The famous 4WD, Off-road vehicle question. Petrol OR Diesel?
Relatively speaking Petrol engines put out more power than diesel engines, and diesel engines put out more torque than petrol engines. That is Turbo-diesel engines, there are normally very few aspirated engines around.
So what is the better application? Petrol engines are good for sand driving, dune driving, beach driving. Diesel engines are good for towing things and carrying heavy loads.
Give us a comment below on your thoughts. Petrol OR Diesel?
At last, a concise presentation that avoids a prolonged, biased discussion lasting 30 minutes on the reasons behind my preference for this over that.
Thanks mate for a no non-sense, short n sweet video 👍
As a mechanic who has owned a diesel for about a year, I'm getting to the stage where I dread that something very expensive will go wrong with it. And I miss the power of petrol. The diesel takes off strongly from the lights and for towing, but when you want to overtake a truck, then the petrol just kicks back a gear and goes for it. The diesel is already at it's best torque so any more revs doesn't seem to speed it up much quicker. And as you said, in sand you need the revs to get out. Also It's so damn complicated and hard to work on compared to a straight six Barra motor.
Diesel is definitely more expensive to maintain but the torque on them is absolutely amazing especially on the new 3.2L diesels.
The pro and cons can get more complex. Built-in supplementary tanks (with pump) available for diesel cars, not legal for petrol (afaik, at least in the US). Jerry cans more risky with petrol than diesel. When fording, higher pressure in diesel engines more likely to keep water out (or so they say). But yes, as Jeremy Clarkson once said: "the universal answer to all questions of motorisation is a 5-litre V8 petrol engine" 🙂.
what a video, no bullshit just straight to the point!!!!
👍🏼👍🏼 point is difficult to get good quality diesel…
simple to the point
Thank you so much Really helped
Last time i was in SA, petrol much cheaper than diesel, so even with my fortuner V6, i was spending less than diesels. also, you need to take into consideration how far a fill up takes you into the bush. I dont go far into the bush, so petrol is best.
Thanks.
Very on point explanation... Ill go for More power.... Petrol
I'm going back to petrol as well. Have owned modern diesel engines for the longest time....things that could fail in diesel engines = dpf, adblue system. Things that I do not want to worry about when touring.
For camping and the car is full loaded with water, food and equipment. Is petrol good for it or diesel?
is there any longevity basis around which will last longer and be more reliable or is that more to do with product/model. ie the same model of truck, but in a diesel and petrol counterpart, which of the 2 is going to last longer and have less problems
i would say petrol
Petrol most definitely. Diesel engines are very prone to Murphy’s Law unless you’re on top of regular service.
Petrol ❤
whats wrong with your theeth?
