Fire in the Masonry Stove | Start to finish
Turn your TV in a fireplace. This fire was recorded on Thursday 21 December in my cabin. There was a severe storm going on, which you sometimes hear in the background.
A masonry stove works a bit different than a conventional cast iron wood stove. It is designed to burn a fire as hot and as fast as possible, in one go, without adding more wood during the burn. The hot air goes through extended flue channels that heat the masonry, before it reaches the chimney. More so than the fire itself, the masonry will warm the space long after the fire is burned out. The amount of wood that is stacked depends on the outside temperature. This fire is about 2/3 or the capacity the stove can handle. If it is really cold outside I burn two fires a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. The fire is lit with small kindling from the top. This allows the bigger logs on the bottom to slowly heat up and catch flame as the fire progresses, resulting in a very hot and smokeless fire that keeps the chimney clean.

Who needs Netflix when you have Martijn?
Truly so. Quality video here! This young an is a wonder. Creative, clever well spoken …an Artist. A Renaissance man.
Lol, omg
I don't watch TV, I have Martijn❤
Agreed
Beautiful fire. Only wish I could feel the heat!
If only we had smell Vision! I love your fireplace. I love everything you’ve done in that cabin.
Martijn should invest in a Smell-o-scope, so that we can sniff on your smell-o-visons tm.
I thought the same- too bad we can't feel the heat or smell the burning wood! Maybe someday technology will catch up!
You don't smell burning wood from a correctly installed stove.
All around best content creator on the net!
While the wife and kids were out, I played this with my TV ambient lighting to match the fire colours, and had a great nap on my sofa!
The stone masonry work that you have done around the stove looks incredible. The way that you incorporated the stove into the stairway was brilliant. Everything is coming together really great. I'm not sure what I will do on Sunday mornings until you come back from visiting family. You are part of my Sunday routine for over a year now. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and have a safe journey back. Watching from North Carolina.
Ditto. 👍🏻
Wonderful Christmas treat. Intending to have the crackling fire many times
Thank you. I hope your holiday gives you restoration, inspiration, love and many, many moments of joy.
Quite a dragon living in that firebox! Great stove, beautiful hearth, happy family season.
Well, the weather outside was frightful, but your fire was so delightful...
FANTASTIC. I cozied up and fell asleep at 32 minute mark. lol. Nice going Martijn.
I love it when the whole fire is shown from start to finish. Great video.
Only came across this recently. Very clever and talented man. Cant wait for each Sunday to arrive. Love it.
At first I thought all the wall was original from the early XX century. Just now I realize you built the stove and stair part by yourself. My compliments, you are a good carpenter, better than many professional ones.
Martin you made a phantastic stove. You can be proud about your work. He works and looks like a painting.
I love putting a fireplace on my tv while I am reading a book or chilling. This one will be so special Martijn!
This is going to get many millions of views over the years. Smart move to make it and also smart to explain how and why it works the way it does and why the top down fire (less smoke and also dries out lower larger wood so when it catches fire it burns clean and the top down flames pull the air “up” past the lower logs so that there isn’t any kind of bottleneck in airflow
And when I first saw it I saw it as a wonderful gift to his subscribers.
@@DaniElleBeesBuzzthat’s what I wrote but using more words and mostly focusing on how smart it is to light fire top down to keep the system clean from soot/sap buildup. I also love this and want Martin to succeed financially and also just in general. It’s “ok” for him to make a living being an artist.
Sometimes we forget that we’re always learning from others and doing things in different ways. The reason I subscribe to KZhead channels is to learn new things, improve, or combine techniques. Not just to kill time.
I was going to suggest he make a video like this. A couple of hours of recordings from the stone table outside at different seasons would also be very relaxing. I love listening to stuff like this in the background while reading.
A channel called DelTheTope also has really nice long video's of campfires. It's really pleasant to look at and it being a real fire works so much better than the looped video's.
So glad you could spend this stormy night in your cabin, instead of in your tent!!
what an incredible gift of spirit Martijn has!!! What an incredible surprise today to find this beautiful beautiful fire can just picture myself sitting in his chair there with a glass of wine and enjoying that fire.! thank you thank you thank you
Thank you for the "JUL LOG" ...♨️ the "dancing flames and crackling sound" warm my heart, and I could look at it for hours ...😊 May that "peaceful image" stay with you during the trip , making it much smoother and faster. 🔥🔥🔥 🔥 👍🏼 Compilación de nieve ❄️❄️❄️
Beautiful and mesmerizing... perfect timing ... thank you for the cozy, warm, and peaceful stream. Merry Christmas!
There's nothing like "Home,Sweet Home"...always in the peace, and quiet of the Country !...
Now we all can have your beautiful fire in our houses as well. Thank you Martijn.
Very smart to make such a video, people always have and always will love to just stare at a fire and lose track of everything for a bit, to just be.
Enjoying this during an ice storm in Missouri. Thank you Martjin
سعيد بهذا الدفء بعد برد قاسي لفتره طويله تحياتي لك وبرافو علي مشاركتنا هذا الفيديو الجميل
You can look at the fire forever and never get tired of it. Looks nice. Thank you.🔥🔥🔥🔥
Het is en blijft een mooi stukje arbeid wat je verricht heb Martijn, PRACHTIG.
I used to heat my home with a Buck stove. It's a lot of work, and messy, but there's nothing better than a cozy fire in the fireplace! Great job
this is what life's all about, something so simple but yet so satisfying
Oh gosh! I got your book "Two years on a bike" and I have been reading it with a fireplace on Netflix playing on tablet next to me. I will continue in a moment, but with fire from your stove! Thank you!
Oh my goodness! I just realized how relaxed I was only just.3 to 4 minutes in. This is a genius idea it might be on my playlist forever lol. Thank you so much
I love this video and it feels so nice to have it uploaded now. I never miss one. Merry Christmas and Happy Everything to everyone‼️ From sunny Florida 🌴🌴🌴🌴
I have told my husband of 46 and half years I'd like a fireplace. Now I have one and I'm saving it. THANK YOU, MARTIJN!
Humans have always seemed memorized by a fire, this took me back to many fires in our outdoor fireplace or wood burning stove. I miss them both. Enjoy your holiday Martijn.
Just found you Totally appreciate the life your building around yourself, Bliss 😊 Thank you for the simple attention to detail necessary to do what you are doing. See you in 2024 💙 Alanna Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺
You don't know how many of these full burn videos I've enjoyed.. this one means more than I can express..
It must be a very satisfying feeling to look at every stone in that fireplace and to know you created something so very beautiful.
Gets warmer even by watching it. Enjoy Martijn! You done a great job.
Happy Christmas to you all
I haven't been sleeping well lately, but so relaxing to see & hear, it's sure to help. I can't thank you enough 🙏 stay well, Martijn.
Awe. Thank you so much. I enjoy the fire with my dinner. I live alone and this was very comforting. I sat and played cards for a bit then cozied up on the couch. Merry Christmas and bless you in the new year. I'll be watching 😊
Who is cold 🥶 when you can keep warm at this masterpiece of woodstove build?! 😮
Been a subscriber since Ep.5. Also been looking for a natural fire to stick on my TV over the Christmas break that includes a natural surround. You’ve delivered again Martijn! Thank you for all the content and I wish you a great 2024.
If you are looking for more natural fire video's you should give those from DelTheTope a watch!
No lie, I burst into tears when I saw this pop up on my feed. (Yes I’m going through something but I probably would have still cried!) Ever since the masonry stove has been finished and we get a glimpse of the fire in it in each episode, I have wished that I had a long video of it to play in the evenings. I never thought we would actually get one!! This channel - and more accurately, this little piece of land somewhere in the Italian Alps - is such a comfort to me, it feels like home. I needed this so much. Sorry to sound melodramatic. I hope someday Martijn will sell prints of his (and in a non-material sense, our) cabins and homestead. It is my happy place and I love it. Thank you so much for this!!
I’m with you! Home sick with Covid and this was an incredible gift! Hope things go better for you
@@tammyjarvis3699 You too! Hope you start feeling better soon ❤️
An actual anxiety reduction technique is to take a mental vacation. Visualize your peaceful place, yours, yours alone. It may be a bungalow on the beach, a cabin near a waterfall in the woods, or a stone homestead in the Alps. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and fully *be* there. Use your senses. See, hear, smell, touch, even taste your surroundings. A video like this is an excellent start. Christmas blessings, all.
In hyperreality it is a very crowded place by now: I feel it is a home too! 😆 you verbalize what many are thinking. Many of us are Longing for a piece of Paradise 😍
Wow a bonus for Christmas. We so enjoy our fire place! We have a special fan that turns by the force of the heat generated in the stove. This spread warmth through the entire cabin. Thank you for this special treat!
Oh My Gosh I was not expecting this Treat Martijn…….Thank You for sharing this with all of Us
Best Channel in the world
Indeed I agree ☝️
I would have me an easy chair, lamp and a good book in front of that fireplace. What a relaxing place.
You gave me a fright! Thought you’d had a fire!!
Het mooiste vuurwerk, traag, natuurlijk en zonder gevaar. Dank je.❤
My room starts to heat up when I watch this. Wonderful.
Every time you post a new video I look forward to watching it, thanks! Be safe as you travel in this holiday
My favorite channel. His work is so detailed and lovely
Hope the fire in the masonry stove did the trick in keeping you and the entire cabin warm, especially during the storm. I can hear the wind at times in the background. Hope the chicks are warm too. I know you set up a heating system in the coup for them. The fire is comforting.
This background sound while I work is so relaxing! Funny how such a simple thing can be so appreciated. Have a wonderful holiday Martijn!
Thank you for this video, and thank you for suggesting Johannes' videos...just started his first one, and I know they are going to be good. Now we have two really excellent channels! :)
Oh baby yes! The Johannes video is fabulous. Amazing quality, inspirational, deep and fun too 🤩
Greetings from Ontario Canada Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year. All the best for 2024 Thank you for all the wonderful videos
Wishing the best for 2024. Happy that you share the experience. You are a remarkable young man, your family must be proud of you. Thank you for the wonderful view into your life.❤
Brilliant! Starting a fire, let the camera do its work and send the result to the amazed community! ☺️
Aw, Martijn, this is fabulous!! Thank you for making this video for us!! From the very first fire in the stove, I thought how great it would be if you made a start to finish video of just the fire. And here you are doing it! So cozy and beautiful!! Feel like we’re sitting there with you 😊
Masterpiece! Thank you❤ to the library of favorites from favorite Martijn🔥
Definitely the right way to fire a mass heater, from the top, not the bottom. We apply this same technique to our outdoor fire pit and it is so much more enjoyable, not a whole lot of smoke. As always, beautiful video. Merry Christmas to all, or whatever you celebrate 😊
True, but I can't help but think he is cutting his wood way too small. When a fire really gets going, you need to fuel it with heavier, larger, un-split logs. When a fire gets up to temp, you're just gonna blaze though all that smaller split stuff.
@@girlnorthof60 Maybe, but the wood stack against the wall would lead me to believe otherwise. Its all split pretty small. Either way, I would never doubt Martijn doesn't know what he's doing :)
:) @@hazbutler
He forgot the Christmas carols playing in the background. A perfect Christmas video 😊
You can endlessly look at 3 things: how fire burns, how water flows, and how another person works. 😊
I agree with this statement...🤔
Thank you Martijn for shareing it with us! It is the most beautiful thing that i have seen in a long time! Fire is light, is peace, is power and warm, and so many other things! It made my life better, thanks for it, hope you do well and see you on the next video🙏👍👏🤗
Watching Martin create beautiful works is inspirational and watching this channel is quite relaxing as well
So wonderful to sit and watch this fire burn in that masonry stove from beginning to end and reflect on all the work that’s happened from the very beginning until now. I’ve watched all the videos and enjoyed them so much and this is a nice little stop at a station. Where we can rest and enjoy a major milestone. The work will begin again after the new year. Thank you so much for all the wonderful videos. I love your production and sense of beauty in the way you shoot the videos and combine them with such beautiful music. See you next year.
The masonry stove is fantastic, as was your execution in building it! I remember an earlier design concept which involved pipes in the slab, and electric pumps pumping water which would've been heated in a coil in the chimney and a boiler... very complicated, lots of moving parts and valves. This huge masonry mass, including the staircase and floor slab, all isolated from the building and ground, is simple and brilliant, and as you report, it works perfectly, keeping the whole cabin at an even temperature for long periods. The oven in which you baked that first beautiful loaf of bread, works as designed, as well. Cutting that first loaf of bread made me salivate. :-) Kudos to the Temp Cast people and you, for creating the perfect solution for heating this beautiful cabin. And thanks for the video of the fire. I have it up on the big projection screen here in my space... Toasty!
asmr uploads? Go Martjn!
Bet the chickens would like to be there!
Many thanks for this gift Martijn!
🙌Will start using this as my cozy second screen video to support you!
Thank you for sharing the cozy warmth of your fire. I can feel it all the way over in Wisconsin, U.S. 💙🌀🌎 Merry Christmas, Martijn!🎄🎅🏻
Great job, Martijn! Looks superb, fabulos like in fairy tales!
Thank you Martijn, that is beautiful 🤗
This is so lovely. Until I saw your fires, I'd never watched one burn from the top down before. I'm used to building them from the bottom up, in a traditional wood stove. I began to watch this late last night and was nodding off, so I shut if off and went to bed. I had the most restful sleep I've had in a long time. I will watch the rest this evening. It's beautiful.
In terms of producing top notch content with minimum input, this could be the best production ever. Absolutely brilliant. Happy holidays Martijn and everyone else!
Excellent spot to stay warm.
Yes! Perfect New Year's Eve nightclub visuals! 🎉
Perfect setting for us that don't have the ability of a beautiful mood setting fire. Perfect timing too as I'm about to sit down to write down my intentions for the year.
Greetings from Ghana! As a holistic psychologist and a subscriber since video one, this very video is especially cathartic what with all the wordless time in front of such a silky elegant fire. The icing on the proverbial cake is that you can get revenue from such a win-win endeavor where you and we who view are concerned. One wonders whether your life is every bit as remarkable off camera as it comes across on camera. Well done!!
Wow this is fabulous!!! House is looking warm & cozy!!
I am so comforted watching the fire. What a beautiful fire place you have built and you can bake bread and more wow
Thanks for your videos, accompanied me every Sunday. May your atmospheric pictures and the progress in building. I hope your chickens survive, you will come back and have a happy new year and a peaceful Christmas
What a Christmas treat ! Thank you Martijn for this beautiful bonus. It's keeping me warm all the way to Québec, Canada. I hope that your mom cooks that delicious apple pie for you. May 2024 be the best year ever for you! 😊
Awesome fireplace! So glad you are now keeping warm!!! 🥰
What a great twist on a Yule Log! This was a great idea, and very “ on brand!” Thanks for the holiday warmth!
Since the time I've been watching you... I've been dreaming of it... And you did it!!! A big thank to you 😂😊
This has got to be the easiest video for you to make but man has sat in front of a fire for thousands of years. Well done.
Beautiful work Martijn. HappyNew Year, I hope you have an amazing 2024
Thankful and grateful that you share, Maestro Doolaard, what a symphony. You continue to be Art and Poetry in Motion , attune to to the cycle of nature. Check
