GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Red Wings (04.11.24) | Crosby Assists On 1,000th Goal

After a few days off, the Pittsburgh Penguins returned to work against the Detroit Red Wings looking to get back in a playoff position. Only a few minutes into the game, Drew O’Connor scored the first goal of the game by crashing the net and picking up a garbage goal. The Red Wings responded with a goal of their own. Late in the 1st period, Kris Letang took the lead back for the Penguins. But once again, Detroit had an answer. In the 2nd period, Sidney Crosby scored his 41st of the season to take the lead again. Adding to that lead shortly after was Bryan Rust. Just like the end of the previous period, Detroit scored a late goal to make the score 4-3 for the Penguins at the end of the 2nd. Jeff Carter came up big for the Penguins on a penalty kill scoring a short-handed goal to make the score 5-3. The Red Wings scored two quick goals to tie the game. Lucas Raymond finished his hat trick with Detroit's 5th goal of the night and forced overtime. Crosby collected the puck near the net and curled back finding Erik Karlsson in the high slot. Karlsson let a big slapshot fly past the Detroit goalie to win in overtime. With his assist on the Karlsson goal, Crosby now has 1,000 assists in the NHL. The Penguins won with a final score of 6-5 and moved back into a playoff spot.

  • i was at the game, the ot goal was absolutely electric. the place had one big shared emotion the whole game it was like a roller coaster it really was amazing. great win man it was my first game too. God bless

    • @@tony3109 genuinely man, i been pens fan for my whole life basically. looked at the tv and my favorite animal was a hockey team and i fell in love with them at 4. i been to washington games commanders and stuff but man, this is such a community. pittsburgh is truly amazing. im not from here just here for a bit but i wish i could stay.     • Incredible seeing grown men playing in the top league who can't play a simple 2 on 1 correctly leaving the other guy going into a breakaway. Happened twice in that game with Letang and Petts.

  • Man I hate, and love these games at the same time. I grew up a Red Wings fan, but living in NE Ohio, I am in the Pittsburgh viewing area, and being able to watch every Pens game they grewon me. 08, and 09 were awesome. No matter who took the cup, I won😅

    • @@gearsofMEAT the 80s-early 00s were the best time to be a Red Wings fan. Always in the hunt at least, more than a couple cups along the way, and the players they had especially the Russian 5. Those were the days. Funny story, and I'm sorry this is so long, I will make this quick. My papa got me into hockey, the first game we watched was his favorite team (Chicago) against the Wings. Wings trounced the Hawks something like 7-0, and I told my papa that I really liked them. From that day forward it was a little rivalry between us.

  • Sydney Crosby is proving that he is still THE MAN ! Hall of famers come through when their teams need them the most . Here is a perfect example of that . Eric Lindros never did that once with the Flyers . I have no idea why he is in the hall of fame none .

  • If the Pens D would quit pinching all the time they probably win this one 5-3 and numerous other games throughout the season. I'm not sure why Sullivan hasn't adressed that, it's their biggest weakness.

    • @psynautic Well I have zero trust in Jarry. I truly believe he's game thrower. Ned is in pain needs break bad. Crazy as it sounds , bring Blomqvist up from wbs for Bruins. He is much more dependable then Jarry. 3rd best In ahl , 5th in saves , he could handel such game. No doubt that has crossed Dubas & Sullivan's mind

  • I know Karlsson won them the game but he's been an absolute defensive liability all season. Detroit should not have gotten a point out of this game. He straight up cost us at least one of their last goals, if not both. The guy needs to seriously reevaluate his defensive game.

  • If the d actually played their positions 4/5 of those goals wouldn’t of even went. Pathetic going to overtime against Detroit. That goal petry was on ned but Petterson should’ve just blocked it.

    • I don't know if you know anything about hockey but you should have been able to tell how bad the Pens defense is from this game alone. The problem isn't with either of the goalies, it's with the lack of defense.

    • @@rlsuth odd, the only difference in the last 10 games where the Pens have been 7-0-3 is Ned in goal. Jarry was 2-7-2 in his last 11 starts before Ned took over. Seems like you don't know anything about hockey.
