    • Yeah, the writers took all the core tropes from the games and threw them into the show for the fun of the "Easter eggs" and obviously the fact this is a Vault Tech story. The fact Lucy is looking for her father is Fallout 3 🤔 Fallout 4's core factor plays a major role 🤫 The Water chip will obviously come up in later episodes and season 2. 🤷‍♂

The pistol Maximus has (not the square one on the power armor but his personal that his killed the bear with) Is the starting pistol in the Classic games and it’s got a cylinder that spins when he shoots and man I can just imagine how much time it took to make something so spot on from a 90s game

  • The great thing about the show is that it's a brand new story. This isn't like Last Of Us. Us gamers are just as surprised as you guys by the plot. Every game is a different story and not a continuation of the story from the previous games. The true enjoyment for us is seeing all of the Easter Eggs from the games. Like the water chip. Getting a new water chip was the plot of the first game.

    @jxchamb@jxchamb20 күн бұрын
    • The upside about the involvement of Bethesda Game Studios is that even though this series doesn’t draw a PLOT from the games like The Last of Us, the game stories are written as if they are canon to the games. And in this case, Todd Howard says they actually are.

Create a brand new story using the world, lore, and universe of a well-established series, and along the way include various fan favorite things through cameos, Easter eggs, references, etc. Of course, not all adaptations can be actualized this way, but it’s nice to see it more often

There's so much we've seen before from the games and so much we've not seen at all, so there's still very much that little feeling of being exposed to this world for the first time. Which will heal lost HP but also raise your Rads which lowers your maxiumum HP at the same time. Creating diminishing returns with repeated use, but also potentially saving you. The Ghoul forcing Lucy to drink from the dirty water source is probably a subtle nod to this game mechanic.

Amazon only had rights for The Lord of the Rings novels, they couldn't use The Silmarillion or any other book focusing on the Second Age. Most consider it the cream of the crop - it's the only FPS Fallout set in the west - so you're bound to have lots of lore directly relevant to the show if that's what you're craving. Get to learn all about the NCR, Caesar's Legion, the Brotherhood of Steel and more. It's a little on the old side graphically, but the world building, story telling and gameplay are all super on point. Also there's always mods if the graphics bother you!

  • If it wasn't obvious, Cooper's wife works for Vault-Tec. It was a favor to her that he agreed to do the advertisement and be Vault-Tec's posterboy. In the very first episode, you might remember that there were a couple of dads at the party talking smack about Cooper behind his back, before and after asking him to pose with his famous 'thumbs up' - which he refused to do. (now you know why...) They also referred to him as a 'Pinkie' (communist sympathizer) and that he resorted to doing guest appearances at parties to pay for alimony. From that - you should conclude that Cooper is divorced and apparently has either shared or complete custody of their daughter. As a famous actor of the time, a divorce was probably public and a bit of a Hollywood scandal (speculation) and the fact that some referred to him as a 'pinkie' suggests that like many other actors at the time (like the writer of the show he was on who was fired), he may have been seen as having 'anti-American' views. But you need to ask yourself - in the time between when he became the posterboy for Vault-Tec and just before the bombs fell, what in that landscape could be construed as 'anti-American'? We also know that at some point Cooper stopped being the posterboy for Vault-Tec and was replaced by what we recognize now as the smiling cartoon with the thumbs up. Cooper shot out that billboard suggesting great animosity towards Vault-Tec...but why???

  • I always felt the Brotherhood felt a bit too evil in the series but then realized that the further east you go from their HQ you go the less fanatical the members tend to be. In the most recent games we've been mostly dealing with the east coast BoS who are the least fanatic, while the show is deal with the west coast BoS who are the most fanatic so it actually does make ssence.

  • Hey guys. I don't have a ton of lore this episode. Explaining some questions will spoil later episodes. I did like that the squire stupidly thought his tracker could track the ghoul because of his low level radiation emissions (Again PLEASE remember radiation does not work in this universe like it does in ours. This isn't Chernobyl) and that he wouldn't pick up any other creatures. Now that device is an invention of the show but it fits right in. Could definitely see it as a one time quest item. The "gulper" is from Fallout 4's dlc Far Harbor but it only shares a name. In Far Harbor they are mutated salamanders. I kind of wish they hadn't used the same name because it is an original creature but it is a generic enough name that you could see wastelanders giving similar name to multiple creatures and it just becoming the slang term. Not much education in the wastes. Cooper Howard being the basis of the Vault Boy cartoon (Vault Boy not Fallout Boy. that's the band) is totally new and really cool we got some new background lore in this show. There is something about Maximus and the armor that he should have done but it will spoil the next episode. ( I have NO idea when ya'll actually watch these so i play it safe.) But players were definitely screaming like you guys were when he left the armor unattended. This good though as it shows Maximus has NO IDEA what he is doing. Much like with the fight in Filly he knows nothing about how to operate that armor. Also Maximus was very likely numbed up with something WAY more hardcore than what you would get at a dentist. As I said in previous posts there are a LOT of in game consumables called chems. they give different bonus's. There is something called MED-X and is essentially crazy potent morphine. In game you take it and it gives you a bonus to your toughness but it is probably explained as making you not FEEL pain. So it is very likely he was given med-x before his tooth was ripped out. See ya'll next week.

  • Yeah, the red-scare, McCarthyism of mid-20th century Hollywood repurposed in the Fallout retro-futurist pre-nuclear apocalypse is really good and spot-on all throughout the series. Unfortunately, they don’t get too in the weeds, like most productions made in Hollywood tend not to do, (because the nepo-babies of the rats who named names to fill those blacklists are still active in the industry 😒.) I will say, in the first episode the only part I where I rolled my eyes and had a negative reaction was when Moldaver told Lucy something like “you look like your mother,” because I had the same response to that which I had to the newer Star Wars films, where I found myself saying, “I do not need everyone to be related, I do not care about the backstory.” And despite that reaction, I have loved all of the flashbacks and backstory in this show.

  • Hi again and welcome to my next breakdown of references for episode 3: The reason the squires are shown carrying that huge bag is a joke on the fact that the game lets you pick up pretty much anything. ANYTHING. Safe to say that a lot of the time you have way too much junk in your inventory and end up getting encumbered very easily, making you wish you had more strength or bigger pockets. The huge backpack is a reference to that. The prisoners from "32" are not from 32. They are all raiders from the wasteland, so they are practically savages. It's very likely none have ever seen clean food before. "Thou shalt be sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time." This is probably the most honest and truest line of dialogue in reference to the games in the entire season. Anyone who has ever played Fallout knows about the ridiculous amount of side quests available in the game. Because of this it's extremely easy to get sidetracked pretty much all the time to the point where the player might even completely forget what the original main goal was. So far the only big difference between the show and the game is those vials the Ghoul appears to use with an inhaler. The loss of those prompts his decisions in the next episode. I won't get into it till you see it, but it's so far the only thing that has been added to the show so far that doesn't exist in the video games. Lucy asking about CX-404 as she is taken by the Ghoul is also another reference to the game. As the show progresses you will notice that Lucy is always either alone or accompanied by one other character. This is the companion system from the game. You can't have more than 1 companion with you at a time, so that's why you'll never see Lucy with more than 1 other person in her party. The vault meeting where they're discussing the prisoners. The damaged water chip is a direct reference to the original game. In the first Fallout the adventure begins with you needing to find a replacement. The device held by the character is an exact replica of the device as seen in the games. The abominations in the show/game are essentially irradiated mutations. The gulper is in fact a mutated axolotl, though in the games they tend to be bigger and in my opinion uglier. There are no cicadas in Fallout. What you saw was a full grown radroach. Lucy's desperation for water is one that mirrors the needs in the game. At times you need to eat or drink to replenish your health, but there are almost no clean sources. You are pretty much forced to take in irradiated food to survive and deal with the radiation afterwards if you have enough rad-away, the only way to cure it. Vault-Tec's mascot is known as Vault Boy. In the games it was a very popular character and they produced different bobbleheads for collectors. This is referenced in the show with some of the bobbleheads you see in the background. In the games you can collect these. Some are sold for real and they come in different poses. The explanation given by Cooper at the beginning of the show about the meaning of the thumbs up is the premise behind the famous pose of the character.

  • 18:42 This is very much an inside joke about Bethesda games. They're open world titles, which a lot of people don't even finish the main story quest line for, because they just experience all the various side quests and whatnot. I have 4 digit play time in modded Skyrim and ever even finished the whole Dragonborn quest line that you start out with (without alternate start mods). 23:19 I think it is more meant to be a prolapse.

    • I have about a thousand hours in modded skyrim and 600 in modded fo4. I've seen most fallout 4 endings since those are pretty easy to do as the game is heavily story centered. Skyrim however I've used mods to start as a random person. skip helgen scene entirely, and become the archmage of winterhold, before even spawning dragons in the world. Makes the Dragonborn title and powers feel way more earned than just being sent on a magical chosen one quest right out of the start
