A 6.4 meters long, remote-controlled, Lego road train that drives on 200 wheels. Axles are positioned at the center of each trailer to make the rear path follow the front (almost). Hinge joints are used between trailers. A few stop motion scenes included just for fun. Enjoy!

Wheels: 200 Lego wheels of different sizes (mostly small)
Motors: 4x Lego PF XL motor

  • Back in the 1950s, a company called LeTourneau was working on overland train systems pretty much like this. They wanted them to be usable in many different roles like forestry or mining, off road remote work, but their most interesting contract was for an overland train to service the DEW line sites, various anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic missile radar sites that ran across Canada and Alaska. It didn't pan out for them though.

    • I think that's a compositing trick (like with Santa moving as the vehicle still crosses through the frame later)! It'd be impossible to hold it so still that it doesn't move even a single pixel for the whole duration that the figure is moving. I wonder how exactly they handled recording the figure, though, and whether they painted the shadows on manually... it's a really cool shot!
