Inner Tubing vs. Office Rubber vs. Thera Band, Plus: Bullpup crossbow enhanced

Rubber related questions are MOST common. People often want to know if they can use bike inner tubing or office rubber, as they often can not find Thera Band. Here, a test is conducted. 6kg (12 lbs) draw weight and 85cm (33") of draw length is what everybody can draw with ease, even teenage boys. So three different bands were made that match these criteria, one from inner tubing, one from office rubber, one from Thera Band Gold.

@DZgoodTimes Sure, if you use the right ammo and band dimensions plus if you draw out far (full butterfly) you can even achieve 150 m/s with TB Black. But such super fast bands tear early.

Just made my own slingshot with office rubber bands, thank you for inspiring me to do so.
@ivar197 Vulcanized rubber and latex is one and the same. Unvulcanized rubber is not stretchy at all, useless for slingshots. It is true, the bands all tear after many shots, but never "catastrophically". They always tear at the pouch side, then a slap on the hand is all that can happen. And even then, the experienced shooter sees it coming as small nicks will occur first.

When comparing rubbers, have you done a video comparing different Theraband products and similar items such as Theraband Silver tubing with surgical tubing and speargun rubber?

Would you please make a video of theraband - gold (a.o.) - in comparison with natural latex bands! Saw in an other video, natural latex would be faster than theraband gold, but I´m sceptic about it´s duration.

when I was a kid we didn't have any theraband or anything back where we used to live and we were poor. we used these really thin white elastics, im not sure what they're called, but I think tailors use them. We would put a whole bunch on each side of the slingshot and that's where we got our propulsion. can you maybe try those one time ? thank you

I use the #107 rubber band made by the alliance rubber company. If you have about 9 inches from tie to tie its pretty fast and comparable to theraband gold. 1/16 thick gum rubber cut this length is also pretty fast. If you hunt it would be fast enough to take small game. Both of these are also very durable. If you active shoot and don't hold at the anchor point you can get 200 shots per band set. Which is a lot better than theraband gold.
@arisingartist What would be a good source? I haven't found such inner tubing.
Joerg i think that you used the inner tube like a tube but if you take it and cut like flat thera band i think it will shoot much better
@arisingartist & @JoergSprave I had really good luck with latex rubber tubing when building my biggest three-man slingshots (~8m, 4 bands). It was so powerful that pouches simply disintegrated and ended up using a piece of a wheel barrow tire that my mother recommended (thanks, Mom!)... Thera Band is probably made from natural latex, just like my tubing, only in sheet form.

How do you tie the theraband to the leather sling? Also how do you cut it? How would it tie it to my slingshot that uses tube type bands (metal arms)? Appreciate any help.

I found his first evil laugh in "Slingshot vs. iPhone at 2:47. It's not the full mature evil laugh we know but I think it was the first time an evil laugh unintentionally slipped out of him. After that video there was no evil laugh for many videos. I'm still searching for the moment where he start to do this regularly and of course I'm also searching for the first use of his catchphrase. It's like JoergSprave-archology ;)

A bit of a complex question, I hope you can understand. I was wanting to build a "Jezail" type slingshot rifle , long and ridiculous, I'd like it to be able to shoot steel balls and nerf foam balls for messing around with friends. I'm wondering about the effects of stretching a rubber band, say I use medical tubing, over a distance of 1.3 meters or 4 feet.

no mater which rubber is used can you recommend a way of extending the life of the rubber ??some sort of oil maybe, something that would prevent fatigue when the cata is stored for instance????
the office bands seemed pretty good. There are also latex catheters, they are very good for slingshots

I think the office rubber chained in a 2,2,2,3 pattern would give you alot more power. You should try it.
how fast for the thera-bow? Years ago there was an old man here in Oklahoma who Channel 9 did an interview with. He would ask the reporter to pick a weed and which direction she wanted it to fall. Range was like 25 meters. The weed went that way. It usually took 2 shots but he was using gravel and there was (as always) a strong wind.

Dam! does this now mean we will need welding equipment to build the bullpup now? for the metal roller suport things? i was hoping it could be built in the average garage with 'common' tools.
Next time how about the difference of all kinds of Theraband(aside from gold) and tips on how wide or many layer could it equal to gold. Theraband gold is expensive in my country but then again I might be paying the same price or much more. Thanks for video.:D
