  • I pay for the Duolingo subscription and I think it's worth the $7/month. The grammar is included within the sentences, which I like much better than grammar charts. They used to have speaking parts, but now they just encourage you to speak the sentences out loud. They also have stories and podcasts. I miss the live classes that they used to offer. But overall, I really like Duolingo. Thanks!

  • I think if you are going to compare the two... you should compare the paid Duo with the paid Babbel.

  • I don't know about Babbel, but Duolingo...you're so right to the point! Those non-sense sentences do exist! And they are annoying, really! Plus, I guess it doesn't adjust to your level at all...I'm advanced in Spanish, and the lessons keep repeating aspects that I already know! I've jumped forward to more than one module to skip the introductory A1 level.....anyways, I think grammar can't be learned on an app...be it Duolingo or Babbel!

  • psst. make a video JUST about AI language tutors. Pimsleur is using one now through a 3rd party. I am trying to learn spanish and my first language is english. Rocket languages is also good. But I think the old players are behind. Chatgpt is very very convincing. It should be possible to roleplay any situation. Its not clear what pimsleur offers. rocket language is scenario based...but is this because they do not want forbidden content?

    • I'll consider making a video on AI for language learning.

    • @@loistalagrand Here is a reply from rocketlanguages: "Thank you for your interest in Rocket Languages! You're absolutely right that AI large language models potentially have some incredible applications for language learning. In fact, our current voice recognition software, which rates a user's pronunciation, is only possible with the advent of AI. As of yet, we have not integrated an AI tutor into our programme. While this is something that is on the radar of the development team, AI tutoring is still very much in the developmental stage when it comes to language learning. Upon integrating new technological features into our course, we always consider the benefits to the user as a language learner above implementing a feature simply because the technology that will allow us to do so exists. As such, at this stage, we are not developing an AI tutor, although this may be something that we look to do in the future." (they don't use ai except for automating the quality rating of user spoken words)
