Blacktail epoxy table workshop: www.blacktailstudio.com/the-e...
This wood slab kitchen island was one of my biggest woodworking projects to date. It was also my first kitchen island/woo countertop project! Made from a single piece of locally salvaged Black Walnut and the voids filled with jet black epoxy resin. This slab started out at nine feet long and over five feet wide. Rough cut by me and the final shape was precision cut by a CNC. I even decided to deliver this one personally and help with the installation. Let me know if you have any questions about the build!

@@byjamie-hillierrubis Yes in my younger and more able days I used to love doing the odd pieces of joinery and surprised myself on how well I could make things like rail and post doors blanket boxes out of recycled timber but my arthritis has caught up with me and my large if not basic machinery now lies idle and I hope one day my son will use them when he gets the time as he is quite good at picking things up. I drool over some of the Blacktail machinery and workshop and it must have cost a fortune but it is worth it in the end eh to know that you did this by yourself? Plus the fact that you know that the things you have made are perfect and not just thrown together like some factory made furniture.

I’ll keep quiet next time 👍🏼
Not wood. Please don't stop talking, you cadence is very soothing.
Was gonna say exactly the same

I absolutely love not being bombarded with intolerable music/sound effects/high pitch frantic commenting etc. Perfect.
Not wood, at least in the kitchen itself, but I dream of a gorgeous river wood table. Maybe a darker wood with teal epoxy. I love that you talk and go through what you're doing and why. I feel like you make it easy to learn, and I always have questions when it's nothing but music, but you answer them as they pop into my head. Great job, gorgeous table!
Holy hell I’m getting old I just watched some guy make a table for 20 minutes and enjoyed it.
It happens!
Not wood. Me too lol. Great craftsmanship. I especially appreciate how he said to give the client realistic expectations. Doing tree work as a one man show I often let potential clients know that xyzzy company could do it for a bit less than I am able to, surprisingly, they almost always say "when can you start" :). Have a great weekend everyone.
I'm 17 and enjoyed it, I never in my life did wood working, Is there something wrong with me?

Don't ever stop your commentary! I love it and I find it very interesting and very informative! :D plus it can be really fun! :D I love it!
My thoughts exactly, it's not "blah blah blah" I hear, it's valuable, informative, seasoned just right commentary.
What @SpectroliteAAA said.

I hate music over videos and turn most of them off especially when i am doing stuff and can't stair the whole time
Don't think of being a content creator as a bad thing. You're doing something you have a passion for, teaching people by showing people your mistakes so they can learn from them and creating beautiful products while doing so. We as viewers are lucky to have such content for free on KZhead and you seem to enjoy the process too. It's not something to be ashamed of, it's something to be proud of.
I'm not particularly fastidious or careful enough to be comfortable with such a high end wood counter top. That said I'm completely impressed with the way this project turned out. Beautiful work !!!!
Your inability to “shut up” is the reason I just subscribed. Narration is vital to explain the processes and techniques you use and I think you do it very well. Keep up the good work.

Wood and woodworking is my life. At 75 years old I continue to practice my trade. As much as I love the work itself, I get a great deal of pleasure watching others do their thing. I am not an epoxy sort of guy but find it very interesting to watch.
As a fellow wood worker you have my admiration You really go all the way with the quality Thank you again for all the tips and the tricks of the trade I'm 63 and I'm still learning everyday
I listen because A) You’re voice is soothing B) I love how descriptive you are C) even though I have 0 interest in actually doing woodwork, watching you create and making explain the process of whatever masterpiece you’re making is thoroughly interesting. D) Screw the haters lol 😂

Surprisingly some of them held amazing grain behild the layer bleached by sun and weather. Some of them had sawmarks that came out after getting some varnish on it, but honestly in some cases these look quite good.
I was pretty shocked when you said that people don’t like hearing your voice over. Personally I think it’s great to hear all the details and be able to get the little things out of it. 💯
I agree 100 percent ! I like knowing why hes doing what hes doing and hearing the tips and tricks rather than generic non © music lol
How shocked were you? Be honest
i really love how there is no music on the videos. its very relaxing
I started watching your videos when my infant granddaughter fell asleep on my shoulder at 10am today. It’s 7pm and I’m on like my 8th one. I have absolutely no experience with your craft, but I love creativity and quality work. Your process is mesmerizing (mostly because you are so articulate, thank you very much) and beautiful. Carry on! Another nap is coming our way!
Wood. You know you’re not the average “content producer” right? You’re easily top 1% of people who actually give a shit about what they put out. Great vid and awesome island.
Wow, never thought of myself like that. But I’ll take it!
Its true !!!!
Your a mans man! Your video’s are by far the best.
Indeed. I really enjoy the adult, no bullshit content.
this is absolutely true. After watching his videos I feel like I can make anything, and I have never even touched woodworking before.
I have to say the "troll segment", is one my favorite parts... That was beautiful
I agree. I would enjoy complete video of troll comments!
So true. Sometimes I want to come up with with a snarky comment to try and get featured, but I enjoy his videos so much it wouldn't be fair!
That island counter top is absolutely gorgeous. Your work is awesome. It's such a pleasure to see and learn from your videos. Thank you
First video I see of you but you got me. I am a timber worker myself so I appreciate your incredible talent. You really got me when you explained you quit your job to do this and I'd just like to show my respect and appreciation.
Wood, there's just something fascinating about having one as a countertop. Still can't believe that I sat through 18 minutes to listen to a guy working on wood even though I'm not a carpenter or in any related field. I do have to admit that the commentary was fun to listen to.
Ditto
Tbh I didn’t realize there was no music and you kept talking until you mentioned it lol I was fully invested
I think I’ve watched almost all your videos now and the narration is what keeps me watching. As an old woodshop teacher I really appreciate the extra effort you put in for a quality piece. Love the wood look but my wife needs granite especially near the sink. With my 3 little shops I’ll never be able to do something as large but will try to put your level of quality into my little projects.
This is one of the nicest countertops I have ever seen in my life. Kudos to you. Thank you for showing the counter in situ.
I would not get a wooden counter top despite the fact that they look incredible. I would absolutely annihilate it. Really liked this project, man. Good stuff. 👊🏻
I feel the same. But a lot of people didn’t even use their kitchens or are really careful. I’m like a tornado when I’m cooking lol

I really love watching you work. You are always fun to watch and you hold my interest!!! I additionally love listening to you explain the steps of what goes into your creations!! Simply stunning work x 100!!
For what it's worth, I preferred listening to you talk about everything than the videos where people don't talk.
i like that he talks with no music. it engages me so much more
Yes, too many videos has stupid music than one has to filter away to hear whats being said.
Or at least just have ambient music.
Brother, I've been watching you for a long time. Your dedication to your craft gives me the warm fuzzies. Your attention to detail is simply amazing and awe inspiring. I barely have time to get through all the videos that I would like to watch, let alone getting into some of your training videos but someday, I will find the time. Just wanted to drop a like and thank you for sharing your skill, love for the wood and ideas and willingness to add in voice overs to your videos. Your honestly is difficult to find these days, whether it be about your work or yourself but it's as raw as it gets and I for one, appreciate it. Thank you and keep up the great work!
I really like how you explain things and you speak with the perfect speed, not too fast but not too slow
I would not get a wood countertop, only because I would be terrified of leaving a ring, dent or stain! You created an absolute work of art, and the process was fascinating. Keep doing what you do!
Ring or stain no. Dent... Maybe. It has coating so no rings or stains
I’m not too familiar with woodworking, but could you resurface these wood countertops? Or would you end up taking off way too much just to fix some dents?
@@sofreshsogreen If its thick enough, you can usually fix any wood furniture by just "Sanding it and Re-Coating it with Wax/Varnish", the problem is that the wax/varnish probably wont be the same (so there will be a color difference), and once you sand the top layer you might find more imperfections than when you started that you need to refill or fix. Obviously its not just this simple 2 step process, but the theory works on almost any wood that was accidentaly messed up... its just too much work and sometimes not worth the risk. :D
So what if you ding it.......you have scars don't you?
