I mean, they were overpowered in Dark Souls 1, surely that trend continued, right?
...guys?
The reaper run continues into Dark Souls 2 as we try to beat all the games bosses, while simultaneously eradicating the world of all NPC life. Place your bets now on whether the bosses or the NPCs were harder.
Can you beat Dark Souls 2 with only Scythes? Time to find out.

I chose either the perfect or the worst time to upload my DS3 scythe only run, depending on how many more dark souls videos people want to watch lol
Best time, no doubt :)
I get the "it's easy and does alot of damage" reference it's from happy souls animation
Your vid came up legit the second video on the right while watching this one, so I guess one of the best, at least for me, since I was planning on watching that one next. 😁
Well now someone needs to release a scythe only run in bloodborne and Elden ring
Actually, you could have killed him without using firebombs. The piles of fire do damage.@@TheBacklogs
"kill all NPCs" runs are so much sadder in DS2, because filling up Majula with weird strays is my favourite thing.
actually true
Something fun about filling your home base with dudes
"Liberty speed your step helldiver" was a damn mental flash-bang XD
Music in the background is from Helldivers 2, awesome :D
10:30 Love a good Happy Souls reference

I don't know how well this would work, but when I saw your hours played in terraria in the "Lets talk about Dark Souls 1" video, I immediately thought: Terraria with firebombs/explosives only?
Soon (tm)
@@TheBacklogswhat about terraria but tools only (axes pickaxes and shit)
@@keyman245 too unchallenging, actually. explosives in terraria are clunky and you can't really build around them at all - but tools are melee weapons, so it's just your standard melee build with some really short weapons.
@@DanielFerreira-ez8qd The drills post-WoF are also pretty good.
Explosive bullets?
As an individual who is nearly completely blind the phrase youve got eyes always makes me chuckle. Great vid enjoyed it thoroughly :)
Out of curiosity, isn't there anything that can be done? Eye surgery has had insane progress in the last 8 years and the surgery itself is at around 3500-4000€, that's quite affordable. Sometimes even just 3000, depending on where you live. Because it would be great if you could regain your sight or improve it? Should be possible these days. Best of luck!!!
@andylaw3222 most surgeries focus on removal of cataracts or even the correction of the lense. My visual impairment is bexuase of malformed retinas so at present there is no solution unfortunately.

12:25 because the armor makes you heavier. It's trying to emulate real life logic, where if you fall with something heavy you fall with more force.
^ this
there is the reason why gravity is usually expressed in acceleration, not force
@@kkolyan373 I suppose I should have said impact with more force, but the point still stands.
@@kylegrefe4399 ah, then you mean energy of impact (force is for modeling process over time, not instant things like impact). okay, that may make sense. actually, being clad in armor gives you more acceleration than drag (braking agains air), so I believe the velocity of impact could be a bit larger when armored. also, if you land on legs, then armor without exosceleton-like frame increases the impact on legs even if velocity the same. or if you land on the side, and your armor is not paddded and is not hard-framed, then the armor chunks from the other side will squish body a bit, possibly making some harm. but, armor is usually padded, which is good for energy dissipation and hard armor distributes impact over the larger region of body, decreasing impact to the each part of region. and some sets of hard-framed armor could work as exosceleton, protecting legs from the weight of armor itself. so... I think, it's maybe easier to break a limb or ribs when land on that limb when you wearing armor with heavy non-linked parts. but I really doubt that armoring increases chance of death due to fall from critical height (which is relevant to the case of dropping to majula pit).
@@kkolyan373not to mention fabrics also increase your fall DMG in ds2 but would have little to no impact irl detrimental or otherwise

Well that was fun! Another killer vid, Lemon! About getting naked reduces fall damage: I think, total weight of the character somehow (as in "I dunno the exact equation") adds to fall damage taken. Idea is something like jumping down with 40kg backpack and without it. Also about Ivory King DLC - the weapon durability goes down faster there by default, as far as I remember. Something about "freezing cold makes weapons brittle" or whatever
I think what I love most about Lemon's videos is that I can always learn life lessons no matter the game or the challenge. Today's episode was all about Death and letting go, for example.
I thought it was about swimming?
That helldivers 2 ost at 34:27 caught me off guard!! Really well done, i would have never imagined a ds2 character falling into the chamber of the Ivory king with the HD2 deployment music hahaha
It's got multiple layers to it, too. Helldivers the game ost, but he specifically said, "We dive, so humanity survives," which is the motto of the Helldivers in the book series by the same name. There is no connection to each other besides the name, though. Absolutely threw me for a loop.
"Au contraire", "C'est la vie", as a French it pleases me to hear Lemon speak our beautiful language. Keep being my favorite non-french KZheadr :D
Even if Lemon does eventually stop doing Dark Souls altogether, it's not gonna stop me from watching immediately when he does. (Edited for clarity) Edit 2: I give up. I'm excited when lemon uploads DS, alright?
So just not immediately xd
Right? It's the sass and personality of Lemon's that keeps me here
He’s got enough to keep him busy till retirement.
How would you watch them if he stops doing them?
what
14:40 I think this is actually a scyte reforged in a way that is more functional as a weapon. Also fun fact - Polish peasant using scythes set like that in uprisigns used to be called scythemen
If you are talking about the scythe that doesn't look like a scythe. That's a war scythe. The first war scythes were just scythes with their blades mounted in parallel with the handle instead of perpendicular like normal scythes.
That isn't a scythe. It's a bardiche. A war scythe is an actual separate thing that came about as an evolution from what DS2 incorrectly calls a great machete.
@@Raggrum This is not, in fact, a war scythe. It's a Bardiche, a completely separate type of polearm. It also bears mentioning that War Scythes never were just scythe blades attached to the handle differently. An actual scythe blade would both be too heavy and be almost guaranteed to break if you tried to use it like that. War Scythes had always been forged as weapons, the name stemming from a superficial resemblance.
I was quite surprised Death left Ornifex alive, and thought she might get the scythe of want, but she did not, and left Ornifex alive for no apparent reason.
Imagine Death forgetting you're still alive
18:45 YOU CAN JUMP TO THAT FROM THERE?!?!? Lemon, you have changed my life for the better. Sincerely, from the deepest depths of my soul, where the 4 kings live, I thank you for this True Boon of Knowledge. You are truly one of the best. Thank you, Lemon.
There's a different way to jump there? I've always done that jump since day 1 😅
@@STARSRav3n I went across the bridge to jump from the opposite side. I just never realized you could jump to there from specifically that ledge. So weird
The Ivory King actually taught me to use weapons in my left hand for PVP because of how much it threw people off. It's pretty crazy how well it works. It's a shame Aldia's fight is so simple because he's probably the most interesting NPC in the franchise bar-none. Pretty much the only individual to ever break any of the game's cycles guaranteed other than the DS2 protagonist if they make the special crown.
18:30 "Ahhh you deny your weapon its purpose Jack!"
Randomly came across your channel from all the dark souls vids I watch, and you have one of my favourite presentation styles. It's so chill. Glad to see the challenge runs aren't over yet. ❤

I’m a simple man. I see one of my most nostalgic games being played by one of my favorite creators, I click. I enjoy.
Hello Lemon :D I don't usually get to see your videos this soon after they are released so I wanted to say I have been binging almost all of your challenge runs and I love your videos
Theses are really fun to just listen to at work. It's like a story time. Telling the epic a run long long ago
This was a great one, loved the references, and its great to see you back in the souls universe🤟
Killing Lucatiel is a sin that can't be forgiven, even if committing to the theme of the run. Just do her questline and let her time come naturally 😭
All it took was a sacrifice to the firebomb goddess to start the run, guess the scythe you got from it was her punishement Very interesting run still, I didn't know McDuff also used a log as his weapon of choice lol
I’ve recently discovered this guys challenge runs and been binging them. Nice to see a new one
DS1 with Scythes was my favorite video of yours. I am so glad you decided to continue the showcase.
Where does this man come up with such raw lines??? “Purpose is an invaluable thing, and you have lost yours”
Let's fucking goooooo, made it on the Firebomb Scholar wall
I appreciate how you not only roleplayed death during this run due to your weapon of use, but also roleplaying the reaper through your commentary.
Had a feeling you'd show up again, Made my day a bit better. :)
The damage inflicted by a weapon may be partly proportionate to your stamina and the angle from which the character attacks an enemy. I recently noticed that when going through Sir Alonne's area. A single, two-handed R2 of my club would insta-kill an enemy if my stamina was full or nearly so but would not quite insta-kill the enemy if my stamina was much lower. I noticed that with your character. It would make sense since the character has less determination and energy behind lower stamina attacks. That shows the depth of FromSoft's thinking in its combat design.
when you attack, and the attack uses up more stamina than you have. you deal less damage
@@numbersbubbleI know this is a thing in DS2 but is it also present in the other games? Because in Elden ring I could swron damage doesn't care about your stamina
Weapons also have "sweet spots" so if you hit them with a handle of a halberd it does less damage than if you hit them with the blade
Have no idea if you will se this but the scythe in 14:44 is a war scythe that people would use in battles the great scythe is a farming tool.
It's not a War Scythe though. It's a Bardiche.
Ah, another Dark Souls II challenge run video. What a pleasant gift to get. And it's as great as always.
I know crafting is a thing in Elden Ring so I had an idea. Elden Ring with only crafted items. You may use a bow since you can craft arrows but that might let you use a high powered bow. Instead I say use the bow from your starting class and only that one. Best part: You can probably craft every type of fire bomb and fire bomb adjacent item under the sun.
unfortunately according to what he's said in the past (unless he changed his mind) the only ER run he'll do is Firebombs and it'll be a 100% run iirc.
Oh cool my other comment is hidden Thanks KZhead
A sickle. It’s called a sickle. Edit: I was overzealous.
it's too bad you didn't get to use nashandra's scythe.
I love the warhammer reference! Blood for the blood God, skulls for the throne! I just started reading the 40k books. Love the videos.
Finally set aside time to watch this. Lemon, you are great. May your patience ever unwavering, and your firebombs burn bright for the goddess!
I always like these kinds of challenge runs, where its not some struggle to see if its even possible to do it (I still enjoy those) but where its just playing the game a little differently and seeing what happens when you do it
Love It! I personally try to do my first Souls Playthroughs always with scythes.
Loved the cult of the lamb track in the background( at a certain part).
That was a nice Khorne reference, I'm proud of you, laddie!
Had no idea you could get to the queen in elaum. Learn something new about my favorite games all the time from you, lemon 🍋! Thank you
I knew I remembered that song! Went afk a ton in cult of the lamb. Oddly fitting for a scythe run.
26:50 Dr. jekyll and Mister Hyde reference. Got to love it when you know it
Oh god, this brings back memories. I played through ds2 twice, once normal and once new game plus. And on new game plus my weapon became a scythe (the one from the boss soul) and i loved using it.
Hell yeah! I just came from work and my dude lemon drops a new video. Greatings from argentina!!!!
the fact you have helldivers music playing when you dived into "hell" really caught me off guard. well done Lemon! can i expect to see challenge runs of a "beating an entire level 9 mission using nothing but fire nades?"
Lemon. Ive fallen asleep to your voice once again. Why must you be so calm and soothing. Anyways great video. Wish i couldve stayed awake to watch it all.
Got a soft spot for death themed runs, thanks for another fun one mate
The helldivers reference upon entering the Burnt Ivory King boss fight was pretty great
Well, you made this look a lot easier than the live stream. Excited to see what the last game offers.
I love listening to Jespar Dal'Varek speak to me about his challenge runs in Dark Souls. Enderal challenge run next pls
Happy Souls was such an iconic piece of media
I've been missing the lemon dark souls challenge vids and one has finally arrived, one that I really enjoyed because scythes are just awesome I'm pleasantly surprised though that ds2 being the first large boss amount souls game there's only 3 scythes compared to the usual one or two of each game ig at the end of the day it's similar to it's brethren
That Cult of the Lamb tune fits your video style so well.
Lemmon listen, I watch you for your style of explaining things as it's calming and great to sleep to
I made a whole grim reaper build in DS2 and learned alot about how the scythes work in the process. They have a 'shaft' hitbox and a 'blade' hitbox, the blade doing buffed damage, and the shaft doing debuffed damage. Its more consistant than it seems, but it depends on the scythe, some of them have much smaller 'blade' hitboxes than others, but its all about getting familiar with your scythe of chocie and learning the proper spacing for its blade to hit more often than its shaft.
Love the vids and the one thing i know you love more than the vids is fire bombs. There's this metroidvania soulslike i picked up a week or so ago called Last Faith that guess what, has firebombs, and actually loads of other bombs too. Would love to see if you could beat the game with those only
Great video as always! Also, would absolutely love to see a Majora’s Mask without a sword vid 11:37

Literally just started DS2 for the first time ever today and you upload DS2, perfect
How's the run goin
Loved the Parks and Rec joke thank you 😆
As someone who had a reaper only pvp build with sorcery enchants, usually the damage sweet spot is where the point of the reaper hits. For hitting around shields, you have to actually position yourself so the point of the reaper hits around the shield. Too close? Blocked. Too far? Hit the handle so it does no damage. Took me around 100 hours to get this down. But when you get it down, it is honestly one of the best weapons in the game in my honest opinion.
I dunno if its just been one of those weeks, but hearing Lemon say "hope youre doing well" in his lively, friendly tone genuinly made me grin
Thank you for blessing us again lemon
0:22 "I just always want to play the game at a slower pace, ya know?" Famous last burns.
