Actually, I think the trade was meant to be mutually beneficial. Scott stumbled upon Lizzie’s lore item in a similar way as Lizzie stumbled upon Scott’s lore item. She found it amongst litter in the ocean and he found it while terraforming his mountains. It was clearly intentional that they each find the items so they could swap it. You say that Scott did it 100% for Lizzie, but I get the feeling the boots will be more important to the lore than we currently believe them to be. :)
