What’s next for the LA Kings? PLUS: A look at the top 50 free agents
It’s a milestone episode of The DFO Rundown as Jason and Frank have reached episode 300 of the show. They kicked things off by talking a little bit about that before getting into the hockey talk.
They started out in Tampa Bay where the Bolts were bounced in five games by the Florida Panthers. The big story there surrounds the future of their Captain, Steven Stamkos. He’s right near the top of Frank’s ‘Top 50 Free Agents’ list but the guys seem to think he’s going to stay put.
That led to some talk about other big name free agents, like Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault, who could be on his way out of Vegas. They also talked about some names lower down the list like Oilers defenseman Vinny Desharnais. That sparked a debate about what the definition of a true second-pairing defenseman is.
From there, they got into the playoff talked about broke down the series that Frank is covering between the Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators. They also hit on the Golden Knights and Stars and the Oilers taking down the Kings for a third straight season.
In this week’s edition of Buy or Sell, Tyler asked the guys a handful of questions relating to the coaching carousel in the NHL.

You guys are the only ones that I enjoy hearing argue 😂 something about it feels like an episode of Curb
Kings fan from their inception in '67 while playing in Long Bach while the GW Forum was still being built. Blake, Bergevin AND Robitaille ALL need to go. Enough is enough of their good ol' boys club.
Well said my fellow Kings fan! I'm also OG Kings fan and a season ticket holder but I will not renew if PLD is not dumped with Luc and Blake Fired ASAP!!!
@@karokaro7328 👊
If Deharnais plays in your second pair long term, the Oil will regret it. He’s 28 in less than a month. He’s not going to get that much better. They tried him with Nurse this year with not great results.
He’s fine as a bottom pair guy If a guy that slow is in your top 4 you are not a cup contender.
As a stars fan, hakanpaa is a 3rd pair. Miro, harley, tanev, Lindell
Rob Blake said he has no intentions on buying him out. Rob Blake is just crossing his fingers he fixes him
I agree with everything Frank is saying about the Kings except pulling Talbot, Rittich is just better in pressure situations, why he's nicknamed, "Big Save Dave."
I’ve been saying buyout PLD since December. If you can’t trade him and his current contract means a buyout is self evident
And at 1/3 the cost!
@@arthurkjr …if done before July 1st. I read an article last night about PLD that counters my suggestion- Per All Three Zones tracking, Dubois was the best on the team in passes that led to scoring chances, passes to the high-danger area, and was one of the most efficient Kings in carrying the puck with possession through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone. Perhaps he’d done better in a non 1-3-1 and a non rookie linemate like AL. But we can’t pander to this guy again. He needs to play big power ful fast hockey
I enjoyed the vitriol here. It caused great conversation looking at players in the league as a whole. As a blues fans with crappy d-men getting paid $6.5mil I feel the pain of overpaying underperforming talent.
Buy. Out. Dubois. At. 1/3. The. Price. While. You. Can.
I think firing McClelland was a mistake by the kings!
Seravalli is so right about what it means to be a second pair defensemen/first line center. Buddy proved franks Point five times in that debate.
Go Kings!
Sorry Gregor you are a little off on your logic here. Love Kulak but a 3rd pair can’t make over 2 as it puts strain on the cap. To that point saying you think big D is a value at 3 as second pair right d? Well Ceci is 3.25 as a number 4 second pair D and everyone keeps trying to run him out of town as a bad contract!
I turned this on because I like Gregor, but holy moly is Frank insufferable for more than just a segment. Can’t do it
This is painful. I like both of these guys individually, but they do not go good together. Should stick to your 4 minute radio segments once a week.
I think this is fantastic.
@@willweisgerber245 I agree. I don't listen to Gregor very often because he has terrible takes on the Oilers players a lot of the time. Listening to Seravalli put him in his place made my day.
@@W31rdG and Frank calls him out.
I love how far off these two are to each others POV
Frank is right. Haak is a 3rd pair
Faber was never gonna sign in LA that's why they let him be the chip in the Fiala trade
You know this, how? And why wouldn't he?
Someone thinks that building a replica of the Empire State Building in Ednobton means that Edmonton is suddenly a tourist destination. Shoehorning a guy into a role may work short term, but to pay someone to be something he isnt is just bad business going forward
Maaan... after watching this, I'm even more convinced that Gregor is clueless about player assessments. The Oilers are in cap hell because they paid guys for the player they were going to be in a few years instead of the player they are today. Look at how well that worked out with Nurse? Imagine paying Desharnais $2.75M x 4 and he doesn't live up to that contract? I think in about a year or two the Oilers will have a better idea of the type of player Desharnais is going to be, so they should sign him on a 2-3 year $1.5-2M deal. If he's seeking more money they need to let him go. I like Hakanpaa, but I agree with Servalli. He's a third pairing D man all day long. He might be a bit underpaid, but the Stars were smart about how they dealt with his contract. That's the type of value the Oilers need to be looking for, and not overpay a third pairing D man.
There is NO should Kings need to buy out PLD and Fire both GM Rob Blake and VP Luc Robitaille they are completely destroying and hurting this Kings organization for years to come!!!!!! The worst trade and management in the NHL!!!!!
Edmonton does have bigger guns, but LA is very deep. With the Edmonton PP so strong, that series was decided on a few questionable calls. Take those away and who knows how it goes.
Some of those calls decided the series but it waa LAs inability to score that really was the problem.
Why are these guys such assholes to each other. This is hard to watch
