush on warrior monks. Expecially with Naginatas. Oh how I love Naginatas! But Bow Warrior Monks are also pretty cool.
As a uesugi/ikko ikki player i can relate to this video, i love monks and playing simulator of beaing most hated clan
Would be cool to make one about the Fall of the Samurai clans now
I love Takeda clan, wipe out every one with Takeda Fire cav, so they are my fav. Or Otomo and take japan in the name of the lord and Guns. Also, you explained me playing Takeda to well.

Surprisingly accurate. I am indeed a medieval 2 fan and I love Takeda. I mostly play them for the sexy armor color though.
Feel called out for the Hojo one, artillery is the queen of the battlefield.
That's some nice descriptions, I'll just add that we Shimazu players just find Kyushu too comfy and we can't resist it! I even go as far as not going into mainland Japan and do some invasions only to liberate vassals and help them taking over Japan for me... We're just that lazy. Or is it just me?

Well shit, you hit the nail on the head with Shimazu, I mainly like to play them and only use honorable tactics, no inciting revolts, and not even using boomsticks (a gun is not a weapon fit for a true warrior), I only use infantry tactics to win, which surprisingly works well in Shogun 2
