  • Thanks, these welding instructions are very helpful. The details of the process are important, such as air cooling and short welding time to avoid warping of the panel.

  • I know this video is a year old but wanted to say thanks for the detailed instructions. I'm in the middle of a restoration and I've not done much sheetmetal welding. Watching these videos definitely gives me a starting point and a place to start practicing before I weld the panel on the actual car.

  • Great video. Questions - 1) What size wire are you using? 2) What is the gas set at?

    @salc1300@salc13006 ай бұрын
    • since no one else answered the .025 is more controllable, but maybe .030 ? I think you get better results with the smaller wire, I have .030 at home but at school, they use .025. and for gas, as low as possible since you don't want to waste it. I think they say 25-30 on the regulator gauge, play with it, I run 15-20 on the gauge. practice practice practice

  • You've made a good sheet metal welding tutorial! You remind the viewers about controlling the heat over and over. Then you sum it up at the end saying anyone can do this to weld any panel if you control the heat. I really like the double-tap trick, that you start out with when you are doing the spot welds. You say "put some meat on it and then burn it in". I got the sheet metal bug a couple years ago when I decided to do something about some cracks in a shovel. Of course I burned through a bunch of times, having been trained to run a bead. It didn't help that I was using 3/32" 6011 with a stick welder. But after two winters with time for University of You-Tube instruction, I am pretty confident with 14 & 16 gauge. I still use 3/32" 6011 stick. Smaller stick is just too expensive and too hard to find. But I love the 6011, it penetrates really well, but also freezes really fast. If you strike the arc, create a puddle, then immediately break the arc, & move 6 inches down the line, you can make it work. This year I'll make a run at 18ga., and I bet your double-tap technique will come in handy. (6011 penetrates really well so you don't to leave a gap, like you show in your butt-weld video) Thanks for the video, and keep makin'.
