    • Yea I don’t agree that it’s a form of dominance just a form of bonding. Animals don’t have concepts like gay or homo. So what we might think of as strange animals are fine with. They don’t discriminate.

    • Don't be naive they are doing this because they are closed in a park with with disproportional sex ratio they would have in open habitat and when they are closed in park they lose completely their instincts and territory dominance.

    • @@siloemascolo2769 Actually it has nothing to do with a 'disproportionate sex ratio', it isn't a substitute for female lions or anything to do with losing instincts. In the wild sometimes groups of males travel around together, and this is a way they assert dominance and maintain the hierarchy of their group to avoid conflict. It isn't even sexual from the animals perspective, and it isn't the same as with a lioness. It's just part of a male lions natural behaviour, mounting other males is just another way that they display dominance, it happens just as much in the wild with lionesses around, because it's a completely different thing.

    • @@60sbabydoll777 Then what's with the affectionate head-rubbing, & the one who was just on top (thus _supposedly_ dominant) at the end rolling around with his belly up while the other stands above him (a _supposedly_ submissive pose)? 🤔 (Part 1/4 cuz invisible character limits) Having studied animal behavior for 35+ years, I'll sum it up: There's a lot of complicated nuance to dominant/submissive animal behaviors; it's not such a black & white issue, & there are a VAST number of exceptions to the oversimplified ideas most of the public has been fed by often outdated basic education, flawed studies, & theories taken as fact despite mounds of evidence against them. Many pioneer biologists in the old days had highly colonialist mindsets & superiority/inferiority complexes instilled into them as a product of their time, & they wrote with this bias, which has remained fairly unchallenged & just accepted for centuries because it "made sense", thus was brought into our classrooms. And so, even slightly more modern takes still often view behaviors through that outdated lens, looking for patterns that fit the narrative, rather than seeing if there's a whole different one at play. They also build their bias on repeatedly professed observations of greatly altered animal populations, which are passed off as "as natural as possible", when the whole setup was actually built on misunderstandings. A major example is the now-debunked idea that all wolf packs operate on Alpha, Beta, down to Omega social structures; those were formed by observing unrelated wolves forced to live together in captivity, when most packs are mostly related family units who can choose to remain or leave anytime, or be voted out if they're troublemakers. The studied wolves instead had developed abnormal coping mechanisms for their man-made unnatural living situations (superiority/inferiority complexes, paranoia, rejection sensitivity, desperation for attention, elevated introversion/extroversion, antisocial behavior, etc), & the researchers thought that those resulting mental illnesses were distinct militaristic ranks & social roles. 🤦‍♀ But I digress...

    • (Part 2/4) While there MAY have been some aspects of dominant/submissive behavior here, it's not completely certain. And even if there is, it's almost never a case of simply "one or the other". Social animals are NOT engaged in constant power-struggles, as we've been conditioned to think. It certainly happens, & mounting behavior CAN be part of that. But you have to look at the context of the situation, the body language, etc. And in this clip, if there IS any power-play (which is uncertain), it's extremely casual & light, & definitely not the focal point of the interaction, but instead a potential by-product. By the end, we see both dominant & submissive acts by BOTH lions in equal measure. If we were to judge simply by that, then these two lions almost certainly see each other as equals, & are actually putting mindful efforts into keep it that way. The "top" lion wanted to make it clear to his partner that he wasn't trying to become dominant, by immediately behaving affectionately & submissively after an act that COULD, in certain contexts, be taken that way (mounting). And the other lion showed receptive* body language throughout & immediately after the act, showing trust in the one servicing him, & returning the affectionate behavior afterwards to show approval for the activity & the other's presence. ((*While he did bear his teeth at the topper a couple times & may have growled, that's pretty much 50/50 on either: 1) Telling the other he's had enough, which he did without any major threatening language, attacking, or moving away which he was free to do anytime... Thus, it may simply be lion language for "I think I'm done", or at worst would be a raw expression of mild annoyance, like "Hey, cut it out."... Or 2) He was on the way to climaxing. Any cats, big to small, will emit what seems like angry (growling) or pained (yowling) sounds/facial expressions when they're climaxing. While it's often claimed to be due to a male's barbed member hurting them, the barbs are basically the texture of the cat's tongue, so they're not THAT sharp. More like "textured for pleasure". The supposedly pained/angry expressions even happen when the bottom cat is the one who begged for the mating, & afterwards may exhibit gratefulness & affection with their topper, sometimes even begging for more. If you think about it, aren't a great deal of humans the exact same? Don't' their climaxing expressions & sounds oftentimes seem to mimic intense negative emotions? Don't they sometimes try to pull away out of sheer intensity sometimes, even when they're loving it? 😉 Thus, those who claim that it's always painful are assuming way too much. And thus also, it's very difficult to tell if a growling, teeth-baring feline receiver is disapproving or in ecstasy.))

    • (Part 3/4) He did oblige the other's submissive posture (lying on his back, belly-up), by standing over him. This could have been for many reasons, which there isn't enough context for to know for sure, but here are several possibilities: 1) Unrelated to the coitus, he simply heard/saw/smelled something & wanted to get a better view, 2) By happenstance, he wanted to stretch out his limbs & let circulation return to his legs from lying down for who knows how long with his limbs bent, 3) He was thirsty, hungry, any of dozens of unrelated impulses he was on his way to meet. *_...But if we DO examine the "dominant/submissive" angle:_* 4 a) He wanted to take a turn acting dominant to make sure that the other male didn't think of it as a power-play (though as I said, the other lion clearly wasn't pursuing such momentum, so this is unlikely, especially since that was only done AFTER lots of reassuring nuzzles & face-rubs had already taken place), 4 b) The same (taking a turn to feel dominant), but out of caring, to reassure the other male that they were balanced with one another, so the rolling topper wouldn't worry that he had overstepped his boundaries (like "We're good, buddy. See? You were up higher, now I am. Fair & square. You don't have to grovel on the ground"). (The way that bonded housecats will reaffirm their equal "ranking" by taking turns gazing at each other then looking away... [Because if one does all the staring, then that IS a power-play, which can be challenged by the other refusing to look away either, sometimes leading to fights... and being the only one to look away is submissive]. Just one of many examples, where dominant/submissive balances can be used as a reassurance of EQUALITY & affection, rather than its opposite.) 4 c) The same, but out of that sense of pride some felines get to hide perceived weakness from other onlookers (like when a domestic cat casually grooms itself to pretend it didn't just ungracefully fell off the desk) (Like "Huh? What do you mean I was on the ground as if I could've been losing a fight or being eaten? Nah look, see? I'm not injured!"). More of a "saving face in front of outsiders" action, with no concern about how the other male perceived him. Humans WERE watching, after all (& he did look their way at one point, perhaps to make sure that they saw that he was on his feet), & so could other lions, prey animals, competitors, etc. So perhaps he was just trying to show that he was still fit & healthy, as a self-preservation measure.

    • @@patrickbertlein4626 I wouldn't say "most" of the time it's about dominance. Most of the time it's about either reproduction, or pleasure, depending on the species. Aggressive mounting usually does NOT involve full-on coitus, just a quick aggressive couple of humps, or simply holding them in the locked position like a wrestler. That, I can assure you, is NOT followed by soft, gentle cuddling & nuzzling, followed by the one on top (supposedly dominant) proceeding to roll over in a SUBMISSIVE posture in front of their "opponent." 🙂 (Body language & context are more important than the action verb itself.) And female-female mating happens all the time too. In both cases, hundreds of species have examples. Dolphins will have mixed-sex orgies, not caring who is doing what with who as long as it feels good (they're pretty much all bi/pan). The majority of giraffe mating is between females, for one more targeted example; in-between meeting with males to briefly mate, the female herd members most often perform "necking" (courtship) & passionate mounting & tongue-tangling for companionship & pleasure with each other. Heck, there are even a few whiptail lizard species that are ONLY female! They evolved a high success rate of self-fertilization (their eggs hatch a bunch of baby clones of the mother, by a process called parthenogenesis, which 70 known vertebrate species are capable of in rare cases including hammerhead sharks, many snakes, & Comodo dragons). But those unisex whiptails still can't activate that function unless they go through the motions of mating. Which they exclusively do with other females, because that's all there are! 😯 And more than just mating, many same-sex animal couples also engage in courtship (certain calls/songs, synchronized dances, other ritual behaviors specific to mated pairs), affectionate bonding (which these lions clearly are doing, as I pointed out), & even raising young (or attempting to). They actually fill a valuable niche in that last regard. Many species of penguins notoriously may start with 2 or more eggs, but can only successfully raise one baby. Thus, they usually either kick out one of the eggs, or after the babies hatch, they're unable to make room for the second baby on their feet/in their sheltering pouch. So, the egg or baby is doomed to freeze to death. That's where the gay penguins come in, of either gender variety (though males tend to be more successful). Their bonds with their mate can last for years, or even a lifetime. They recognize each other in the huge crowds, exchange ritualistic vocalizations & beak rubbing, groom each other, snuggle, mate... & do their darndest to raise young (Infertile heterosexual couples do too, of course). They can still propagate their species, by taking in those otherwise doomed extra eggs/chicks (as well as any orphaned babies after seal or polar bear attacks kill their parents) & giving them a chance of survival. 😃 Some have been observed, both in the wild & at zoos, to resort to adopting a smooth rock, in hopes it'll hatch like an egg. 😂 But otherwise as I said, they'll adopt any abandoned babies eagerly. (Some, like humans, can be selfish though, & try to kidnap someone else's egg or chick because they wanna raise a baby soooooo badly, LOL, yikes!) One more fascinating case of systemic same-sex pairings: About 25% of male Black Swans settle into a homosexual lifetime bond with each other. They'll then be each others' wingmen & woo a female, who lets them mate with her. They treat her well so she sticks around, until she lays eggs. Then, they're like "Your job here is done, LOL bye!" & they chase her off (poor gal...😅 but many of them are used to it since it's so common), then the dudes proceed to raise the eggs like a normal pair, taking turns setting on the eggs, feeding the cygnets (fancy word for baby swans), etc! If you do some research, there's just so many fascinating discoveries out there in regards to animal "LGBT" mating habits. From fish who swap sex from female to male (or vice-versa), if for example, their harem boss dies & needs a replacement... to how both male & female flamingos & pigeons, & exclusively _male_ penguins, literally produce milk for their young ("crop milk", stimulated by prolactin just like in mammals, though lacking carbohydrates, instead mostly made of fat & protein), to how there are birds (the Ruff, a type of Sandpiper) with 4 genders (1 type of female, then 3 types of males with distinctive appearances, roles, & behaviors)!!! Their system's too complex for me to summarize, so look for an ârtĭçlę called, hehehe, uhh, "Rùff śë⨯: Scientists identify genetic sequence of a bird with four genders" (but with normal letters; Y.T. might not like if I type the phrase normally. But yeah, "Ruff" specifically, not the other spelling, hehe). It does a good concise job of it. 😳 The more one researches, the more we discover how outlandish yet surprisingly common these sorts of phenomena are. Nature's SO full of exceptions to the supposed "rules", that one realizes we really are just making those rules up. They seem so arbitrary in the face of the vast diversity of actual reality out there in nature. Discoveries that were suppressed since early explorer days (deemed too "depraved" to be published publicly) are finally allowed to resurface, & modern science & improved observation techniques are showing us just how little we really knew about the living world around us. And it really puts things into a new perspective. Nature truly is wild! 😃

I think 🤔 maybe? this is why neither lion is taking offense to being mounted, and why the first one being mounted in the video doesn't seem to mind his brother's ministrations 😅
