He never checked the fighters focus, touched his hands to see if they were steady. Or made sure he had his balance. Watch most boxing refs after a strong knockdown, they check the fighter. This ref didn’t. If the guy could stand he could fight in the ref’s mind.

Edit: rewatched this, and yeah, this is a mess. Should never have let it continue after waving the stoppage. Original post: ref was protecting a warrior that wouldn't quit so he could leave with dignity and fight another day. He did his job here and made the right call.
