Dangerous leaning tree cutting... STIHL ms 881.
The process of logging large and slightly inclined tamarind trees, uses a stihl ms 881 chainsaw and stihl ms 660 chainsaw, the best wood cutting machine in its class by a professional wood senso operator.
After the wood is cut to size, it is directly carried by the 8 woodworkers onto a truck to be sent to Jepara as material for woodworking and furniture such as carved statues, carved chairs and solid trembesi tables.

Unbelievable ! Barefoot and in flip flops. No helmets. No goggles. No ear protection. Definitely not an OSHA supervised job. and yet, pound for pound, these dudes might be some of the grittiest, toughest hombres in the forest. Certainly among the strongest.
A couple of years ago while on vacation in Pattaya, Thailand. Stayed at guesthouse, went down for morning coffee only to find that some drunk idiot drove a truck into some shopfront, smashed plate glass everywhere, aluminium framework mangled up. And now there’s guys in flip flops, shorts and t shirts, no goggles and no helmets were clearing up, moving the truck out by hand. Jeeeez no safety gear in sight.

Watching this was pretty incredible from about 100 different ways of considering it. That is valuable timber they are pulling out but clearly.....life is cheap in southeast Asia. The guy going up the tree barefoot and releasing tension (by free hand cutting) on limbs measuring easily in the metric ton range without falling off or dropping the saw was jaw dropping.
Should have had an OSHA inspector there (so he could have a heart attack)
@@patmcbride9853 Watching it....I could imagine all sort of incidents that would most likely result in the death or severe maiming of the climber. I could also imagine incidents causing big problems for the guys wandering around on the ground. OSHA inspector......that's pretty funny.
@@dgibbsfl Yeah, the lack of coordination made me cringe. Did anyone yell something like "timber" even once?

@@davidmasland5627 It's an MS 881 MAGNUM $2200. Most climbers are using very small light saws. This is the largest saw Stihl makes and he's monkeying around using it with 1 hand. Gotta love all the 'safety' gear they're wearing!

Wow, looks like we went thru the Russian or Mexican felling school safety program. No work boots, no chaps or hardhat, etc., operating a very powerful and heavy saw one handed. Process of natural selection probably be making itself known here very soon.

The boys and girls at OREGON were crappin BB's.. as well.
Their safety standards certainly aren't up to what we're accustomed to, but the person operating the main saw in this documentary has impressive skills. Imgine what he could accomplsh if given our expected level of equipment? He did all this while barely attached to the tree with more than a couple toenails! Add to it he's taking respectable undercut wedges with a full size saw. I wouldn't want to have to grapple with him on the mat! Very impressive video, but I can't say I'll recommend it for training purposes stateside! Thank You for sharing how work is done elsewhere on the globe, it helps me appreciate what we've accomplished over here.

@@Arfabiscuit you got it, - in this country the power saw is more worth than a workers life 😢
They lack safety equipment - yes, but they certainly don’t lack skill. They are not afraid of hard work; they don’t have skidders , but they do have team work moving those giant logs around. The Vietnamese people are amongst the most industrious hard working folks I’ve run across and they deserve respect.
I really wonder how they stayed alive long enough to get this good
They would have got even better if they hadn’t died in chain saw and tree felling fatalities..
Alot of jealous westerners always think these poor people from poor countries are not capable not understanding that these people are doing as much or more with the limited equipment they can afford.

I mean he didn’t die and for not being tied in and with a big saw probably in a country where climbing gear is either non existent or limited he did pretty good. Decent enough undercut it looks like and nice cuts in general. Guy has balls of steel and is definitely a master in his land.
Pacific Islanders and Asians are very similar when it comes to climbing trees. Not only they don't have all the right tools and equipment for tree felling but they would use anything to get the job done. Back in the 80's, I used to work for my Uncle, he was an Arborist. When he first started in the Business, he didn't have enough money to buy the right tools and equipment to do the job. But we, could manage to do all the jobs with whatever tools and equipment we had at the time. My brother In Law was 190lbs, but he was still running around on top of the tree with one hand to a very small branch and one to the small trimming chainsaw without using his safety harness. My uncle was always upset at him for not using his safety harness. I agreed with you West, that this guy with the green top has balls. He reminded me of the old days. I have lost some few members in my family for working in the Tree Business.

Best described as a "temporary" tree feller .... he won't be round for long.
This definitely didn't happen in the States. If they knew anything about OSHA they wouldn't be barefoot or making a cut with the blade about 4 inches away from his thigh.
