We finish up some tuning on Shawn's 1977 280Z. The car is running an MS2 PNP standalone, 550cc injectors, $130 eBay turbo, and a Godzilla Raceworks manifold.
After fixing a few issues with the setup, we now have it starting and idling well, and making decent power even though we are currently distributor limited to 21* of timing.
Previously the car made about 190whp on 13psi. Now. With the new exhaust manifold setup and 3* exhaust, we were able to make about 200whp at only 9psi. Once the boost controller is wired up, we will shoot for more!
Hey nice parts :) Thanks again for the business!!
Thanks for this... it's good to see Shawn's hard work coming together with lots of help from you guys.
He's done a great job with it! Glad to help where we can 🤙
any way to get in contact with Shawn. I also have the an L28ET and wanted to pick his brain about turbo and how he connected the vac lines on his protunerz manifold. I have the V1 manifold from them with their fuel rail
Man that 280z sounds so nice
Would love to see an update on this Datsun 280z. This video gives me hope for mine+
Wicked sounds!
so happy for u guys man super knowledgeable keep pushing💪💪
Thank you!
Sheesh, that pull @6:10 is 10 pounds?!??!???! I gotta finish my Datsun turbo project, thanks for the excitement! Dang this makes me so itchy!!!!!
Great job, that light weight Z scoots better now!
I need to get my swap finished 😅 also have an L28ET in my 240Z but too lazy to wire it up
Hello can you help what kind turbo you use and the manifold conversion you use it?
I have been wondering if you put a compound turbo set up using a electric turbo first then one off the exhaust. I’m poor so I can’t try my ideas but I have a 76 280z that I hope to build one day and want to build it to make lots of power and add new ideas I have as far a power and body mods that’s not what everyone has done.
Luv the wheels and the hood flag.
I’m building a 280 z what can you tell me to help out when I get to building the motor
Has a dyno Still loves to street tune for that final finesse lmao You can take the racer our of the streets but you can't take the streets out of the racer
Haha you know it!
My buddy had a 71 240 with a Arizona Zcar intake and a 4barrel Holley 394 with a single 2.5" Flowmaster 40 series it sounded like a 500hp beast but just had flat tops and made about 225
cool
Stock F54/P90 with non-turbo flattops made same HP at 7.5 pounds of boost in my car on a dyno dynamics dream crusher.
What’s the exhaust set up?
Definitely one of the sexiest platforms ever made period 😂😊
Love the sound of the L series😍 Those wheels are perfect! What rims are those? Yet i wonder.. shouldn't an L28 be able to make 400+hp? I guess those builds also rev up way higher.
It's hard to push the L series over 350 imo
@@winstonpratt604 It's hard maybe. It's doable so i don't mind putting in what it takes if i ever have the chance to get a Z. Sice i know the Z Speed Shop Shinohara has built in the 90s it's my dream car :D Even if it would take years to build that engine it's worth it to me.
@winstonpratt604 It's not that hard to make 350rwhp I've heard of all out turbo l28 builds making 600 to 700 horse power.
@@That260z And that's in tha 80s and 90s.. On carburettors too!😵😁😎👌
Any updates on this? Would love to see current numbers after once the boost controller is on
Carburetor or fuel injection?
Fuel injection all the way!
Needs some coil packs and it would be 😎
Yes it does, we could gain full control of the ignition map with that and make a noticeable difference in power and driveability. Couple that with a nicer turbo and he would be in there!
that is next phase, just need to add a few things before that.
I'd be interested to see how much whp it makes with stock manifolds. You're down about 40-50hp over stock manifolds.
????A stock 280zx turbo makes 180 engine hp. This is 205 at wheels. Low boost.
Yes it's down on hp.
@@skirkland1980 "Yes it's down on hp" Just to clarify- Youre saying it "should" be at roughly 250~ whp on 9 psi?
@@SidewaysGts Yes. I'm curious what the intake runner ID is. I'm assuming it's 1.5". The intake port is 1.375". A mismatch like that can cause low hp numbers. For reference mine is almost exactly the same combo with just a bigger cam and makes 465whp @23psi boost through an auto trans and very loose converter. Also made 280whp with a completely stock L28et, ebay turbo @ like 12psi.
@@skirkland1980 "For reference mine is almost exactly the same combo with just a bigger cam and makes 465whp @23psi boost" Would you be willing to share your exact set up and what kind of dyno this was on?
Sheesh
anyone know those wheels
Rota TBT
Damn I making 303hp/308tq on 6lbs of boost on my l28 made into an ET.
High compression?
We need more details on 303hp at 6 lbs! What cam, flat top pistons with a P90 head, ported? What turbo, injectors? Can we get an ignition table?
