Silicone and sealant are often used in the home and workshop. That's why it's so important to know how to extrude silicone and sealant. In this video, we showed you how to properly tighten silicone with a silicone gun in three different ways. If you're into crafts and need to apply silicone to your home, few people know about this silicone trick | Be sure to watch this video every time called [Let's make the perfect silicone]
My father was a mechanical engineer and he did upkeep to our home as RNR. You are the only one in my 50+ yrs that is as smart with your techniques. TY
Thanks for sharing your techniques for easy and neat work
I've been struggling with smearing my caulk lines for years and you are saying applying a soapy solution will solve this problem. Unreal! I will definitely try this trick. Thanks a million my brother!
Have a happy New Year!
Applying soap is not recommended by the manufacturer and will prevent it from sealing. Fail
Awesome video...thank you for posting!!!
Thank you so much! Interesting and helpful hacks..looking forward to more tips❤
I needed to do this awhile back thanks
Odličan, jednostvan i stručan prikaz. Primjenit ću to sigurno
Great video, thanks. Quite comforting as I try to take on my first attempt. Not so sure about the last clip where you placed the adhesive. I get a feeling that it will create tiny opening for the mold build up when you pull out the strip. Let's see.

Yes agree, once you remove the tape it needs to be flattened as you will have a small gap otherwise!
This is the best hack yet, wish I had learned this a while ago - I have to do some caulking so I’m looking up tips now
I used to have a house with windows that had wooden frames. Every few years I had to repaint the frames and re-caulk around the glass. The first time that I sealed around the glass the caulking didn't seem to adhere to the glass properly in a few areas. The next time I removed the old caulking and cleaned the surface of the glass with rubbing alcohol. I applied new caulking and it bonded to the glass perfectly. This was a very helpful video. Thank you!
Fantastic, and when you think about it, it's So simple, BUT you've got to Think about it FIRST 😊😊😊

Wow... It is a very simple nice trick.
I like the soapy water spray. Not sure I could run tape straight enough along a 1700mm bath!!
Я приловчился вести пистолет навстречу выхода силикона под углом 45° ко всем сторонам,тогда всё ложится плотно и ровно,и не нужно после пальцем ровнять!(разумеется,за исключением места старта или стыка).
Good Job and Idea. Perfect 👍🏻
Wow! Thanks for the wisdom!
Super 👌 Excellent informative video JazakAllah Khair

Thanks,wonderful tip

Love the first bit where he’s cutting the end towards himself! I mean I was always taught to cut away from yourself esp with a blade like that! Cut it short as I bet he had to put a plaster on his thumb 🤣

And lets say if you have 1/8" crack and you want to fill it to depth 4 " & the crack is not stright any tricks. I have air compressor & that will blow silicone and it seem to hold up. do you have some thing that will work without the air compressor.
Merci pour l’astuce
This really really helped❤thank you

You might get a clean line of bead but as soon as soapy water hits the silicone it fails and will just slowly break down and pull away after a while. Try mastic gunning out a lump of silicone. Put it to one side & then spray it with soapy water and watch what it does to the silicone. It turns to a messy unworkable gunk. Profiling tools seals the join properly and gives a really neat, smooth finish.

Does cutting the nozzle at about 45 make your hand spray straight as you applicants it? I noticed the first two examples were really shaky but the 3rd was a lot less shaky than the others
I think he was purposely making the other methods look bad because he likes his way only. I've used lots of different methods, in my home and on military aircraft as a maintainer and always got a good, neat result. You need to take your time that's all.
Yeah he's a tosser
It was his way of explaining how NOt to do, than how to do it.

Very good!
I've applied sealers on daily basis for 39 years you have latex to use the little spit for the spit on the floor and put your finger in it and drag it across your bead if you have silicone use charcoal lighter fluid on your finger and then drag it across this prevents silicone.for or latex from sticking to your finger and allows you to get a nice smooth even bead

Good tips man, thank you!

Super like, thanks 👍
Brilliant mate.
I agree with euhar84 spraying soap over the silicon isn't the best idea, even though quite a few people use this method because of the risk of later detachment. Cutting the nozzle at a accurate 45 degree isn't that important either due to the fact most people will not be able to keep the gun/ nozzle at the same degree to the work edge whilst moving along, same with the sanding or trimming the sides of the nozzle. Thin quality masking tape the area is best, then don't over apply the Silicon- remember slow and steady with the movement of the gun with a medium pressure on the trigger is best. Try and purchase a silicone gun that stops the pressure when you let go of the trigger, that way if you stop and start the movement part way the the application it will not be as bad. Then wipe over the silicone with either a wet finger or a rubber silicone profiling tool, then remove top tape and wipe gently over the silicone again to remove any step the the tape might have made, then do the same with the lower tape. There isn't really a set way to applying silicone apart from making the area is really clean ( especially from old silicone) and dry, it will always be dependent to the surfaces i.e tiles, behind bath taps etc. On a straight run with no obticals with two smooth surfaces like in the video, I would do it free hand and not even need to wipe over.
Spraying soap ver the sealant is a STUPID IDEA it significantly compromises the performance of the sealant. I installed sealants professionally for over 40 years if someone spayed anything on the sealant before tooling it, they were fired on the spot. But it always needs to be dry tooled to improve the contact and the bond
Push the caulk ahead of the tube. The caulk will be forced into the opening and the edges will be cut at the surface.
You can learn a lot by watching this video

Soap will cause silicone detach! It penetrates underneath on the edges before smoothening with your finger. Just use special tool to take off the excess of silicone and NO water or soap is necessary.
This trick will work with elastomeric though, which sticks to clean surfaces under wet conditions.
No its work
@@Blazzz sure, it works, but one year later the edges detach and mold starts to grow
What special tool??

For the corners : Apply your silicone without putting on too much, by first cutting your nozzle as shown in the video. Then remove the excess with a popsicle stick. (A small size Ice popsicle, not a Magnum sized of course!)
,
YES ! And after that glide with the tip of a finger to make it even better ..And don't spray near the end of line you made because when you continue with silicone pistol silicone won't have a grip on detergent water( best is for glass cleaning ) surface, it must be dry !

You do not need tape at all , all you need is soapy water , the tape when pulled off elimates the tight seal

Yeah you're the only one in the world who knows how to make a nice piece of silicone I do lines 8 ft across garage doors in about 4 seconds with two pumps and they look nicer than that
WOW, are you single?
You should never spray water or water with soap on the surface of a new line of caulk. Latex based caulk...here as silicon caulk...is water soluble until it is set. You know it is water soluble because it cleans up easily after application....hands, tools, drops on other surfaces etc.. When you apply water, just after laying the bead, you are diluting the suspension that is caulk. This will alter is final cured properties.
This video is about silicone calk. Water or moisture speeds up the cureing of silicone . I learned that in a trade apprenticeship class.
@@rickshaw60 @rickshaw60 silicon caulk is not pure silicon. It is a silicon suspension in a latex matrix. When you look at the tube it states that it cleans up with water. If you've used it you know you can clean up the caulking gun, the work space, and your hands with water. The water proofing quality of the caulk does not begin until the fluid evaporates similar to that which occurs in the drying of paint. If you use water on the beads laid, you are actually diluting the mixture coming out of the tube. This will lead to weakness in the bond to the surface and its durability. The material that comes out of the tube is the precise mixture for application. Therefore, the most you ever use is a fine cloth slightly dampened, a finger, or any of the tools available to clean up caulking beads. Watering a caulk bead does nothing but negatively alter the quality and durability of the finished bead. You may have learned this as but it is incorrect. This is SGS F 500 siliconized latex caulk. It is not pure 100% silicon. As 100% pure silicon caulk requires mineral spirits for clean up, the taping method is absolutely recommended because mineral spirits can mar or discolor synthetic bath surround surfaces. That is the reason that siliconized latex (acrylic) is recommended most often...most people have synthetic bath surrounds. Ceramic tile baths benefit from 100 silicon caulk. If the surface receiving the bead of pure silicon caulk has any moisture around it, it automatically creates a weak spot. This is because silicon repels water. Any surface wetness will cause the bead to be lifted off the surface requiring sealing. That is why you never have water around the workspace when applying pure 100% silicon caulk.
@@xavariusquest4603 you know different reality than I do. I worked in commercial and industrial construction for 30 years. Got college credit for apprenticeship training. I have been instructed by engineers and chemist representatives of sealant manufacturers. Thank you for your instruction but I did my apprenticeship a d have been retired for nearly 20 years
@@rickshaw60 grats on a long career. Nothing I have written is incorrect. It is not only best practice and it's part of the manufacturers handling and installation instructions. As I originally posted, this siliconized caulk...you can see it in the video...spray bottles of water belong nowhere near a caulking job regardless of whether it is pure silicon or silicone latex/acrylic. Each tube contains a very important sentence...all surfaces should be clean an dry. Hence you use tape when using pure silicon if you are new to beading or the positioning isn't great or the surface is not compatible with mineral spirits. If a water cleanable caulk, then a slightly dampened cloth, a clean finger, or an appropriate tool can create a perfect integrated bead (gets into the joint line). These rules have been true for over 30 years...when siliconized latex entered the market. As a point, I am one of those experts you referenced...and have been for 40 years. This video should not be watched by DIYers because they will end up with results that are poor quality and lead to damage occurring to wall and subfloor structure not noticed until its resolution will require professional and expensive repair. Laying a good bead takes patience, commonsense, and practice...not tricks.
@@xavariusquest4603 sorry for being a bit of a smart ass. Comes with being an ironworker . I saw men try all kinds of tricks to work with the silicone we used . A contractor at Home Depot once told me in high-end million dollar houses where everything has to be as perfect as they can make it, they use the blue painter's tape trick. And it doesn't force you to be so neat.
Masking tape isnt good and leaves a little edge at the side of the silicon so not good
@@BasvanHeelRoseboom : Sorry I should have written blue painter's tape, not masking tape.

The soap water 💦 is a bad tip as it is the start of mould in the join even if it isn't in a high moisture environment vinegar is better than water
But how does the water enter the joint if you spray after running the silicone bead in?
