  • When my dad passed away during his last few mins of life they say the hearing is the last to go! I played this song as was always his fave! He literally opened his eyes and gasped then took a few breaths then went peacefully! I knew he would react to it! We had it played at his funeral! Best song ever x they don’t make them like that no more x

    • Some under rated singers from 60’s and 70’s have become famous 40 to 50 years later. In Bollywood which is Indian film industry there was a singer called Kishore Kumar . He started singing in 50’s and his voice was disliked by most of the public but his efforts made his songs last upto current generation though he passed away during 80’s

    • Jesus Christ. "under-rated" is the most overused word on KZhead. Mainly used by people who weren't there at the time to see how much very-rated these bands and singers were. He Was Not Under-rated

      @lm5730@lm5730 Жыл бұрын
    • @@lm5730 I know underrated is way overused for anything, but if you look into his history he was really underappreciated. He was friends with people like Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison, among other legends. I know being friends with them isn't an achievement but having the respect and good reputation with icons is kinda proof in the pudding. During his heyday he was a damn good bluesy singer, almost as if he was ripped out of the big band era and placed in classic rock. The worst part of his success is he came with the animals during the height of the british invasion, and seemed like nothing more than another one. I think if he wrote way more songs and melodies he could've stood out more. Their biggest hit is a classic composition, and most of their singles are someone else's compositions. Sure, for one reason or another he couldn't or wouldn't perform his own songs which is fair enough. If only he did though, I have a feeling his distinct voice would be more recognisable. And lastly, there's the fact he was a founding member of War and they went behind his back and all signed a record deal without him. Not just that but he had quite the rocky 70s and whatever else from then on.

  • Voices are like wine. You have to have good wine at the start and Eric wine was powerful, had depth and truth in what and how he sang. The wine has aged and the taste has changed from a young wine to an older deeper flavor and color. Not as raw or bright but better from time and its surroundings influence. So pull out a glass and enjoy before the wine is gone because nothing is as good as the real thing.

Speaking of Spill the Wine, War performs with one original member, Lonnie Jordan. But 3 or 4 of the other guys in War are still performing as Lowrider and doing all the old greats. It really would be incredible if Eric Burdon and War and Lowrider got back together as they'd be almost the whole original lineup and they were unbelievable! Enjoy the tunes!

    • I've enjoyed Burdon's vocals from day one, because he was gritty and tough, very natural and always full of emotion. IMHO, I'm glad I could experience that from him. The Animals always made me feel right at home in the blue collar struggle. He treats age as life experience, not collected stuff. Always refreshing to hear and even see him doin' his thang. At 75 he's still "doin' it" too! "When I Was Young" is a reflective anthem to me. It was then and it is now. He's one of the most dynamic songwriters in whatever genre he's writing in. His songs are always great stories shared.
