How to Build a Modern 5 Drawer Dresser
Watch me build this gorgeous modern 5 drawer dresser! I built this dresser to match the bed and nightstands I build a couple years ago. I never completed the set with the DIY dresser, so I decided now was a good time to build it.
This dresser was made from rough sawn poplar and has a clean line and simple modern feel. It was assembled with easy pocket hole and dowel joinery.

Lots of character in your drawer fronts! -And you're so right, it's not written in stone how to assemble pieces! Really nice job!
i am an international consultant designer of furnitures ,im impressed with your skills
Hello sister, how are you, I'm here from Brazil, I love your work, thank you very much for the knowledge you share with us, success for you.
Found you on tiktok and this is 100% a dresser I want to build for my kiddos. This is awesome!
Awesome! Thanks for finding me over on KZhead, too! Happy building!
Love you're videos and your creativity
Never seen unpainted poplar look so good. Love the design.
I love poplar. I think the variation in color is really pretty 😍 thank you!
Shara Woodshop Diaries I do too but not as much as I used to. Went through a rainbow poplar obsession phase for about a year. Just long enough to see all those purples, deep greens and reds turn to a muted brown, walnut hue. How long did you have to leave the piece in the sun to get it like that?
nkabui8wnabnd8099999 it was about two hours maybe? Not long
Shara Woodshop Diaries thanks. Got some poplar in my scrap bin. Will try it today.
You have to be the most beautiful young Lady carpenter. May God Almighty continue to bless you with the talent keep up the great work.👃🌹
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
Love it We dig it!
Totally awesome.
Thank you!
Ice pops and rain boots, my kinda channel. Nice project.
Keeping it classy 😂😂 thanks so much!
That dresser turned out really nice. Great job
Thanks so much!
@@WoodshopDiaries No, thank you for sharing your knowledge and abilities. You have a fantastic craftsmanship Shara!
This is so awesome!
Thank you!
lovely chest of drawers and i agree with your philosophy, if you're happy with it and suits, doesn't matter how it's made, it's perfect for you and that's all that matters!
Great job looks nice
Thank you 👍
Impressive , you make it look so easy unlike so many others of the elite woodworkers that are so full of themsevles that I have to mute many ...not you tho. The rubber boots are a first and really not a bad way to go especially for messy glue and stain ect. appliers' like myself. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks so much! That’s so great to hear. I always strive to keep things as simple as possible. I appreciate you watching and your kind words!
Great job here. A lot of diy dressers are waaaaay beyond my scope. The most intricate of Japanese joints lol. This is right up my alley. Thanks for the content.
Thank you! My goal is to keep things nice...but doable 😉
I genuinely envy your workshop.
This MSU Alum appreciates your representing the Racer Nation! Great build too!!
So cool! Go racers!
so amazing. i very like it. thanks so much
Thank you 👍
amazing project
Looks awesome. I like the fact that you kept it so simple
Thank you! I always try to keep it as simple as possible!
Great job Queen of boots! The grain of the wood looks so nice. And I love the idea of the floating top, it may be just a detail but as said Charles Eames, "the details are not the details, they make the design."
Queen of boots 😂😂 I love that. Thanks so much! I like subtle details...nothing too fancy 😍
As a child of the 70s. I can appreciate the bell bottoms.
That came out really clean and the front grain has a smooth look to it.
Thanks so much! I love working with poplar (that’s my “unpoplar” opinion) 😂
nice touch with the reveal you made with the router, keep up the beautiful work...
Thank you so much!
Fantastic job they all look great. One idea that has helped with draw spacing keep a deck of cards handy they are great.
Thank you! I’ve heard of the card trick...I’ve just never used it. Maybe one day I’ll give it a try 👍
I just finished building the King size bed and 2 nights stands but I had to change the dimensions. Starting on the dresser next. My wife loves the set so far.
That’s awesome to hear! Those are all some of my favorite builds!
Nice touch on rabbeting the top. That dresser sure looks great.
Thanks so much! Such a subtle detail 😎
Loved how the colors matched perfectly! Nice lookin front faced drawers.
The rain boots and shorts combo is awesome 😉
😂😂 high class for sure
That’s really sexist. I’ve watched 1000s of male woodworkers and never once seen a comment on someone’s clothing.
It’s so pretty, Shara!
You are awesome and beautiful keep up the good work
I love this design. The whole line has been great!
Thanks so much!
Hello! The little 4 year old I nanny *loves* your videos! It’s precious-he’ll grab his toy tools and pretend to do the work along with you. He wanted to know if you were a teacher?
Aww that is so sweet! That makes my day! I’m not a teacher, but I create content that hopefully teaches people a little here and there 😊
Beautiful, beautiful, just gorgeous!
Thank you!
Interesting idea to keep distance when mounting drawers.
Ma'am about that top on your dresser the dresser is your design If you say glue it on then gluing the top is the correct way to attach top Btw I really like your build it's not too flashy but doesn't have the average run of the mill industrial look either Thank you for sharing this build with us
Thank you so much!! I appreciate your kind words!
Another great build. I love the wood grains. That’s a beautiful piece. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks so much for watching!
I like how you made the top look separate. I think I’ll try it. Love the rain boots!
Thanks so much! Tiny details have big impacts 😄
This looks great. I'll have to go check out the bed and nightstands.
Thanks so much. I really love this set. So simple
Turned out great Shara, looks awesome! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks so much!
I love this build! Fantastic job! I like the floating top look too! You're getting better and better every build.
Thanks so much! It’s such a simple little detail but it’s so worth adding.
Absolutely beautiful!! Great job and keep up the good work! I never thought of using poplar before but it came out really nice. Dana Point, California
Thanks so much! Yeah poplar isn’t very popular 😂 but I really like it’s coloring and character
CarpenterHER, I love it! Bedroom set looks great. Kudos!
Thanks so much!
Walrus Oil is a new one for me. It made the dresser grain pop! Nice job on the project. I’m definitely going to buy some of your plans.
Awesome. Beautiful simple design. Love the poplar.
Thanks so much!
Awesome work as always! Enjoy seeing what your come up with
Thanks so much!
Great video, explaining what you did and why. I built a 6 drawer chest out of fir with a purpleheart top that looks good but wish I had this video to go by so I would have made fewer mistakes. Really love that rabbit on top, beautiful. Thanks
Thanks so much! I made plenty of mistakes on this...we all do. That’s part of the process 😉😅
New subscriber...watched the video for the build and your smile...stayed for the 🌧 🥾 !🤣
Haha thanks! You’ll definitely see the rain boots again 😂 they make an appearance in about every video 🙈
@@WoodshopDiaries My joy meter is on the rise ma'am 😁😁
You are such a genius Shara!! It’s really nice!
Thanks so much!
Nice build. Looks very, very nice
Love this! Going to give it a try
You are very talented, Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching!
I love watching your videos. I can take your designs and change the joinery (sometimes) and add my details, and they always come out looking awesome. You are a great inspiration, and you are so danged funny. You get it, and you have nailed your brand. Great work!
Ha! Thanks so much! Glad to have you following along 😄
Fantastic, they look so clean 👌 Luv your work, ty for sharing

This is fantastic. Really enjoy your builds. Also, I believe that rain boots and ice pops are needed accessories in wood working! :) Stay well. Looking forward to the next project. :)

Thanks so much! I’m not sure I’ll ever “take off” but I’ll give it a shot anyway haha
Nice! Built a similar piece about 20 years ago.
Thanks so much!
Beautiful work! I recently built a jewellery box out of cedar that looks like a mini version of this.
That's really cool! I love cedar!
São lindos os seus trabalhos! Parabéns!!!
You're so kind. Thank you!
I m also a DIY . Just Love your work and attitude. Definitely admirably inspirational. I LL also build one for my niece. Thanks for the idea. Have a great day
Thanks so much 😊
Turned out really good. I'm in the middle of building my niece a hope chest for her graduation 🎓 present. Keep up the great videos
Awesome! I’m sure she will love it!
Nice job, and very nice project!
Thank you!
That is way nice Shara, you look great in the boots---
Thanks so much! I’m trying to keep it classy 😂😂
@@WoodshopDiaries Not everyone could pull off the Gucci rain boot look but you sure can. Thanks for fun and informative videos. I love them all.
pt eddie haha not Gucci....tractor supply $9 special 😂😂
I had no idea that greenish polar would brown in the sunlight - great tip! Also, I always thought blue sweats and rain boots was the uniform if Shara's Woodshop :-)
It works pretty quick actually. Doesn’t need a whole lot of time to “bake.” And I like to keep things classy with sweats and rain boots 😂😎
Wow very nice love it
Thank you!
Looks awesome .. great finish:)
Thanks so much!
Awesome stuff💯🎯
That is really a nice build.
Thanks so much!
Another great video! Too great! JK! My daughter keeps me busy loving your work. I already built the night stand and bed and even a matching writing desk based on the style of the nightstand. Keep up the great work! One of my fav channels.
I appreciate that! Thank you so much! I never thought of a matching style desk. I bet it’s beautiful!

What a great piece, Shara! I enjoy your talk over-explanation. So where did you learn your craft? It looks like you are skilled in your tools and you know the artistic side as well. Great Job. Thanks for sharing. Felix
Hi! Thanks so much! I’m self taught. Lots of trial and error (mostly error haha) just figuring things out.
Perfect .
Thanks so much!
Very nice
