  • Hey folks! If you're looking for the PoE adapter, this is the one Amazon links on their page: amzn.to/42Ko3bj (Amazon affiliate link) It's expensive, but that's the type. I put the full specs in this video though. So you can buy any PoE adapter that meets the specification and it will work.

  • I will never buy another Alexa screen device. Given how they've treated software updates, performance and pushed ads all over it they've lose my trust entirely for screen alexa devices. I've sold the ones I had and am sticking with speaker-only.

    • I hate the ads too. And software updates have destroyed my Echo Show 5 causing the screen to break up because the processor is not fast enough to show the ads. I like the Echo Hub, and will probably wait for a few months before I buy one to see what Amazon does with the ads.

    • Same here all my Alexa screens are gone and using speakers only as we were sick to death of waking up to look at the clock and seeing adverts instead of times. Never will I buying an Amazon product with a screen. Again. They have lost my trust in that respect. Shame as this looks like a good product.

    • Thanks Dan! The answer is eventually all Matter devices should work with the hub. The answer also is right now if it's not a plug or a light, it's probably not going to work today.

  • Off subject: I homeschool. I find myself increasingly using Alexa. For example, son today told me he had never heard a certain spelling word before. Ms a defined it for us. She also helped with pre algebra lessons. Never would have thought of using her for such things before but I'm glad I have her.

  • Thanks so much, Brian. FINALLY, something interesting from Amazon. I had no idea this was coming out, but might have to get one during their next big sale. I still find that in some cases, Alexa Routines do things I'm not able to do easily in Homekit. I now see videos popping up on this device from some of your YouTubing peers, but had to watch yours first. Thanks again, Brian. I predict, though, that once Amazon gets these things in general distribution they'll decide to start feeding ads...something I find so annoying on the Echo Shows.

So, we'll see where the Show Hub ends up. For me, this is far more what I've been wanting for a smart display. I love how it will show whether ANY lights are on and can turn them off with one tap. That's super useful.

  • Excellent video Brian. I've been waiting for this device for a long time. If I get one, I'd like to set it up with PoE so I hope you'll go into that in your "setup" video. Is there a CAT5 jack or a PoE/USB C dongle or ? My primary hub is a SmartThings V3 and finally it seems to have settled down and everything is working the way it should. I'd love to see you do a video of how a home setup would work if some of the devices were hosted on SmartThings, and some of the devices were hosted on the Echo Hub. Thanks again Brian for another great video. P.S. I'll be waiting for someone to create a plastic j-box to go in the wall to make it easy to connect this either to AC or the CAT6 cable. Yes, I could just use a standard j-box. But it would be cool if someone designed a j-box that hide the wires and power supply AND connected/attached to the back of the device too. If I was 30 years younger and had a 3D printer, I'd design one myself.

Check the specs on the video (I put it in a comment at the bottom of the video when we're talking about PoE) and you can buy just about any one!

      @AutomateYourLife@AutomateYourLife2 ай бұрын
    • @@AutomateYourLife Thank you so much Brian. Yes, that one IS expensive. I'll look for a cheaper one. If one uses a POE connector, does the Echo Hub use the cable for network access, or just use it for power and still use Wi-Fi for comms?

    @tysenp8193@tysenp819325 күн бұрын
    • I see no speed improvements. Most of the speed is driven by the vendor and their ability to integrate with Amazon's backend. Also, the amount they pay for that speed/service.

  • Ok question - how do I put just a single on/ off on the Home Screen? For example, my kitchen light is 3 smart lights. When I add a favorite or a group, it puts the whole block of everything in the kitchen, or the on/ off option but all three light bulbs to the right of it so on my Home Screen it takes too much room!

    • @dvwebster can't really say without knowing the actual consumption in wattage. A charging cradle/base with a battery capacity of 4-8 or more hours would sell I think? Live on the base most of the time but also serve as a baby monitor, who knows. People put batteries on dumber things;) that's only 12.5 watts. A pack 1/4in thick that matched the back of this would easily be 30,000 mAh. . Enough to power this thing for 8 hours.

What a breeze! What an improvement!" I am grateful for all the new features and arrangements and connectivity, but why this thing on the wall? Is this just to satisfy the hobbyists who have been complaing about the lack of a wall-mounted device? Is this just to sell another piece of hardware? If so, why couldn't the standard model have been the tabletop design and the extra cost one been for those lusting for a wall-mounted device? And why not an option to make at least the software functions available as an app on our computers and tablets, and sell the hardware portion available separately?
