I started with Super Junior with a little Ukiss and SS501 here and there. Then I transitioned into 2PM and BigBang. Once they started to put out less songs I got into Got7 all the while keeping tabs on SuJu. I had a few years break from Kpop when BTS was at their peak. Once Stray Kids showed up, I was hooked unto them. And here I am, still listening to SKZ!!

The journey of how Stray Kids went from No. 10 in 2018 with My Pace (09:38), No. 5 in 2019 with Miroh (11:23) to No. 6 and No. 5 with Back Door and God's Menu respectively in 2020 (12:28) only after BTS, No. 3 with Thunderous in 2021 (13:56) only after BTS again, and No. 2 with Maniac in 2022 (15:14) was AMAZING! I'm very proud of BTS they remain above and beyond irreplaceable forever in everyone's hearts, everyone knows that BTS really inspires various groups from teenagers to adults. They are very talented and always give positive energy everywhere.
Please speak your opinions only, don't make it into everyones, since it isn't. The group different from others is Bigbang, the legends that changed the industry and created so many things next generations straight out shamelessly just copied, the band that paved the way and made k-pop into what it is today. The band that inspired the beloved BTS. If you don't know it, you don't know k-pop. I don't say that to hurt or belittle you or them, or any fans of any groups, art is subjective. I just hope you would really understand the history of the music you admire. Bigbang became internationally known and won international awards without any western promotion, before social media time, bc of their art only, not bc of their PR team and marketing strategy. They never aimed to international market, it all just happened. Their Made tour was biggest tour ever by Korean band, untill they went to military. G Dragon's solo tour is still the biggest solo tour ever by any Korean solo artist. They debyted 2006. Before Bigbang k-pop idols didn't compose their own music. G Dragon started it. Bc of Bigbang bands started to change, before they were groups where all singers sounded the same, but Bigbang came with consept of 5 totally different members, easily recognizable, all strong enough to have solo career also, and they all did, while keeping their band still active. They were the first to do that, before them, members got solos only after bands had disbanded, if ever. They came with the consept of rappers in bands, one with a low tone voice and one with higher tone. There were no lightsticks to bands before Bigbang wanted to be able to tell their fans separate from the crowds and G Dragon designed their own lightstick to VIP's (their fandom). Now every band has one, bc they copied his idea. G Dragon was the first to dye his hair for every come back, and other groups copied. The list goes on and on. Their consept as a whole was so different from anything before, they set the new normal, that you now know as k-pop. Don't forget who created that all or give people credit for ideas they stole. Airport fashion consept is from G Dragon, and he decides and designs his own clothes. But the way he became a trendsetter and got the interest of fashion brands that had never before looked into Korea, or to any Asian, are a different story. He has whole another career in fashion. And he has broken so many class ceilings doing things as the first Asian ever or youngest ever, or first Korean ever. And people started to look to the East differently. You could've never before thought of US people singing songs in Korean at conserts, but now they did and do. But to me Bigbang is the different rule breaking band that I love, while rest of the k-groups look all very similar to me, their consepts are so similar, their videos look similar. Yeah, they're talented in singing, they dance greatly and they all look like expensive products. It's all too perfect to feel humane. They sing songs that rarely sound personal to them, and make the biggest mistake any artist of any genre can make: they try to sound and look pretty all the time instead of looking real and even ugly, sounding genuine, flawed and raw like true artists do, the ones that give themselves to the audience, as flawed and ugly as they are and who therefor feel human and truly can touch you. Like Loser by Bigbang, where they all wrote their own parts. Or the cheery sounding rock-pop song Sober that sounds so happy and fun untill you read the lyrics and understand it's about addictions and pain. Real life problems of real life people, without sugar coating. Family friendly consepts aren't for me, wether it's a party anthem or a love song, I don't like love songs that sound like they were written by a ten year old girl, unless she's the one that sings her story. But sang by a 20-30 years old man? yeah I know they sell a fantasy, but adult men don't fantasize same things 10 year old girls do and break ups are rarely pretty. In the end it comes across so fake, although the 10 year old girl can't tell the difference. That's sad, since idol's sounding and looking like factory made products was the unwritten rule Bigbang manage to break and suddenly idols were taken seriously and seen as musicians, since BB never sings AR, but now K-pop is going back in that perfect lipsync product consept again, where image is more important than the art. Although I guess others never really broke free, they just stole ideas from the ones that did. So, I still listen to Bigbang and only listen to solos of other artists. They're more unique and true to their artists than group songs in general.

Though I don't find the need for you to write a whole thesis on how big bang is "better" (?) than other groups and how all groups nowadays are unoriginal... well ik that bigbang did shaped the kpop we have today but than in that case speaking as an army bts started the kpop trend around the globe (they even spoke in UNICHEF) but none of them really "paved" the way, also what about groups like Super Junior, Wonder Girls, 2ne1, SHINee, Exo, B.A.P, Beast etc didn't they gave a huge contribution?. K-pop is a music industry no single group can "pave the way"..In the end you started disrespecting love songs sound like 10 years old girls wrote them and only 10 years old girls supports bts (or any other group). Bts also have various songs which addresses problems faced by people (mainly youths) and the toxic rules of the society and I am sure many others are also out there. In the end I would like to say that it is normal for groups to get inspired but every group is a separate entity which has it's own uniqueness and charm to it and every group contributes in the growth of k-pop.

What is "better" is an opinion, that's the subjective side of art and something to share opinions of, but not something to fight about or to think there's a right opinion. You don't have to like someone or something as that being to your taste at all, and you can still respect things they are good at. Like I can see and hear how good singers and dancers there are in Korean music scene in bands that I am still not a fan of. And I can understand that those who love synchronized dancing, band as individual and organic as BB may not be their favorite. Some hate GD because he smokes publically, I love him for that bc he's not painting picture of himself being perfect and flawless, but just a human like you and me, without beauty filters. My comment was not about BTS vs BB, it was comment about things that "remain above and beyond irreplaceable forever" in someone's heart and in history, and that not being same group for everyone. And my explanations why it's what it is for me and why there's so huge fandom to BB after everything, so many people who waited for years and years. There's very rarely that kind of loyalty in music business, where usually bands come and go fast, without anyone paying attention, cause they grew over it already. What comes to things BB was first or biggest at, they are just facts and I do wanna share them to those who don't know, but are into k-pop. You can listen to music without understanding a word and not caring, or you can understand where it came from, how and why. The point is not are they better, you can still be an army, but yet understand BTS members look up to GD as his fanboys and even the CEO of Hybe said he felt like Saliari listening to Mozart when he heard GD's songs. Of course there's also history before BB and bands that exist at the same time. There wouldn't be Bigbang without Seo Taiji. But bands like TVXQ, Exo, SHINee etc.. of course they had their careers that were succesful. And if you're a fan, be a fan and enjoy their music, it's not wrong and I have nothing against any band. The fact still remains, that they didn't compose their own music. The things that I say BB being best of the best at, truly, like that there aren't people with stage charisma like GD's born even in every generation, and I don't speak k-pop generations but actual generations of the whole world, those are my opinions and I can share them to explain what makes them so special to me. But him being so special doesn't mean other's would be bad. And it's not only me and my opinion. There's for example TikTok account of a man that works for Korean government, his job being to share and educate US people about Korean culture, and he explained why Bigbangs new comeback song is such a huge thing in Korea, different from other bands. Why are they so highly respected, even tho no one is claiming BTS wouldn't be really successful. I know BTS has made songs about important issues. Important subject, greatly performed, pretty words, beautiful video. Personally, still it doesn't touch me similarly, bc it feels fake. Agust D's raps don't feel fake, but important songs about important issues cause it's important to talk about them.. to me that's more politics than anything real. To me "I'm dirty trash in a mirror" still captures better how it actually is like to be depressed and seeing yourself not only worthless, but worse. As something world would be better without. And that's how you know it's written by someone who knows truly that feeling and lives with it. Like I do too. You don't have to agree. I know dragic story lines of some BTS songs that were a story from a book or something, probably great story and all but it's not their story. They didn't live it, they didn't write it bc it's their life, that's why it feels just more like a good marketing strategy to make deep songs and happy songs and they are the actors of it all. A story from the book performed by someone whose public image is unnaturally flawless is worlds away from a suicidal person writing lyrics in a hotel room. Being nothing but "a sad clown" existing for other's entertainment, "tamed, and scripted". It's not that BTS didn't know those felings as well or that they wouldn't be just humans as well. And they are scripted as well, like every k-pop group is. The difference is saying it aloud. I hope you understand my point about humanity and realness in picture perfect k-pop world. Picture perfect things don't make me happy. They make me painfully aware how dofferent the reality of the backstages are from what we see. It makes me anxious. Thank you, if you read this all.

Honestly speaking I don't really know much about BB though I really respect them for not appearing flawless and that gives many people the chance to actually relate to their idols and know that they are not alone . Many K-pop group these days do not compose their own music and its true (excluding BTS though). I agree with you that how almost every group hide the struggles faced by them and hiding it under their perfect personality. It really breaks my heart as many times BTS has collasped under the pressure of acting perfect and not really saying it out loud and continuing their picture-perfect identity in the fear of armys leaving them. However they have tried to convey their own personal stories by writing and composing their own songs (and many other ways too) based on their struggles. @@biscuits._.7036 I really thought about things you wrote, and there's clear difference in how we see things that are fact based, but seen from different perspectives. To me it wasn't BTS that started the k-pop trend around the globe, and that is the misunderstanding that I would so much want to change. From my perspective Bigbang started it and since it started, it has just grown bigger and bigger. BTS made it more mainstream. There were groups performing globally before Bigbang, but not full world stadium tours. GD alone does full sold out world stadium tours. I live in Finland at the moment (in northern Europe), and I asked from few adult Finns do they know Bigbang. They didn't by name. I played few of their most known songs, and they regocnized some of them, but had never realized they were in Korean. It's not a large study, I asked 5 people, but it still shows Bigbang was playing in radios in Finland years ago. I didn't live in here back then, so I had to ask. It played repeteadly enough to be still remembered by people who didn't even know it wasn't in English. Western media didn't pay much attention to who are they, but they didn't to BTS either. Then people suddenly started asking who are these guys and why no one has ever heard of them before, although they're on an award show. There were a lot of those "no ones" who had heard of BTS (just like there are those who had heard about Bigbang too, even if you hadn't) before k-pop became mainstream in western world. I know fans don't mean to be disrespectful when stating things like that, it's just that they don't know. That's also why I want to tell. Bigbang won Britney Spears in an award show for Best world wide life performance years before that, and had stadiums full of people in sold out conserts world wide. Their Made tour lasted for a year, it was craziness Korea had never seen, and yes it was global. Tickets sold out so quickly so many people were so angry they had to add extra conserts to US at least, I don't remember where else. I do feel hurt and that their work is disrespected when new fans just someohow do not count it at all, stating BTS is the first internationally known group from Korea. New fans don't know Bigbang, bc they have pretty much made their best to avoid publicity for latest years. One lost member, huge scandals, suicide attempt and one member becoming dad. They had enough to deal with. Their "comeback song" wasn't really a comeback, it's very clearly devoded to VIPs who waited on the Flower road and BB came back to us like they promised. The song has made well, when you think that the only promotion done for it was 6 photos beforehand. No interviews, nothing. They didn't need to announce they're releasing new music to get people's attention. People were asking when will they, constantly. I've been fan of G Dragon's since I was 4. From my perspective statement about BTS starting the k-pop wave feels weird and wrong. GD's Motte tour is the biggest solo tour of Korean solo artist, and it was 2017. Doesn't that count either? Why not? I don't get it. We don't have to agree about it tho. It was nice to write with you. Have a happy summer!

I agree with u 100%. I grew up listening to western R&B rap, hip hop music. Heard of K-pop when it first came out, but wasn’t big on it. Fortunately, fate led me to Straykids “God’s Menu” a month ago. I will say, they are definitely talented and unique.

Their both Jikjin and (especially) darari got too many popularity in the last comeback. Also their dance/vocal/rap covers in Jikjin man, Weekly idol made them more popular too(for example as i remember Mashiho get appreciation from NCTzens, due to his dancing moves)

It is true that they exist in a simple way, but I feel somewhat disappointed. I do not understand the lack of attention of everyone to them. They have better strength even than the big companies. The dance, strength and performance, competes with all those companies of high quality. Even the strength and smoothness of their dance competes with StryKids impressively just because they are from a major company. We have to follow them, I speak frankly, I do not find magic in their performance, unlike ATEEZ, they have abilities beyond the stage.

C nota el nivel de BTS . Están muy por encima d las demas agrupaciones. La melodía. La letra d las canciones .los videos .la ropa adecuada para cada video .la propia esencia de los chicos q sobrepasa la pantalla . c siente una vibra muy diferente al resto de canciones q la mayoría suenan igual y es pura estética . No me trasmiten lo mismo . Es difícil d explicar

BTS siempre logra sorprenderme esperaba ver videos de ellos a partir del 2016 pero tuvieron videos en el top desde que debutaron y a partir del 2015 tosos sus videos con mas vistas estaban en los primeros lugares realmente son extraordinarios nadie como ellos talento, belleza, carisma, personalidad, humildad y la forma como conectan con sus fans como ninguno los estaremos esperando los amo.
