We Biked Through Germany's Most Beautiful Forest. Linderhof Palace, Oberammergau, Ettal Abbey
Join us for part two of our long weekend in the Ettaler Forest. In today's video, we rent bikes from our home base of Oberammergau, riding to the the nearby town of Ettal. This Tony village boasts a huge monastery which (of course) brews beer. Next we ride through some of the most stunning scenery we have seen since moving to Europe, the Ettaler Weidmoos. Finally, we finish the ride, arriving at Linderhof Palace. Famously inhabited by the infamous Ludwig II, we tour the little palace, and explore the gardens. Subscribe for part three where we experience some traditional German wellness.

Danke sehr! :')
Biking through a Bavarian forest. Grab a beer at an epic monastery. Get back on the bike and go to a beautiful Schloss. And then sharing it with the world. What a great video guys. Well paced; great info; amusing moments (“I forgot it was Sunday!”); and epic views. Looking forward to the next one! Now…to get on my bike and get back into shape so I can follow in your tire marks! 😂
Thanks so much! We put A LOT of work into the videos, so your comments really means a lot. Hope you make it out there. The Ettaler Forest is our new favourite!
You both are the best guide to seeing the places around us. I am here in Munich for 23 years, but still don't know enough!
That you so much! I will say, it is kinda hard to find this stuff. There’s just not a lot of helpful information.
I will be keeping my eyes open next week! I arrive in Muenchen on Tuesday 29 August 2023. I will greet you if I see you!
:D perfekt
I admire your respect and reverence for the monastery.
thank you
My standard day tour - yes by car!!! Munich -> Andechs Monastery/Brewery -> Hohenschwangau + Neuschwanstein Castles (just bus to Marienbrücke & walk down - no tour) -> Füssen Castle ->, Reutte (Austria) to buy snacks for picnic .... 180° turn back up to spectacular Plansee for swim/picnic -> Linderhof Castle -> Oberammergau for bit of Kitsch -> Ettal Monastery for beer -> past Garmisch Partenkirchen to autobahn back to Munich. Exhausting.
Honestly. If you enjoy it, then I’m happy for you, but I would never recommend anything like this personally. I suppose I view the mission of this very channel to be convincing people to slow down and take the train.
@NearFromHome It's for friends who only have a day. Each of stops is worth a day of its own. Oh....and nowadays I do it with electric car!
@@NearFromHome Maybe some time explore Fuessen and surroundings. Stunningly beautiful.
Great video! Hearing more of Camille’s takes in the last few has been nice too.
Thanks so much!!
Tolles Video! Macht weiter so!
Danke! :D
Thanks for the trip through my happy place. Linderhof is also my favorite of Ludwig's palaces and have visited it a number of times (hopefully the grotto will reopen soon so you'll need to plan a return trip). Having been fortunate to live in Oberammergau (dependent kid of a US Military father), this area has special meaning and seeing it through your lens just puts a smile on my face.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
You need to visit Baden Wurttemberg too! Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Freiburg or even better !!!!! ->>>>> „Schwarzwald“. Also Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Füssen in Bavaria, maybe Regensburg too.
We want to, especially Heidelberg. We actually have videos on Rothenburg, Füssen, and Freiburg. Currently editing a video about Regensburg.
Gosh I so wanna walk through this. I’m an Oregonian, the German outdoors look eerily similar to what we have here 😂 Minus the public transportation and castles plus history. I can’t wait to be there !
It is really nice!! Hope you can make it out here!
Great content. Far from the touristic spots. As a Bavarian I really enjoy all this nature, hiking everywhere, lakes, mountains, scenery, biking... Oh, yes: the beergardens, the food, beer, wine and currently is Federweisser season. It´s grape juice on it´s way to wine and it´s sparkling naturally.
Thank you so much! That means a lot to us coming fro a Bavarian. :D
Awesome video. Ebikes make it much more manageable. Ettal Abbey is a hidden gem. Linderhof will def get you to become a palace person!
Nice to hear from you again! Yes! I don't see the point of using a normal bike, unless you are a hobby cyclist. I think it really did work to make me a palace person. haha
We love your videos. You always inspire us to go out, travel more, and create more. Thanks for making such great videos. PS: Thanks for sharing the bike path, it looked great for a fun outing.
Thanks so much! 🥰🥰🥰 That really means a lot
What a fantastic video! Your content and image quality are always absolutely great! But didn’t you visit the Venusgrotte (Venus Grotto), the Moroccanisches Haus (Moroccan House), the Maurischen Kiosk (Moorish Kiosk) and the Hundinghütte (Hunding’s Hut) in Linderhof Park? I wish you continued success with your great channel!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. We did visit all of those areas in the Linderhof grounds. Unfortunately we have to structure a lot of our videos around watcher retention as it affects the YT algorithms likelihood of showing the video to new viewers. Including them in the final edit would have made a very long video which raises the likelihood of lower retention. :O
Ben, can You tell what did you use to film this video or any other on your channel please? So insane quality 👍🏼📷📹
@@jewczukpawel1 For this video, just an iPhone and go pro! lol. On sunny summer days, the quality is actually much better than you would expect. Often times when I am talking to the camera, I use a Sony A74.
Love your videos. Can’t wait to see them each time you put them up. We are going to be in the Munich area in November for the Christmas markets. Maybe we’ll see you around.
Thank you so much! That really means a lot. We did see a few subs last year 😅
This looked like the perfect day! So picturesque
🥰🥰🥰
Your videos are the best! Although I’ve never seen someone be so put off by cars. 😂
Just one look at what they’ve done to our towns, villages, and cities. Unfortunately, the invention of the personal vehicle brought about a myriad of awful policy and design decisions that lead to a lot of structural damage. There is probably a nice way to include cars within our society, but we didn’t and haven’t found it yet.
@@NearFromHome Ah, so it’s an overall feelings against cars. Your reaction was so strong that I thought perhaps these villages had recently changed from a no-car policy to a newer policy of allowing vehicles.
Brilliant video. Not sure if at Linderhof you took in the grotto ? It's worth a trip on its own...maybe something for the future. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much! We went to all the stuff around the palace, we just didn't film it. We were worried the video would be too long. lol
@@NearFromHome incredible little addition to Linderhof. My dad would have questioned why one man's dream would have to be funded by taxing the little man. Certainly a different valid view bit I for one am glad it was.
Yeah we definitely don't stan the aristocracy, But we have been vocal about these palaces in other videos. @@grahamkennerly5963
Another valuable video. My only complaint is you don't release enough videos! :)
Thanks so much! We’re really trying to release a video a week, but it takes soooo long to film and edit at the quality we want. 😭
@@NearFromHome I understand but I'll be in that area in less than three weeks so I need you to work overtime! Schnell! ♥️♥️♥️
Hahaha luckily are final video from the area is just about German Wellness culture shocks, so there isn't any really information on the area. We did do a traditional mud bath at Kur- &Vitalhotel Sonnen in Bad Kohlgrub if you want to look into it. lol@@Chris.Plunkett
Great - Thank you!@@NearFromHome
Wonderful video! The e-bikes looked so fun, and the palace was gorgeous, even though we aren't palace people either. We REALLY need to make it down to Bavaria!!
The daytrip by ebike is shockingly good! Let us know when you make it down to Bavaria. :D
OMG Linderhof is my favourite palace! I liked it SO much better than Neuschwanstein.
Thanks so much! Glad someone agrees!
Great biking vid. The most boring part of the scenery was still pretty beautiful. LOL I loved the slow reveal of the mass in the monastery. I’m in the market for an eBike and glad to see you guys riding them. How did you like it?
Thanks so much! It was really fun to make! 🥰 We LOVE e-bikes. They’re great if you are not a serious cyclist. They help you explore some really great areas faster and easier.
Love your videos. Theres so much enthusiasam, very fine locations and interesting informations! But why only the south of Germany? Whats about the North, North-West, Eastern-Germany???
I’d be happy to do more in the rest of Germany, but I do live and work in Munich, not to mention this is all incredibly expensive and being such a small channel we make essentially no money from any of this :) so perhaps as we grow we can branch out more and more to different locations. That’s what I’d really like to do. But we need to grow more for it to make sense.
Have you considered doing a video on Innsbruck?
Yes! :D Making these videos is expensive and time consuming, so we haven't gotten around to it yet. :')
@@NearFromHome Awesome we (me, wife, and two sons 3&6) are coming to Munich and leaving out of Zurich in June 2024 for 16 days. So your content is very useful for our trip consideration. We are considering hotel bases in Munich (5 days), Salzburg (2), Innsbruck (3), Interlaken (4), Zurich (2)
My dear do know or remember if that palace Linderhof come in movie please ❓🥀
sorry, I do not know if it was a filming location
what kind of camera are you using?
Sony A74 for the vlog sequences, and just the latest iPhone for everything else!
What are you saying as you pass others on the trails?
Servus! It Bavarian for hello :D
@@NearFromHome Thank you! I thought it was "excuse me" at first. Thanks again!
How far do you get on the bike battery? About 35-40km? Or do you turn off the "e" or r they extended batteries? You seem to get some long distances or maybe it's the editing 😉
Hi, I don't remember how far theses particular bikes get you, but they were more than enough for a ride from Oberammergau, to Ettal, to Linderhof and back. We just had to recharge them in the hotel every night. These sites are actually much closer together than you'd think! We movie magic some things, but we were very lucky to have nice bikes that could take us where we wanted to go!
“We Stan Anti-Fascist Monks” 😂 We do too! That’s why I support FC Sankt Pauli!
😅😅
