International rugby superstar, Irish legend, South African son, CJ Stander | Use It or Lose It

A humble Afrikaans boy from a small town on the Garden Route, who could've imagined the things young CJ Stander would eventually accomplish? We'll tell you who, CJ! Like most Afrikaans boys, CJ started playing rugby at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks in his respective age groups. It was clear from his earliest matches that he was a formidable, if not unstoppable, force on the field which saw him earn his provincial colours multiple times, captain his team at Craven week, captain the SA u/20 team, go onto represent the Blue Bulls, and finally transition to Ireland where he became a key member of the Munster team, captaining them on multiple occasions, and earning 51 caps for the national side. His resume speaks for itself.
Jean and Scalla dive into CJ's career, his time at home and abroad, the differences between club rugby here and there, the current British & Irish Lion's tour, a whole lot more, and everyone's favourite segment - DHL Bad Jokes!

Use It or Lose It is a bi-weekly chat show with former Springboks and rugby legends Jean “JDV” de Villiers and Schalk “Scalla” Burger. It’s shoot from the hip, loose lip, fun, where they share old stories, talk sports, dabble in current affairs, and chat to other legends, musicians, celebs, and friends they’ve made over the years.

  • CJ is an absolute gentleman, he gave it his all when ever he pulled on the red of Munster or green of Ireland. Was sad to hear he was returning to SA, but I'll always have great memories of him. A great role model and inspiration to young Irish players. I hope he and his family will be happy in SA. CJ will always be welcomed back to his second home in Ireland.

His deeds were done for Ireland. So I dnt know why we must love and appreciate him when he went to war against us. He chose Ireland. I have no love for him as a sportsman. Or county man. • Much love to CJ, he represented Ireland with great dignity. I always felt great pride when he pulled on the green of Ireland. Irish people have migrated the world over for centuries, and in turn many people have come to Ireland to set up a new life for their families. Some people may have questioned him playing for Ireland, but for me what better representation of our country is a man who uprooted his whole life to start fresh in a new country with nothing but a dream to his name? The Irish rugby team represents a lot more than just a person born on the island of Ireland. He encapsulates that spirit of chasing a dream even when the odds are stacked against you, and leaving behind your place of birth to make something for yourself and your family. I am very happy to see he is content and living his life back home with friends and family surrounding him. Go raibh maith agat CJ, you and your family are always welcome in your second home.

From management to players there has been a tremendous bond formed between the mighty South Africa and Munster.
