I Made Celeste but it's 3D. . . I got permission from the Celeste developers to release my 3D remake of Celeste, as long as I release it for free. I put a lot of effort into this one since it is the first one that I have actually been able to release, so hopefully you guys like it. If this goes well, we might be able to see if there are other indie games that I could remake and release as well.

@@1cristianBEST Exactly, they file a cease and desist which just means you have to take the game down - there's no legal repercussion. One it's out it would be out forever in some form via other people uploading it - like a leak.
@@Squidmoto3 Yeah, you’re right. He acts like it’s an immediate lawsuit upon release when it’s really not. Additionally, he could change it just enough to where it wouldn’t be copyright infringement and then the game is there forever.

Yeah it definitely helped them do design decisions. For example how the dash works. The way they did it is way simpler so it's easier to pick up. His take from this video is a bit more hard to get right so it's better for pros.

If Celeste ever did get a full 3D game, I imagine up and down dashes would be tied to separate buttons (I'd personally use the left and right triggers), while sideways dashes would be based on the direction you were facing. Diagonals would just be done by executing vertical and horizontal dashes simultaneously.
Or it makes things the camera clips in to mosty transparent
And if they’re willing to let go of downwards dashed (not diagonally downwards) it could be the jump button so it could be similar to a “double jump” except it just sends you straight up
Thats a nice workaround. I'd say that the way how you dash is the only thing of this project where i wasnt that impressed
I feel like a good way to do it would be having the dash controlled horizontally by the left stick or WASD and vertically by the mouse or controllwr gyro
@@zOOpygOOpert it would still be finicky with a mouse but gyro would work well all you need to worry about is camera inaccuracies from the right stick

The fact that they made an official celeste 3d today
A couple of nitpicks/suggestions regarding movement. First, there is also the crouch, which can get you through tight spaces and which can be done with dashes as well. Second, given the trouble with straight-upward dashes, it might be a good idea to have an additional key/button specifically for dashes straight upward. You can already do that with crouch-dashes in the original game, though it’s normally unmapped by default. As for side rooms, you could have them branch off to the sides in a way that prevents you from reaching further in the main path.
The fact that Cody uploaded this video when Christmas nearly comes is just the best thing ever to witness.

When you make voxel games or games with low poly characters, you should use a shadow technique called shadow volumes (sometimes called stencil shadows), it creates perfect shadows based on the mesh geometry and it would look really good with this type of graphical style. Unity doesn't have it by default but there are probably assets or whatever that allow you to have it
NO DOUBTS THAT THIS IS THE BEST REMAKE YOU HAVE DONE. Seriously, you have improve a lot in every aspect, i cant wait to your next video in 2031

After playing for a bit I can say it's a lot of fun! It's not perfect but the amount of details just make it feel like Celeste and that's exaclty what I wanted from this game!

Short idea: Have a button you can hold down which makes the dash always point straight up, to make it easier to traverse with upwards dashes. (Also, this looks great, good job :) )
I was thinking for fluidity's sake you could time it to pressing dash and jump at the same time, or perhaps shift

I think that this game might work better as a first person game. Hear me out: even if it might be nauseating to go really fast, I think it would make it possible to actually have ceilings. This would also make it possible to dash in any direction. I do however admit that it might be difficult to make this hypothetical game; since you’d most likely have to make entirely different levels and rooms. However with the limitations that there currently are. I feel like you made this project the best it could possibly be! You’re honestly one of the best game dev KZheadrs I watch. Hope it doesn’t take 9 years for your next project 😅.

Great game, I tried it out and it works very well! I only know very little about coding, but I can assume that even though it's just the first level and a test room. It was still tricky to make (Figuring out code, designing the character/level, animations, etc.) Props to the devs for giving you permission and nice job on this game. Can't wait to see what the next video is :)

Outstanding work! Little recommendation, dedicated button to dash upwards.
For the dashing straight up, check if the player is pressing any directional buttons, and if not, dash up. That would let you ensure you know where you're going when you do dash up.
This is probably my favorite project from you, right next to the 3d remake of Zelda. This looks really polished, good job!

4:17 I do a lot of pixel art, and learning this a couple years ago was also really interesting, but also makes a lot of sense. It’s easier to make the Madeline’s movement sprites separate from her hair’s sprites. There would just be too many different frames to draw for her sprites. Also, Aseprite is great for pixel art!

First person sounds like it might be cool to add at some point. I'm still learning and trying to get better at making environments look good, it's definitely one of the harder things for me
