This week i built a DIY Bed that is 100% made of plywood - no screws or mechanical fasteners. you can assemble it without tools and it´s made from 1,5 sheets of plywood so it doesn´t cost more than 130 bucks
super happy with how it looks and how easy the build was!

This is an amazing design, i feel truly inspired by how simple it is to build, put together, yet it looks like an amazing modern finished piece. Well done!
As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement kzhead.infoUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!
Woodworking, electronic music and dogs... The finer things in life!
Nice one ! This would be a great idea for a Maker challenge - build a piece of furniture from just 2 sheets of plywood without using hardware fasteners (or a CNC). Thanks for sharing & Happy Sunday! :)
Great design Laura. I love the idea of the "headboard" being angled for a backrest. Pretty ingenious!
I’m very impressed by this. The economy of materials while retaining the structural rigidity is fantastic. I can see the same method employed for making other items of furniture, perhaps a couch frame, even a coffee table base. Excellent video!
Einfach und schön! Das mit der Rückenlehne ist einfach genial. Vielleicht bau ich mir das nach. Danke für's teilen!❤❤❤
I just love it. All the builds you make look so simple i imagine they need a long time conceiving before. Congratulations
Very cool design. I actually prefer it with no mattress - it reminds me of the 'house skeletons (new builds) we used to play in as children when the workers went home. Very architectural.
Look how happy Smudo was to join you on the finished product :)
The best bed frame I've seen in youtube so far. And it's all wood.
Very cool! I love how the back is designed to hold itself in place. It all just works!
Do you have the plans for this build? I would love to do it but looked on your website and couldn't find them. Thanks!!
This was an excellent idea And your dog is so cute i loved him
Hello Laura!! I’m folllowing you since long time ago. Please don’t stop to do more videos because you are our strength to do things like you do.
Absolutely gorgeous. Absolutely mind-blown. I’m speechless. What a beauty on the eye and the tickle in the brain this bed does. Complete admiration
Hey there. Again! Another potential design classic!
I love this design.
Outstanding design. So simple, so effective not just in terms of looks but practicality too
Never a video without Smudo! 😄❤❤❤ I love the bed design, your approach is always so simple and functional. I wish I had a mind like yours!
Hey Laura, I just made one of these today (with a little modifying) to suit it fitting in the back of my van. I can't believe it's possible to make such a solid bed from a single sheet of 30mm ply. It's nice knowing I have something I can add a headboard to later on when I move back into an apartment, and there was just enough scrap to make 12 door wedges to sell + a coffee table attachment for the bed. Thanks for your inspiration!
That’s amazing! Do you have any pictures? And how is it faring now a year later?
@@5rhymez yes I do. It's faring great. Shoot me a PM?
@@thejoetandy you responded! Thanks! How do you do a PM?
@@5rhymez they're making it hard, I can't find the link any more. What's your IG handle?

Ein steckbares bett. Very, very, very wunderfein, was du da wieder gestrickt hast! :) Schönen sonntach @ll :)
Wow! Im very (illogically) particular about furniture design and this is exactly the sort of nuance i look for in it. Awesome work!
Great build!!!! I made a similar platform bed for myself a while ago. I used similar box joint construction on a perimeter frame and salvaged a tilt mechanism from an IKEA tilt storage bed frame for under mattress storage. But since I was moving around at the time, I made the frame members hollow beams for wight (solid plywood members can get heavy). And your design makes adding things like side tables easy. You could attach them like the head board.
You're like the coolest cool person ever.
even the way she walks is cool
This is amazing! Also, those table saw shots were DOPE.
Excellent piece and execution of design! Simple joinery, dowels and glue where needed! Bravo!
Lovely design. I’m really digging plywood designs at the moment and loved the contrast with the painted black pieces. I’m hoping to build some bedside tables this year and may follow it with a bed in a similar design. Thanks for sharing
Neat 👍 I like the idea you can disassemble it :)
Yeah this is great for "apartment vagabonds" and college students, or storing away in a guest bedroom
And people without trucks
I wonder: would you consider bringing back the music recommendations at the ends of the videos like you had a couple of years ago?
I just had to ask when I saw you sitting in front of the record collection at the end of this video.
Very nice! I love the contrast between the black frame and the slats. Your technique for making repetitive cuts with the track saw is very effective. Great work!
Perfect, especially for someone that may frequently move - can easily disassemble, be carried by one person, and fit in their car! 😊🏆🏅
That is such a good and simple design and it looks like you can easily flat pack it as well! When is your new furniture line coming out? 😁
When laminating wood or doing any glue up put a little salt on after your glue. You’ll almost eliminate slow drifting in clamps while drying.
Simple, practical and good looking. Good job.
Gorgeous work!!! I try to sketch something like this all the time. I LOVE your work!
You have an awesome choice of music, it perfectly matches the mood, pace, and character of your videos. Nice job.😏👍🏽
Add my “dorm desk” to this and we’d be on our way to furnishing small room design furniture line that you take apart and stack, lol. Much easier to move in somewhere with a “pile” of lumber😉
Love the artistic style of the video. No gab; wasted time; just great shots, and clear presentation.
I'm always afraid I'm going to repeat myself. BUT, I LOVE these videos, and I'm very grateful for your channel. Thank you again, for another fantastic video.
Noticed your DJ set up in the back ground. You should do killer record wall display next
Me: oh, those joints are a little loose. Also me: oh, they fit nice now that it's painted, I'm dumb. I laughed out loud, literally, at Smudo "waiting for glue to dry" 🤣🐶
It was so funny how he fell asleep :)
Thank you Skillshare for supporting my friend Laura! I am thinking about signing up for your service just to show my appreciation. (And to learn a few new things.) Great bed Laura and always a pleasure to see my pal Schmoodo too!
I’ve had an idea for a bed with no metal. Maybe I’ll do it this year. Love yours. Great work!
Does it make interesting squeaks or creaking sounds when you move around on it? I really like the overall design, especially with it incorporating a headboard.
Good question
Non-off-gassing hopefully...
Minimalism is the future!! 😍
Yes!
That’s because there will be nothing left and nobody can afford anything 🤪
I like this design very much! No screws, just gravity and a few dowels. I like it because it's modular. You can easily swap out any part for a new one quickly. You can change the entire headboard if you want it to be taller, or at a different angle. You could build different bases (taller or wider or both) if you want to add some storage under the bed. You could add bedside tables; make a horizontal arm from the same size board as the stiles, attach a small tabletop to it with dowels, and cut a slot into the headboard to slide the table arm in from the front. Or, you could make an L-shaped arm for the table, and attach it by adding notches to the stiles. You could add a footboard using the same design as the headboard. Does the headboard slide backward when you lean against it? You might need to add shallow notches to the stiles to keep the headboard in one spot. They would only need to be 5mm or 10mm deep, just enough to keep the headboard from sliding backward. If you cut a sawtooth into the stiles, you could then adjust where the headboard stops, and each cut of the sawtooth could allow the headboard to rest at a different angle - steep, medium, shallow. SO many options with this design. Maybe Ikea will buy it from you!
Hey lady I might have to make one of these beds for myself now. Thanks for the video. Keep it up and I’ll keep watching, sharing and liking!
If you are curious: the varnish is “Universal Schichlack”: www.clou-shop.eu/wl-system/1k-klarlacke/universal-schichtlack-9200.html .
Thank you! 🙏 I was about to give up hope :D
Excellent choice in tools. Quicker, cleaner, safer and easier.
If you can afford festool. They are expensive .their only as good as the craftsman.I have never been a fan of over priced tools
There's nowt in this video that couldn't have been done with a tool costing a tenth of those daft festools
@@artnouveau4332 Something is only overpriced if you're too stupid to be able to make it pay for itself. To put down a far superior tool because of price shows you have never used them enough to understand their attributes. Go snap a chalk line.
@@jongmassey same goes for you crusty. Something is only overpriced if you're too stupid to be able to make it pay for itself. To put down a far superior tool because of price shows you have never used them enough to understand their attributes. Go snap a chalk line.
Another great build ! Simple and clean design. Awesome job ! Thanks for sharing !
Simple but elegant . Thank you Laura !
a clean and nice design as always, out of curious, because i am a big man, do you feel those ribs you made through your matras? love the solution for the head board. well keep them coming as always
I only slept on it once so far-didn‘t feel the ribs
As another big guy, who sleeps more comfortably in a 'recliner' position (back angled, butt lower down, knees slightly up, feet same height as knees), I'm wondering if this very excellent and stylish flat bed concept could be adapted to the shape of those recliner beds/chairs? Like maybe a bed of shorter straight slats (3 or 4 slat pieces to make 1 rib), with those shorter pieces overlapping and hinged by longer and larger-diameter dowels going left to right through holes in all the slats at the hinge points, so the bed of slats could be bent into the shape of the recliner as viewed from the side. May not be able to use the cross lap cuts joining to similar cuts on the black boxes, unless some way of making them able to work through the range of adjustment is figured out (like maybe half-holes in the bottom edges of the slats, and instead of black boxes, have trestle rails with the cross lap cuts in their top edges that would engage the half-circle cuts in the slats, with the trestles supported by adjustable-height leg assemblies?). Sounds like a design that would be a lot of fun to work out!
I would think that the ribs wouldn't be an issue since the body weight is evenly distributed over them, much like the IKEA bed slats. Nice design
Wondering if there’s a making plan available, meaning, measuring and stuffs.
I am also looking for plans, can we buy some?
a blueprint will be helpful
REAL HANDYMAN CAN MAKE IT ONLY BY WATCHING IT.. THIS KIND OF VIDEO IS ABOUT IDEA OR CONCEPT. ANYONE CAN USE THEIR OWN MEASUREMENT OR EVEN DEVELOP THE IDEA.
@@1nsanewayn3 I agree. I think a lot of 'dreamer' noob makers get mesmerised by the slick editing. I think Laura presents her design through the process. That said.... she is also working with a quite well equipped workshop which is probably out of reach to a lot of beginners without access to similar, expensive tools as well.
Awesome build. Great idea to capture everything on paper. Thanks for what you do.
Vinyl rules! 👍🏻🐕
won’t that wood-to-wood joints squeak like crazy after a while?
What is the product used at 2:06. Very interested in this pre-treatment before sanding. The edges turned out really well.
Looks like shellac, maybe?
@@wihikers That is kind of what I presumed, but wasn't positive. That is the first time that I have seen it applied before sanding. Kind of makes sense though. Interested to try the technique.
So wonderfully creative! Love seeing things all click together like that 🙌🙌
Great video and amazing work! And just Dj's will notice the amazing gear she has in the background
Wow! Another amazing creation. Thank you for sharing it. I’ve got a couple of questions for you: Is it heavy? You used particle board/MDF and that’s usually a heavy material. And why didn’t you go horizontal with the base instead of vertical? It seems that the vertical base absorbs the weight placed on the mattress and causes it (the mattress) to lose its form when some lays on it, making the bed uncomfortable. I do love the simplicity of the design!
"woof" Smudo, 2020.
Love it Laura so simple and yet so stylish we'll done! Tony from Western Australia.
The dog is adorable!
is it high enough to vacuum under it? yes i know. im asking the german questions here.
My dog drops lots of hair every single day of the year so I always have to think of the vacuum first too!
Looks to be about 4" or so, certainly high enough to broom or Swiffer, maybe not high enough for a Roomba. If you were to change the dimension of the black boxes that hold the slats, you could certainly make it a bit higher, but will take a bit more plywood.
What's the material spread on the sheet at 0:20?
Shellac?
I realllly like this design. Since it's so simple, it leaves a lot of areas for customization. Like if you decide to make it a twin instead of a queen, you can make one of the base boxes longer than the other and build an end table that's built into the bed. Or if you're tired of the bed moving around on frame, make some taller boards for the edges and foot and drop them in to encase the bed.
Your design and build methods are always proper smart ....I learn something new every video. Thank you.
Hey Laura, because of the gas heater: Do you have problems with humidity in your workshop?
I guess she has a lack of heat in her workshop.
You need to place a board under the mattress, springs especially, they doesn't like gaps
looks like she probably put a boxspring under the mattress.
@@johns1307 looking nice for the video doesnt mean is correct.
Your work always inspires me! Thanks for sharing with us all!
Love that Future Islands vinyl in the background 😎 Hello from Baltimore! Thanks for a great video
“This is very soothing.” -my wife
The Festool machines used in construction here, are most likely beyond any DIY budget, but this project was fun to watch, and it's great to see a woman on the tools in such a male dominated trade. Enjoyed this a lot and hope this encourages more women to take up this creative work.
Great video! I'm currently fitting out a boat into my home, I think I'm going to try this technique for making the beds, it's awesome!
Amazing as always just want to say thank you you make your content so enjoyable to watch with your music thanks again.
Wie Smudo am Ende bellt 😂😂

¡Hermoso diseño Laura, gracias por compartir tu trabajo!
Now lie in it.
love this design! i like how it has a place for under the bed storage. i read in bed a lot to have a place for books and and shoes would be great! well done!
very cool. And something that would probably sell very very well, for both it's looks and simplicity.
Very nice! Gives me all sorts of ideas on adaptations (which is my favorite aspect of a well-designed video project)! Very stylish, elegant, and sturdy-looking!
What a brilliant design! I bet it will not get all squeaky like ordinary beds.
Yes, no video without Smudo ! I have one from a Spanish shelter. Is my second dog and i love him so much. Life without a dog is terrible. Every Sunday at coffee time is video time. Nice bed. I also built one if different. I like your buildings very much Greetings from Berlin.
Rompes paradigmas Laura, Felicidades por tu trabajo. Mente sana en cuerpo sano
This is exactly what I want for my 5th wheel!
Found this while looking for ideas to finish my own design. Thank you for posting the video.
Der Blick, als Smudo am Ende bellt - einfach köstlich! ;-)
What an amazing design, great video Laura
This was ingenious! Always great content. Smudo is the cutest!
Thank you for your wonderful craftsmanship. I enjoy your comfortable approach to the project.
