In this video i show you how i restored this vintage and rusty knife found at flea market.
This knife was in very bad shape and the blade was destroyed.
I removed all the rust and after i polished, nickel protected and repolished.
For the handle i decided to make an epoxy resin with some color and gold leaf.
This restoration took me a lot of time, i hope you like it!

Hi I'm looking to set up nickel plating at home to plate old watch cases, what is the solution you used, it worked so well..EDIT - HA, I watched this late last night...I should have just read the bottle :P
Done thought I had
The bayonet is a Turkish model 1890 for the Mauser rifle
I have a name for your new assistant, your new kitty cats name will be wWatcher. I figured this name out because your cat loves to watch you do new things and sniff things. I must know how do I send you something I want you to fix.
nice bayonet !
That's not a WW2 french bayonet, that's a 1874 Gras bayonet. Though obsolete, many were still used during WW1 by reserve troops and even by German POW camps guards. This one is interesting, as it seems clear it has been shortened, probably to be used as a trench knife. Good job, as this bayonet was clearly beyond restoration...
@RainbowGamingYT but-
@RainbowGamingYT it’s not illegal to be nice and let them know.
That’s cool that you know this!

Came for the blade restoration, stayed for the cat. That handle was gorgeous! The whole thing came out beautifully.
Thank you very much!
What cat I SEE NO EL GATO
At first, I thought it was the end of the kitty when they said "Let's test it", and cut to a screen with just the cat
I don’t know what to comment but I just wanted to comment because I like sandblasting.😅
It's amazing how something that seems beyond repair can be made into something that looks perfectly new

I thought about that name too! And for the same reasons; the sandblasting videos were what made this channel one of my favorites!
This is the most fitting one, even if the cat is male or female, have my upvote!
Even the right color
I second that. Sandy is an excellent name.
Your cat is adorable. Speaking of, I caught my cat watching this intently. I guess my cat likes your content too. As for the cat, their eyes look a bit like embers, maybe Ember?
Yeah ember is a good name
That magnetic file catcher is really cool.
LOVE the colored resin! Resin creations are always fun but the color adds a compelling new dimension!
Cat has to be named D'Artagnan. The knife looks awesome even with all it's craters, love the handle too.
Now THAT is an awesome name for the kitteh!
I own one that I bought from an antique shop years ago. Mine has an inscription saying “Mre d’armes de St Etienne 1876” which means “Manufacture of arms of Saint-Etienne 1876”. A fun fact about this blade is that it is one of the last of its kind. These bayonets are the last sword-type models before the French army moved to more contemporary bayonets that resemble knives.

I think you should name your cat Aurum, the Latin word for gold, because of the golden color of his eyes! As well as this being his first project, and involving lots of gold 😁.
Since it's a gray cat, the name should be Argentum. :D
Thats also a beer from Spain. I dont know...
Nickel and Mercury came to mind when you said he was gray, since you already mentioned Silver

Cute cat 🐈 it should be rusted
I actually really like the bubbles/indentation in the blade. It's not a very structurally supportive look, but it really does add some character to a very old blade :)
And it makes it look legit
It would be a little different if he was actually using the sword but he’s not so it doesn’t matter how good the structure is, i agree tho it makes it look really dope.

I always love the sand blasting it is very therapeutic. And it was beautiful work once again. I do wonder what the cat is called now but rust and cats my two favourite things
The Rusty Knife is really a Bayonet, just like the old times being an armchair learner of the military history.
Похоже на то.
It a bayonet that is from WW1 or older. That shape of blade was outlawed after WW1

With that metal ring at the junction between the handle and blade and the "T" backbone of the blade, plus it's about a foot long this "knife" looks like a bayonet.
That’s what it is I’d bet. It’s about the right shape and size for a bayonet lug
Yah
yeah, it *HAS* to be a bayonet. knives dont have those rings, and the shape of the blade is triangular, meaning it was indeed meant for combat. .. musket combat, but combat nonetheless.
It's a late 1800's French Bayonet. There's one for sale up on eBay that looks like this.
@@KumaTsunami, it seems to be a heavily eroded Gras rifle (1874) bayonet with a quillion and a missing pummel.

Your absolutely good at it and it's just like amazing
I’ve never done any sandblasting but I like the results and it’s ok to watch
I'm pretty shure that this is a french model 1874 baïonnette (bayonet). Modified in the trench by some soldiers

That cat has epic patience. Most would have pounced on that piece of fish as soon as you had set it there.
Watching the restore process is always interesting. Turning a piece of rust back into metal with the sandblaster is just so cool.
Amazing work as always! Not to be pedantic, but that is a bayonet, almost certainly WWI or earlier. Very cool resto job. The cat, imo, should be named Resto. Short for restoration.
yeap, and a triangular bayonet which alot of people think are ilegal base on geneva convention

I was not expecting the cat, but it was a very welcome addition
Cats are so funny, “I can’t eat that it’s not plated properly”
Cats are very contextual learners, so it may genuinely not have recognised the salmon as food until it was in the food dish.
"do you like sand blasting?" man its one of the best things ever created
sand blasting looks cool
Sandblasting looks a lot like spray paint, so satisfying!!!
"lets remove all this rust" and like magic, the knife is gone!
That’s knife turned out to be a thing of beauty. Made all the more attractive by the rust pit marks left in the blade. 👍
Wow omg that looks so good!
I think your cat should be called clean because you cleaned everything in your videos and now everything that you made is nice and pretty and shiny and works great
I like how you kept it pitted instead of sanding it smooth. You gave it some character, while saving yourself a ton of sanding.
Great job! This is a piece that most people would probably have thrown away, but you have given it new life! You should name the baby Tyson.
The noise it makes 🤣 9:02 I love this guy's sense of humor in all the vids, keep it up!
That Bayonet is definitely very happy with its new found life and purpose, amazing work :D
I love how you made the rust pits into a feature. And it's even functional, it can be used as a knife! Also, yes, I like sandblasting, it's really satisfying to watch. But here's a question, too. I've seen a lot of youtubers who just use sandblasting as their only cleaning tool. Rust, old paint, - everything is just sandblasted off. But here, you used electrolysis and manual removal, and only sandblasted what remained after that. And I believe I've seen at least one other restorator who does similar things. So, is there any special reason not to stick to just sandblasting? Also, possible name for the cat: Partner.
Im not tysy but I've worked with sandblasting before the point of removing as much as you can before sandblasting is that it saves your sandblasting media from becoming too dirty. When the rust and such is blasted off, it doesnt disappear or get filtered out really. I suppose another reason is finding out whether or not there's enough material left to bother with the project to begin with. Rust can cause severe damage.
As an art conservator - Electrolysis and chemical reduction of rust can cause greater pitting than just sandblasting, and can also result in complex corrosion processes further down the line. However, they are faster & easier than sandblasting, and as others have said, it saves you sandblasting medium (which is expensive). Electrolysis in particular can also convert corrosion product back into metal, saving more material. And, if there are toxic materials such as heavy metals present, sandblasting can result in heavy metal poisoning, which is obviously not great to deal with.
@@marihagemeyer8166 Exactly, usually why paint is stripped before sandblasting on things because of lead
Me thinks that all the manual filing &, sanding at the beginning is just adding unnecessary processes. If I were doing it I would remove as much crap as I could with a flap wheel & dremmel first, then use manual tools to finish the finer details not the other way around.
@@SharpForceTrauma Rust can cause severe damage - yeah, and sandblasting indiscriminately can cause a lot more. So as you point out, you want to ensure there's enough metal under the oxide to work with, but also enough to not end up sending the whole thing into the sandblasting media sump. Same reason for electrolysis. This will remove _only_ the oxidised metal, it's a great way to avoid blasting away what little foundation you have left.
I love Sandblasting! It's so satisfying to see the change from the rust before and after you use it. Just like every single one of your videos I enjoy.
You said it, @TysyTube! It is a transformation!
Amazing transformation
Depending on the cat's gender: for a male- Agni, which means fire, which describes the beautiful eyes. For a female- Rococo, which is an elegant Victorian era fashion in France and would fit the elegance.
